Freshbooks, the invoice generator terrorists. I've been using Freshbooks for 8 years now. Lately I had problems uploading my logo to my invoices. I called support and they told me I was shutting down the program wrong. I used the "x" on the web browser instead of "logging out" to quit the program. Apparently, this generates errors in the program, and that was the reason I couldn't upload my logo. He tells me that he could get it fixed for $799.99. Wow! Bye.

← Back to FreshBooks Invoicing AppThis program is VERY GLITCHY. The biggest problem is when you tell them that it's glitchy, they tell you that it's not and that they don't plan to fix it. The easiest example is when you try to send an invoice, there is no "account balance" on the invoice. So if one client has two invoices outstanding, they can never know how much they owe. Clients are always confused, and you have to manually send emails to tell them what their account balances are. By that point, they haven't paid anyway, since people don't like to do a bunch of work to figure out how much they owe you. This definitely DOES NOT automate your billing experience.
This makes the paperwork that I don't like fun! And having the app on my phone means my schedule cannot be an excuse for not keeping up with the paperwork of billing and invoicing. the app works almost as well as the website on my desktop. Their customer service is unmatched for excellence. They really make sure you have what you need and are the definition of going the extra mile!
Mileage tracking is terrible. It was much better on the old version where you could manually turn it on to record a specific trip. I keep mine on at all times and it "sometimes" records. Makes it really annoying when you have to figure out which ones it missed. Also doesn't let you manually put in "round trip" like QuickBooks does. So I spend a lot of time editing my mileage tracking. if anyone knows of a better app to record business mileage, let me know.
I have been using FreshBooks for over 7 years in my business. It is easy to navigate, simple to imput data, not expensive for the accounting system. Once you insert all the info and connect with the expense accounts, it is easy to use. I run my reports, prepare TAX documents in seconds. Recommended this app to few of my friends over the years and everyone is satisfied. Plus there is a real person behind the phone, that actually picks it up if you need. Well done FreshBooks.
No option to bulk edit entries; whenever an edit or expense is categorized, the app refreshes and starts you back at the top. This is a HUGE oversite and massive time consumer. Imagine editing hundreds of entries and rescrolling through them every...single... time. You also can enter what the transaction is for (only on desktop), and there's also no way to view your current subscription or change it. Lazy programmers!!
I love Freshbooks. Whether it's the desktop version or the mobile app, it makes it so easy to run my business. I operate in retail so there's always invoices, expenses, and everything in between. Freshbooks allows me to handle all of that in real time without having to be hindered by a desktop. It's very user friendly. The best part is it integrates with Shopify and the dashboards talk to each other. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
It's a pretty easy program to understand. It's definitely in it's infancy. The mobile app is a stripped down version that you would have on your PC. For example on the phone: #1 can't select a specific date when drafting a invoice. #2 prices for an item do not update when you give it a new dollar amount. You ha e to create a new item. #3 You can't attach a picture of a signed invoice you have to do it on the computer. #4 There is no option for a client to digi sign on the phone.
It's just too overpriced compared to other options. I also was disappointed that when I canceled monthly subscription, I was instantaneously locked out of freshbooks despite being paid up til the end of the month. No access to my account info now. I will never do business with Freshbooks again. They don't understand customer service and their policies drive customers away.
The app is fine if you have really good internet, otherwise it's a frustratingly horrible experience, that makes me really consider if it's worth paying this much money, when I end up losing hours when the app won't load, or acts like it logs an entry and doesn't. There really needs to be an offline time clock functionality, it has to connect to the internet and seemingly download every invoice and client to be able to log a time.
FreshBooks as a platform is great. I've been using it for years... Since the beginning. Unfortunately the mobile app is not at all representative of the full featured offering via a browser. It freezes and crashes constantly. If you need to track your time on the go, better use another method and then input that time when you are in front of a computer/browser. Again, great platform, just poor execution on the mobile app. Time is currency.
Several things do not work on the app. I've never been able to save an expense. I have to do on a desktop. The mileage tracking worked for about 5 trips and no longer works. I'm getting calls all the time from a sales team because I'm still in my free trial period, I hate that. I've spoken to someone about the expense tracking but I doubt a resolution will be made before my trial. I checked multiple settings on my phone to figure out if I can get the app to track mileage. Looks correct. Bummed
Finally! A straightforward accounting app for a straightforward business. We provide a service, over and over, nothing super crazy or fancy, and we don't have a huge sales team. Our business is in the construction industry. We are currently two partners and one employee. Freshbooks is exactly what I was looking for...not convoluted, not inundated with ads for more services, with excellent invoicing and expense tracking on the go. It's just perfect for our small business.
Update: Been a few years since the update, all is back to awesome. Love Freshbooks! As others have said, serious downgrade from the classic version. I've made complaints via email and phone calls, all have been very helpful and courteous saying changes are on the way,,,,,,,but. I can't associate a bill with a client, time tracking entries are not labeled billed, unbilled or otherwise and I hate to search for time entries by day. The old version they were right there for quick reference. I hate not being able to generate, convert to pdf and attach an invoice to an email right from my phone. All very important stuff. I do 99% of my business from my phone and it is more important to me than the desktop version, I'm now switching back to the "classic" version, if Freshbooks doesn't get a handle on things I'll be moving to one of their competitors.
I assume like the review the app was free, but obviously I was mistaken you can't delete the account either seems like a way of catching data to sell. Always leary of apps like this. Be aware 30 day trial only, 5 invoices for $$$19 a month!! I wonder where the reviews came from. Would get my five stars for the semi intuitive set up. As it is well designed to a point.
I accidentally found the website looking for something like it, but didn't imagine I would gonna something this awesome for free! Then I thought to check to see if there was an app, and there was! So easy to use and easy to insert your own logo for professional looking invoices. I just opened a daycare and was having some trouble keeping track of payments and getting a few parents to pay. This solves all my problems. Absolutely love it!
This app has saved my life, and my small graphic design business. It is so intuitive! I love the timer tracking and the way you can set up projects/clients and details. However, I do wish the lower price option allowed you to have more than 5 clients, the jump from 5 clients to 50 in the next price bracket is very large for us small businesses. I will never have more than 8 clients, so I wish it wasn't such a large jump.
It's missing everything I need. Doesn't have project tracking AT ALL, expenses can't be assigned to a project. There's a glitch currently that doesn't set expenses as billable correctly. Mileage tracking is only available in the app, but doesn't allow on demand tracking. Only automatic 24/7 tracking or manual mileage entry. There's so many missing features in my daily workflow I still have to use the web page in desktop mode to access everything.
I have had this app for 5 years. It was great for me as a consultant and I really enjoyed it, but I would never recommend anyone try this app or Freshbooks software in general. I have had 3 instances of major disruptions to my bank connections that lasted weeks with no urgency from support and cumbersome workarounds. Recently, the time tracking app has stopped working on mobile with frequent errors. Do yourself a favor and avoid this app, it is a huge burden to transition to something else.
User since 2008, and as much as I hate to do this, I have go to a 1 star rating. Timer hasn't worked for almost 2 years. Support keeps saying to uninstall and reinstall. Tired of doing that. They really need to fix this. I'm back to the '80's now, writing my hours down on paper. Even with my new Samsung S25 Ultra this problem persists. Importing bank expenses has stopped working and support can't fix it. So sad.
