Reviews for Falling Fruit

It would be excellent if one thing were changed: when searching, you can't choose to return a range of results but must select a specific entry. For instance, if I want to find apple trees, I can't have it show me all apple trees together but must select from the 150+ varieties and display them one at a time.

The app is definitely more mobile-friendly than the website, selecting makers is much easier! The app is very basic, though, and would be a lot better with some additional features. It'd be great if we could mark favorite locations and if we could filter locations by most recently updated.

Excellent work it's a good start I'll be adding locations as I find them. I can't seem to get focus in the tell us more section below. I know this is a first release one of the features I'd like to see is being able to add more than one picture at a time. And I'd like to be able to select the picture I've already taken. Instead of just being able to take a new picture with the camera. Excellent work keep going.

I would really love to see this app updated and improved. I think that it has a lot of potential and like someone said below, if there was a Patreon/GoFundMe set up to help attract more developers and resources to support the app, I would be behind it. You could even try to download data (i.e. verified or research grade edible tree gps locations and species) from iNaturalist. Please, please update.

Wouldn't recommend spending money on this app. It's unusable. There are numbers of trees in the area but when you zoom in the numbers and pins disappear. Apparently there are only two fruit trees in the entirety of Wheaton. That's not only completely inaccurate but even with the app I can't figure out which two trees they are talking about. Maybe if more people were tagging the trees it would be better. Right now it sucks though.

Neat concept but for $5 this is missing some incredibly basic functionality, like pinpointing a location on the map through the list view. Instead I have to find what I want on the list view then go through EVERY unlabeled dot on the map to see where the specific entry is located. And if it's going to scrape data from iNatrualist with a URL it could at least make URLs clickable.

This is an incredible resource! However, there are some features I believe the app should consider adding: -Ability to delete/edit a pin you put up. I was out walking and it was hard to see my screen in the sun, so a pin I added was put in the wrong spot on the map. -I would love to be able to favorite pins. -I would love to have the map visible as I look at a pins details. -A feedback or reporting section within app so I don't have to use the reviews.

An app I want to love more but that is missing basic functionality, like labels in the map view (which ironically the free online version has) and a way to view an item from the list view on the map view. I hope my buying of the app can help support the developers in implementing these features so others will have a better time. As it stands now, it's hard to recommend a purchase.

Great idea, Needs updating. Several missing features are mentioned in most reviews. But to add to those, app is also missing filters of all kinds. Would be nice to filter by recent (lots of trees/plants no longer exist due to development in the area, etc), by fruit type, by in season, etc. What's the use in sifting through tons of entries from 2012 for fruit trees that, even if they did exist, would not have fruit for 5 months.

pretty neat idea, good looks and design (very similar to I naturalist) I would recommend adding a filter for only public property for the less sociable of us. and a search feature from the map/list view would be nice, rather than in the filter screen.

It won't allow me to edit my previous review, which is a Google play issue. After their response of server issues, the app is great! I found some trees in my area and even placed a marker for a black walnut tree in a nearby park. Mobile friendly, easy to use, and has a simple design. Thank you for the response, Falling Fruit Team!

Could have been so much better. It's so frustrating and time wasting using this app. Its the first app I've paid for because I thought it might be worth it but its not. All the markers are the same colour and unlabelled until you click into it so if I know I'm looking for apples there's no chance of finding it easily. Also there's no opportunity for me to save something for later so if it took me forever to finally locate something on the map, I will not remember which one it is for next time

I love this app! I've added quite a few locations I've found free produce at 😁 I hope this app still gets updated and reviewed though, as it needs more options when adding locations; Such as choosing a photo you already have and being more interactive. Even the option for updating photos as you find the produce! This is a game changing app, so thank you so much! It brings the excitement back to hunt for free food and getting out and about to explore!

Suggestion for the developers: When adding a new marker, you currently have to select the species and genus of the tree. Most people aren't going to know which of the 6 different types of Fig trees (or which of the 4 different cultivars of Loquat) they've found. For this scenario, there should be a 'Fig - unknown type' (or 'Loquat - generic') option. Otherwise, app works great. Deserves a higher rating.

This is an awesome tool for sharing information on local urban foraging! There are certainly areas for improvement, but for the price it's a great service. I would love the option of adding favorites, or a way to refer back to where I've visited. I would also like an option to delete/retire locations that are no longer available (for example, there's a ton of entries for a local grocery chain that closed years ago, and as far as I can tell there's not a way to get them removed).

I like the service so I got the app. The app is worse than the online version. so many things are not there. I can't even give feedback on the app. Imagine I want to find an apple tree, there are like 50 kinds listed and I can only select one so the 10 apple trees near me don't show up. I also can't favorite certain places or yes so I can remember that they were good. I can't even find my own reviews in the app. Every entry needs to list the season when they are fruiting..most don't right now

5 stars in the niche that it fills and 3 stars in execution. Could learn many things from adopting practices from inaturualist. To be honest inaturualist is still a wild west of people just accepting top suggestions with 1 subpar photo. This app appears to have a more knowledgeable base which can in part be attributed to a much narrower focus. If this app could gather multiple photos (or any) per observation it'd reign supreme..... for edibles. You can't search for what you're interested in

The paid mobile app is worse than the free browser version. I'm in probably one of the best parts of the world for this thing, and I had to refund it. I downloaded in hopes of finding all the plum trees in the East Bay for a foraged jam-making event, but found the search far too specific (like, 10 cultivars of just the *European* plum, with no option to search a broader filter). Neither map nor list view has complete info, and they're impossible to cross-reference. I could go on...

Nice, though the functionality is lacking in some areas. For example, it should be possible to select an item in the list view and then see that specific item highlighted on the map. I love the idea as I've kept a private fruit map for years, though I think iNaturalist has far more content at the moment, despite not having an edible fruit focus.

I love the concept but the app could use a lot of work. Cannot upload images from gallery. You have to physically be in front of the wild edible to snap a picture of it to upload the image. There's isn't any sort of profile system. Would be nice to have profiles so people can have images and maybe a counter for now many spots they have uploaded. Would be a good incentive for people to start sharing more spots because it's pretty bare. Hope this app improves and doesn't become stagnant.
