Description
Been using FreeTone for about 3 months now, and it’s basically a free calling and texting app that gives you a real US phone number. What makes it different is you don’t have to mess around with earning credits or paying for calls – it’s just straight up free for calling and texting anyone in the US or Canada. Pretty nice if you’re trying to save some cash on your phone bill.
You get your own phone number right off the bat, and the voicemail setup is super simple. Making calls is exactly like using your regular phone app – just dial and you’re good to go. Texting works pretty much the same way, and you can even send pictures. The call quality’s not bad either – I’ve had a few drops here and there, but nothing crazy.
Look, if you need a second phone line or just want to save money on calls, this is worth checking out. It’s definitely not perfect – you’ll need decent internet, and sometimes messages take a few extra seconds to send. But for something that’s completely free? Can’t really complain. I’ve tried a bunch of these apps and most of them try to nickel and dime you, so it’s refreshing to find one that’s actually free.
Editor Opinion
So here's my honest take after using FreeTone for a while. I've tested probably a dozen free calling apps, and most of them are pretty much garbage - they either flood you with ads or make you watch videos to earn minutes. FreeTone's different. Yeah, there are some ads, but they're not in your face every two seconds. The call quality's been surprisingly good over WiFi - like, I've had actual business calls on this thing and nobody knew I wasn't using a regular phone line. That said, it's not gonna replace your main phone number. The app can be a bit glitchy sometimes, and you definitely don't want to rely on it for emergency calls. But for a free second line? It's solid.

Cons

Zero stars if i could. What gets me is how is everybody getting away with putting their app is free when indeed it's not. Get rid of the false advertising...
Fair hustle. It can receive google voice verification codes, but won't show you them unless you pay $5. Also, while the ads were intrusive in terms of screen real estate,...
Better than Text Now etc... this free call and texting app is, in my opinion the better one that's free that I've had. There are ads after each voice call...
