Pay walled as soon as I signed up. Can't get past the payment portion so I couldn't even test this out. Feral Forager brought me here.
Reviews for Gather: The Foraging App

this makes learning so easy!
looks like a great app but it's pricing itself completely out of the market. of course you need to make money to create and maintain it but you seriously need to rethink how you're monetizing it and be a bit more flexible when looking at how quickly you're expecting your roi
Wow, very impressed with the amount of information and how well this is organized. I've been foraging for almost 10 years and this app will help me learn even more. I love that this is so accessible and easy to use while out foraging.
I think this app is going to be very helpful for a lot of people who are interested in foraging, but a bit apprehensive about getting started! The lookalike pages and timings tailored to your location are two of my favorite features! (Disclaimer-I may be a bit biased towards this app because I made it. 🙂)
can't get it to open on any of my 4 devices 2 Samsung a14 phones a moto g sport or my tablet any idea what is keeping it from Opening all are active on WiFi and have full service
I was trying to get to the calendar from a Feral Foraging YouTube video. I was under the impression this was a free calendar. the web page then says it doesn't exist anymore, but the app is 10x better. I am guessing that given the price of the app, it is DEFINITELY 10x better for him. Too bad it has the forced buy to try for free. I really was looking forward to trying it out. It kinda feels like a bait and switch from the video.
The ease of use, the depth of species (and the promise of more to come), the specificity to locations, the openness of the app creator to listen to the community - is going to make this tool invaluable to my work on the farm. Very grateful for this product.
This premier foraging app has a wealth of tested information and includes guides for beginners. Much research and time went into this passion project to turn it into a reality. If you want a foraging app for the USA, this is the one to get!
If the app is going to require a subscription to use, tell us that up front. I would consider paying $90 a year for this service if I knew in advance, but ambushing the user with a payment on an ostensibly free app sucks.
really, really incredible resource. I haven't seen any app (or field guide for that matter) with as much utility and thoroughness as Gather. I think it's the only foraging resource you need. I can't wait for everyone to discover this app.
if it was a one time purchase maybe. not paying a subscription to an app. when i can just go old fashioned and use a book. the seasonal notifications were the only thing i wanted that would've been convenient to have a reminder rather than waiting for my grandma to bring plants up in conversation. may your cucumbers be soft and your plums over ripened for your greed.
Will be a great resource for beginners but as an advanced forager of 25 years there really wasn't anything new or useful for me. Very nice photos, though. My reply to the developer: I already journal, why would I want to use my phone? And mother nature sends me custom notifications. Those take years to recognize and NO app can do that or teach that. This app, for me at least, seems like a solution in search of a problem.
Easy to use! This is the perfect app for foragers, or anyone, wanting to learn edible species in North America with a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs, flowers, and mushrooms. I love how the developer is willing to improve the app and has a community voting system on what to implement next. Each species goes into great depth on how to identify, where to find, when to find, how to collect, and process. There are also sections on dangerous look-alike species. I'm very happy with it.
This app makes learning about foraging so much easier! The foraging calendar alone is worth the subscription, but you're also getting tons of helpful photos, a detailed description of the plant species and an explanation how to use them! No other app out there has the clear and comprehensive information available in Gather.
Had a friend tell me about this app and show me, but didn't mention the fact it's subscription based. Can't even open the app up and explore it myself to see if it is even worth paying money for, which is an automatic turn off for me using any app. Definitely needs more clarity on the fact that you have to sign up for a subscription to even use it. Even then, I wouldn't waste my money on a subscription based app like this, I'd simply go pay a one time fee for either a book or another service.
I would just like to say how beneficial this app has been for me. I am foraging fruits and plants I've never known about. I have been foraging for quite some years now, and I couldn't be happier from the knowledge and growth that has been added to my foraging skills by using this app. My confidence in what I find isn't questionable anymore, lol. I look forward to using this app every time I go out, and I am able to enjoy my experiences because I have this tool on my person at all times.
I'm doing the 2 week trial right now. As someone new to foraging, I can DEFINITELY see how useful this will be! Layout seems intuitive so far, and it's already been educational for me just walking through a few things. Breaks important facts down *without being too wordy.* (I'm a professional learning designer and this is one of my biggest pet peaves!) I also really appreciated that it prompts commitments for responsible foraging.
The app is great and includes a comprehensive description of the plants, how to identify them, and lets you compare side-by-side with any lookalikes to help you distinguish them. That said, I didn't see any content that would justify paying a subscription for its use. A one time fee would make sense, but paying continually to have access to existing information doesn't feel worthwhile. I'd rather buy a book version of this for $30 than pay $7/month for access to reference material.
