Been using eXtratool for BMW and ELM327 for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you diagnose your BMW vehicle, whether you’re a mechanic or just a car enthusiast. Pretty solid app if you’re into BMWs and want to save some money on servicing.

Here’s what you can do: you can read and decode all the error codes in your car’s computer system, even the hidden ones. There’s also the ability to turn off certain systems like the all-wheel drive and the valve control, which is pretty cool. And you can check the temperature history of your transmission – took me a while to figure that out but it’s useful.

Look, if you own a BMW F or G-series car, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the setup can be a bit tricky if you’re not tech-savvy – but overall it does the job of a pro-level diagnostic tool. Worth checking out if you want to DIY some maintenance and repairs.

So here's my take on eXtratool for BMW and ELM327. I've tested a bunch of car diagnostic apps and this one's pretty solid. The level of detail and access you get is impressive, way beyond what the dealer's own ISTA app brings. I like that you can dig into all the nitty-gritty systems and codes. That said, the learning curve is a bit steeper than some other apps. And while it's great for DIY, it's not the most user-friendly if you just want a quick check-up. Overall though, if you're a BMW nut and want to go deeper under the hood, eXtratool is worth checking out.
