So here's my take on Forvo Pronunciation Guide. I've tried out a bunch of language learning apps and this one is one of the more comprehensive ones I've seen. The ability to search for pronunciations in such a wide range of languages is really impressive. In my experience, the audio quality is clear and the native speaker recordings are legit. The only downside is the app can feel a bit outdated and the user experience has room for improvement. But if you're serious about improving your pronunciation, this is a great resource to have in your toolbox.

Pros

  • Huge database with pronunciations in over 400 languages
  • Recordings are by authentic native speakers, not text-to-speech
  • You can request new pronunciations if you don't find what you need
  • Covers both common and obscure languages
  • Free to use with no paywalls

Cons

  • The interface is a bit dated and could use a UI refresh
  • Searching for specific words can be hit or miss at times
  • Doesn't integrate with language learning apps or features
  • You have to manually request pronunciations you can't find

Description

I’ve been using Forvo Pronunciation Guide for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you listen to words pronounced by native speakers in tons of different languages. Pretty solid if you’re trying to improve your pronunciation or just curious about how words are said in other languages.

Here’s what you can do: You can search for specific words and listen to the pronunciations. And there’s also the ability to request pronunciations and even record your own. It’s got a huge database with over 7 million pronunciations across more than 400 languages – not just the major ones like English, Spanish and Chinese, but also more obscure ones.

Look, if you’re learning a new language or just love languages in general, you’ll probably get a lot of use out of this app. It’s not perfect – the interface can be a bit clunky at times – but overall it’s a really handy tool. Worth checking out if you want to expand your linguistic horizons.
