Everand has slowly ruined what was once an incredible reading platform (Scribd) with a greed that is heartbreaking by comparison, and I have canceled, (which also loses me access to all my already unlocked titles!!) There are very few free titles left that you can read if you are an avid listener without unlocking them first. This means that the app is not much different than Audible anymore, but with far less availability. You also LOSE your credits if you don't use it within a month! Avoid.
Reviews for Everand: Audiobooks & Ebooks
← Back to Everand: Audiobooks & EbooksDeserves 0 stars. Their marketing has done very well at concealing that in order to listen to anything you've paid for and unlocked you have to have a CURRENT subscription. Yes they are cheaper than audible but at least audible lets you keep and listen to what you paid for. Not to mention the UI is horrid everything is dumped in the same place there's no clear location for the things you've unlocked and others you've "wish listed". I am absolutely LIVID and DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Honestly, I used to love this app. The rebranding and such wasn't bad and didn't come with anything negative, so my enjoyment of the app remained the same. I ended up canceling my subscription for a long while due to financial issues and then tonight I decided to give it another go. The new subscription system, now being like audible, but a lot worse is annoying. The massive book list I could once listen to for the single sub fee, now require unlocks per book (like audible credits). Smh.
So disappointed. I was looking for an alternative to KU but this feels like a scam. Extremely difficult to navigate. I spent nearly 30 mins trying to filter out the "Unlimited" titles included in my membership and literally could not find them. This service literally wants you to pay 11.99 per month for a single unlocked title and then pay for each individual title you want to read. I'm so sick of these services nickle and diming us so much. It's exhausting.
It seems like a great app if you are a reader and not a listener. As a housekeeper, I listen to audiobooks most days while I work, which is, on average, 2-3 books a week. So, only being able to unlock 3 titles a month is just not enough for me. I would consider this app again if there were more titles available for free or even to purchase after I used my unlocks.
I finally gave up on this app after taking a break due to repeated technical issues and giving it another chance. The issues that have been going on for years have not been fixed and have just gotten worse- the app stops constantly which is a huge pain while driving as you have to keep pressing the play button when it stops playing. At first it would mostly only stop playing when I was driving but not it does so all the time and you HAVE to be online to even play a book now. TERRIBLE app!!
the most I can say for this app is that it has a lot of the titles I'm looking for. otherwise, it is just way too expensive for what it offers. I tried to use this as an alternative to kindle and audible, but I'm planning on just using libby from now on - I'd rather have long hold times than pay $12 a month for one book that isn't even mine to keep. I wish everand would listen to its users and go back to their old model, but until they do, I'm not wasting $12 on this anymore.
This app changed so much. It used to have a $12.99 subscription for unlimited audiobooks. Now they have LOCKED books and you only get 1 unlock for $11.99 and 3 unlocks for $16.99. And their "unlimited" selection SUCKS! AND you only get 1 UNLOCK in the "free trial" which isn't much of a free trial. They need to fix this in a way to make actual Unlimited titles as before with the latter pricing or something or else they'll lose subscribers. It's become very annoying . Waste of money.
too expensive to not work. I pay for books, and have them downloaded and saved and everything, but the app does not work offline. I paid for the book, I should be able to read in whenever I want- in airplane mode, in the woods camping, or wherever. asking for help and troubleshooting sucks. I was so hopeful to get rid of the other main competitor app that rhymes with spindle but I guess I can't.
I’ve subscribed to Everand for years. The selection was always extensive, even if I couldn’t find the newest books. Recently, they switched to a tiered model where “premium” titles require higher subscriptions. The problem is the lowest tier now costs the same as the one with no unlocks. I’ve tried upgrading, but keep getting errors, and support hasn’t been able to help. At this point, it’s more frustrating than useful.
If I could go lower I would. With their new upgrade and their premium it cost a lot more and you only get three premium books per month for the amount of that is not a good deal. You need to get at least 10 premium books a month for price that expensive. This app was a lot better when it was just scribs. And all the books premium or not were included in your paid subscription.
If you haven't switched over to the new plan DON'T DO IT!!! They claim any titles you have listened to already and/or saved will be available, but that isn't true. Atleast 95% of the books (atleast 20) I had saved, now have to be unlocked. Only a fraction of the ones "in progess" are also available. If I continue to use the app, I'm forced to get the unlimited plan. Customer support isnt helpful. I'm definitely looking at other options.
This used to be amazing. Then they changed their subscription model. It used to be $9.99/month for access to the whole catalog. Now it's $11.99/month for access to a very limited catalog and 1 unlock. Or $16.99/month for the catalog and 3 unlocks. The unlocks do not roll over month to month. You use the unlocks to gain access to premium titles which are then available to you as long as your subscription is active. And I can guarantee every book you want to read/listen to is locked.
I really love this app! You pay a monthly subscription and then get access to there entire library free. There are tons of ebooks and audiobooks, really popular stuff too. Indie and traditionaly published acrossed all genres and age ranges. Highly recommend (7/26/24) They updated it and you only get some of their catalog with your subscription others you have to unlock. you don't get to keep the titles you unlock. if you cancel your subscription ends immediately.(3/25/25)
It's EXTREMELY hard to find any of the "unlimited access" items. Everything I found/was recommended, aside from classics I get unlimited on Libby, needs an unlock. You shouldn't be advertising the unlimited catalog if this content isn't easily searchable and Clearly displayed in app. It also wasn't clear to me before I paid how little would be available bc of how things are shown. $12/month for 1 book I can't even access once I cancel is a lousy model. I regret spending the money to resub
I just got this as a free trial to see if I could find an audible replacement. The playback for this app is awful. It will switch from the 1.2x I have selected to 1x speed all on its own. If your book isn't downloaded, it freezes all the time. You also don't get to keep the books you've unlocked if you ever cancel your membership. Your unlocks also don't roll over from month to month. That makes no sense. They've already been paid for.
This review is coming from a ebook reader. I have tried audiobooks but I just can't like them. My biggest issue with the app is the selection of ebooks. I try to go for books that aren't on KU. So if you have KU I don't think its worth it. If you listen to audiobooks then I think it has a lot of great options for you. I subscribed to Everand for the free unlocks every month to try books I normally wouldn't get to.
I thought this was gonna be a better route than audio. Come to find out that after you read an "X" amount of books, you are cut off until the next month. You are only allowed like 8 audio books, maybe more, not sure cause one day you wake up and then poof, all your selected books are not available until your next month payment. They should be clearly marked some way. That way you know what titles to pick over others. My whole library of saved books is unavailable... for the next 3 weeks.
I did the free trial on this app because I found it was more affordable than audible. (I got 3 unlocks for the price of 1 in audible). The audio options were good, and I easily chose my 3 books to listen to. I like the app for the most part. However, for the kind of genre I liked listening too they didn't have a lot of unlimited options. Also, using the app to look for unlimited options was confusing to me personally and like I mentioned before the list was very limited to what I liked.
I was disappointed with audible pricing and saw social media posts about Everand and how you pay for a monthly membership and had access to the entire catalog but now that I'm in the free trial i'm disappointed that that is not the case and they are now following in audibles footsteps. I'll be sticking to my library app that offers books for free. I've also found that this app buffers and stops a lot until I unlock my phone and click back on the screen or jumps forward/back.
