Firstly the device cost way more than it is worth, secondly, the apps format and interface is so basic and limited in what it can actually do. For the money the device cost it should be able to do everything Alexa can do and much more. For example at least having accurate navigation. I don't even use it. I just use Google. I hate wasting money. This was definitely a waste.
Reviews for Garmin Drive™
← Back to Garmin Drive™Exact same problems as other recent reviews describe. I can see thumbnails, but can't view the videos. Doesn't reliably connect to WiFi even when I have the unit in my home, next to my phone and WiFi router. 1st DC Mini 2 didn't connect reliably. Garmin sent a replacement unit, which has the exact same problems. That leads to the App as the central point of failure and, therefore, renders the hardware useless.
First years would have gotten 5 stars from me. Now, a little over a year later. - 1 star. I have 3 cameras and none of them connect to the app anymore without me having to forget the camera, uninstall the app and then go through the entire setup process. EVERY time! I cannot look at live view or saved video/pictures without resetting everything up. Not something I want to deal with when a cop is asking for video of an accident!!!
I paid $120 for the one with no dash camera a couple years ago and it worked great for a long time. Some months ago, I started getting "Poor Data Connection". I stopped using it for like 4 months, updated the app, reset the connection by forgetting device and reconnecting and still got the same issues. I have complete 4G coverage, and I do not have any trouble with my service or anything like it. This device has give downhill.
Maybe doesn't work with Android 12/13? It used to work, albeit slow, but for months, maybe a year now I cannot connect to the camera to pull videos wirelessly. It just flat out doesn't work anymore. I have to pull the micro SD card and insert that in am adapter and then a reader. Incredibly frustrating, regretting my purchase. Edit: this app definitely needs to be fixed for Android 13. Works fine on my Kindle Fire HD on an older version of Android.
For use with dashcam mini2, it sometimes works, but mostly the bluetooth won't connect reliably. When it does, you can see a list of the videos that are available. That's it. You need WiFi to view the video, but when the WiFi finds the camera it won't connect. On my Android the connection process turns off the WiFi on the phone. The app is more or less useless, you have to connect the camera to a computer to view the video--that aspect works.
Hot garbage - The app simply won't connect to the camera reliably. In fact, I would say it connects less often than it connects when needed. New videos don't seem to load either - it shows the videos from the last time you connected and there is not easy way to get them to refresh. Last time, to see my new videos, I had to reboot the phone. The layout isn't well thought out ether, with too many layers to bet to what you need.
Could do a better job with more details. Pretty much only get basic instructions that you send to the device rather than being able to fully review. No route information is shown. Just the location on the map that you send to the device. No way of knowing after said if you want to go back and review. No indication how things will be ordered if you add them like the ability to add something as a next stop. It's pretty minimal
The app is absolutely useless now. It won't let me send addresses from the app to my Garmin anymore. I've made sure that it's updated, cleared the cache and the data multiple times. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled many times to get it to work and it doesn't. Tried to contact Garmin and all they ask for you do is send your data logs. No solution aside from the ones I presented above, and no response after you give them what they ask for. Again absolutely useless app now.
This has got to be the worst dashcam app ever, it's nearly impossible to review or download any saved clips, and saving video until your storage is full is an option but just doesn't work, it's been like that for over a year, this was my first Garmin dashcam and will definitely be my last, the basic fundamentals simply don't work, I don't know how they can sell this knowing how poorly the software works, or rather just doesn't work
When I bought my 46 dashcam, the app worked great. I was able to view, trim, and download my videos quickly and easily. I loved this so much, I bought another Garmin dashcam to add to my other vehicle. However, now, I feel like I regret my decision because somehow Garmin has ruined their own app. I cannot view or trim videos as the app crashes. Even direct exporting causes the app to crash. And that's even IF it connects to my dashcam... Seriously disappointed.
I love Garmin devices, have their Fenix series watch, RV GPS and several dash cams. I'm guessing though they should probably outsource their app. It is clunky, very slow to connect and on my most recent purchase of a new Garmin 57 series dash cam It will not connect no matter how hard I try. Phone says it's paired, camera says it's connected, but it will not show up in the app to connect to it in the app so while it's connected everywhere it won't work.. just need to plug into computer to update
Functionally, I have no issue with this app. I am satisfied with how it interacts with my car's Garmin GPS device - real time traffic and alternate routes. However, I use the GPS only 2-3 road trips a year, yet the app insists on running in the background 24 hours a day. You cannot force kill it. This is arrogance on the part of the developer.
If it was possible to put zero stars, I would Customer service is inadequate and not helpful. They recently did an update on the app. 8/13, and ever since then I have not been able to connect to my drive 55. The app cannot maintain connection with the device and automatically disconnects every so often. Then when I contact the customer service and follow all the protocols to ensure that my phone was updated, the app was updated, and even to the point of factory reset, nothing was fixed
I can't view any of my files because app constantly says "Connecting to wifi" when I select Videos & Photos. When I try to View Live Feed, it says Connecting to Feed but never connects. When I go into settings, it shows the camera is connected to WiFi. Extremely frustrating. I followed all steps in the Help section to no avail. My phone is new and up-to-date. Looks like I will have to return this camera. Being Garmin, you'd think they could afford to hire software engineers who can fix this.
This was a great app to shoot an address from my phone to my navigation device, until the recent update. Now it says wait while it connects and never connects. I don't have time to play the waiting game. I have places to go. I sat 5 minutes and it didn't connect, yet it was connected to my phone via Bluetooth the entire time. Now it's faster to enter addresses in the old-fashioned way, manually. It simply will not connect to my phone via Bluetooth. Disappointing.
Unfortunately this app is not up to par with the other Garmin apps I've used in the past. I recently purchased a Garmin tandem and set it up. The app will connect to the camera device and I can start to select videos to export but after selecting it's not clear how to just download the raw video files. There's a slow and confusing process to trim the video and export it and this process always fails over wifi. it has been 2 months and I can't find a way to download the videos yet.
The Garmin dashcam mini 2 cameras and this app are terrible, whole chunks of video are missing and the app cannot even show what is there, it's faster to just pull it with a microSD reader. Wanted to pull footage from a drive and the rear camera is missing over 15 min, and what is there has the wrong time overlayed. The app constantly disconnects from the cameras so you cannot watch or trim 2 min of video. both cams updated to latest firmware, makes no difference. Stay away from Garmin products
App works okay, but not great. It doesn't seem to be able to take addresses shared from another app (eg maps or a calendar) even though the same address share functionality works perfectly with other navigation apps. I reported it to tech support a month or so ago, and although they were aware of it, there still hasn't been a fix. Please fix this basic feature. Also, occasionally pairing gets broken between the phone and GPS. Can't simply re-pair. Had to reinstall app per tech support. Clunky.
Good product horrible app. been using a DC mini 2 for a while and the product is great but when I finally upgraded to an s25 ultra i tried the app for all the extras for it. App refuses to connect to the camera and i got a new camera to make sure it wasnt that but wont connect to it either. it also apparently sells data to 3rd party vendors, so don't bother with the app at all, though I do recommend the camera for it's size and quality.
