So here's my take on Garmin Messenger™. I've tested a bunch of satellite communication apps and this one's pretty solid. The global messaging works really well, and I like how it seamlessly switches between networks. And the voice and photo sharing is a nice touch too. The only downside is the satellite service can be hit or miss in certain locations, but that's just the nature of the technology. Overall though, it's a really useful app if you spend time off the grid.

Description

Been using Garmin Messenger™ for a couple months now. It’s basically a satellite messaging app that lets you chat with friends and family even when you don’t have cell service. Pretty solid if you spend a lot of time outdoors or in remote areas.

Here’s what you can do: you can send text messages, photos, and even voice messages when you pair it with a compatible Garmin device. There’s also group messaging, which is pretty cool. And the app automatically switches between internet, cellular, and satellite networks to give you the best connection – super handy.

Look, if you’re into adventure and staying connected in the backcountry, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the satellite service can be a bit spotty in some areas – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you need a way to keep in touch when you’re off the grid.

Extremely unstable. Causes my phone to crash hard. Messages rarely get out, and if they do, it's days later.

Ember Randall October 15, 2025

Incredibly frustrating app, poorly designed and architected. It can't even stay in the right language, and the support suggestion for fixing this is to uninstall and reinstall the app.

took awhile to figure out how to send messages, it's not user-friendly, but once I tested it with friends a couple times and figured it out it's really nice to...
