I've tested a bunch of home design and measurement apps, and Floor Plan AR is one of the better ones I've found. The AR capabilities work surprisingly well, and I like how it automatically calculates all the room details. It's not as feature-rich as some paid apps, but for a free tool it really gets the job done. The only downsides are some accuracy issues with the AR and the reports could be clearer. But if you just need a simple way to map out your home, this is a pretty solid option.

Pros

  • Intuitive AR-based room mapping
  • Automatically calculates dimensions, areas, and volumes
  • Free to use with no ads or in-app purchases
  • Works surprisingly well for a free app
  • Great for visualizing home renovations

Cons

  • AR can be a bit finicky and not 100% accurate
  • Reports are basic and could be more detailed
  • Limited customization options compared to paid design apps
  • Might be overkill if you just need basic room measurements

Description

Been using Floor Plan Augmented Reality for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you measure and design your home in 3D using your phone’s camera. Pretty solid if you’re into home improvement and DIY stuff.

Here’s what you can do – you just point your camera at a room and it automatically creates a 3D model of the space. There’s also a feature to calculate dimensions, areas, and volumes. Real handy if you’re planning a renovation or just curious about the layout. Took me a while to figure out all the tools but it’s pretty intuitive once you play around with it.

Look, if you’re into home design and want an easy way to visualize changes, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the reports can be a bit confusing and the AR isn’t always super accurate. But overall it does a good job and it’s free to use.

Immediately hits you with a rush-sale pressure countdown saying "Better make your purchase NOW, price goes up x10 in 1 hour!" Which makes sense once you start using it. The...

Good, but only gives you an hour of use before having to pay for it
