I was trying to tune my guitar and start to tune my A string and it says its too low I time it up and it snaps. I had reset the app many times prior.
Reviews for Gibson: Learn to Play Guitar
← Back to Gibson: Learn to Play GuitarThe app is a great beginners tool and learning expirience, especially if you don't have the time to learn "face to face" with live teacher. There is a small learning curve which makes your progress more accessible. Songs and lessions are added almost every day. Special thanks to Matthew from Gibson customer support for his help about my account.
I was reluctant to try this App because I figured it was another disappointment. But to My Surprise, Its actually really good. Each lesson is broken down and explained in simple terms. It also allows for a redo to hone the skills for that particular exercise. I have experienced a few glitches and Customer Service was right on top of it. No having to wait for a week to hear from them, just a few hours. I Recommend this App for anyone wanting an easy to follow learning tool. Thanks Gibson and Matt
I enjoy practising using this app on my Poco Pad. Learning loads with the amount of practice and songs available. really love it. and would really love to give it 5 stars if not for the heavy ios bias this company is exhibiting, e.g. the headphones icon used in the app (what is that ugly design?) to its message in its emailer. features is not on par as well. and can the in app feedback during practising be available without using the headphones?
The augmented reality function doesn't really seem to work. I've tried recalibrating multiple times, repositioning my phone etc... My results and scores are the same even if I don't actually play any notes. Headphones are not turned up loud enough for the app to hear I still get "perfect" scores and "too low/ too high" even if I'm not playing and have the strings muted.
The app could be good if it could actually start. I did a few lessons but now it will not start, it gets stuck on loading screen. I couldn't even use the trial week. EDIT: After I got contacted by the support team I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now it works OK.
When the yearly subscription ended it took me a few months to renew because of the steep price but finally did it since I enjoyed practicing full songs... most of the songs I was practicing were gone (Police, ACDC, Clapton, probably others I forgot were in my favorites) that's a huge disappointment. I will spend more time on the lessons but won't renew next year.
This app appears to be all about getting you sign up for a subscription. You can't even try a song for free without going through the sign up process to get 14 days free which automatically enrolls you in a $14.99 a month subscription that you will have to cancel. I am assuming they are counting on people forgetting to unsubscribe. While it looks nice there are other apps *cough Songster *cough that offer WAY more tabs for a cheap single app purchase than this offers for a subscription.
Works well, no latency at all once it's sequenced. Lessons seem well laid out and simple to follow, at least from what I can tell in the free side of it. Which gets me to the negative, you can only pay through Google play (gonna guess apple store) I see no way to enter other ways to pay, so I can't get a full access 14 day trial to see what it's full capabilities. I'm not giving Google my credit info, nor am I going to purchase a play store card monthly. Make other ways to pay an option = more⭐️
Edit: I've become an exceptional guitar player. Still give 99% of the credit to the app for keeping me engaged in the beginning. Thanks! I can't believe how truly amazing the experience has been! I didn't know a thing about the guitar and this app, within 6 weeks, taught me the fundamentals and I've got pretty good after practicing and following the lessons. From knowing nothing to having an understanding of the guitar and being able to play licks, riffs, solos, and power cords in a short time.
I liked the app until I learned that none of the songs outside the Strumming Patterns actually have strumming patterns. I've progressed through all the levels and there isn't anything about stuff like hammer-ons, pull-offs, and I don't think I've seen any scales either. The song choice is very limited compared to similar apps also. I'll be canceling my subscription next month.
I like this app. I used to play guitar and know some basics. Wanted to pick up where I left off and for that this app is very good. I'm not sure if it's well suited for a beginning from zero tho, I remember my guitar teacher helping me with technics of how to move and set my fingers and there is only so much one can do with a video about those things. Otherwise, if you like me wanting to restart, this app is great. A quiet room is recommended so the microphone can pick up the sound from your guitar. I don't use an amp on my electric guitar and it still picks up the sounds pretty well. Can't wait to get better to start learning the songs. To all the beginners from zero: hang in there and keep trying, it will get better!
the app says my device is offline because it can't connect with Facebook. I don't allow any apps to do that. Can you make it work without the link? Got your response. Your app is broken. I specifically deny all apps access to Facebook. However, when your app starts up, the 2nd thing it looks for is Facebook. When it can’t find Facebook, it just assumes that the device lacks connectivity. Clicking on “retry” does nothing. Clicking on the “X” on the top right gives me the Gibson splash screen that does nothing, and never goes away.
Fun stuff! Easy to use. It sure would be great if I could cast "The Collection" series to my Chromecast to watch on a larger screen. Update: After contacting support, they promise that they are troubleshooting the absent cast button. The support is excellent. Just be sure you're using a low-latency USB C to 3.5mm adapter if you need to go that route.
I originally gave this app 1 star because of some issues with it recognizing notes, but finally realized that the microphone on my phone needed to be cleaned. After that it got a lot better. The app has been great and has helped me to feel like I'm making consistent progress in my learning. It would get 5 stars if I recognized any of the songs. Other than an occasional premium track (which even those sound like they're covers, not the original artists), none of the music is recognizable.
Its ok, and probably good for beginners. I have a couple of gripes. The song choices are very limited, and the songs that are in there seem to be dumbed down versions, If I'm to spend time to learn a song I would like it to be the legit version. Last gripe is the price, its at least 50% more costly than it should be for what you get. I would be probly be a long term subscriber if I felt the price was a little more realistic.
I love this app, but there are some glitches. I love all the lessons and, after 15 weeks, I've gone from complete novice who couldn't play the guitar to save my life to now knowing how to pick strings and strum and even play some chords. The issues I'm seeing are: even when I've fully completed all lessons in a category, it'll still say I'm missing a skill pick in that category; and today the app refuses to count my session towards the weekly goal even though I completed more than 5 lessons.
Lots of glitches. This app has some good parts, but lacks more than it offers. At first I really like the app and the way it teaches. But the more I got into it the more I found I don't like. I wish there was a way to see the full tab of the song without playing the lesson. Giving a chance to practice without the lesson playing. In the lesson, the app doesn't pick up what I'm playing perfectly. It often tells me I'm playing the wrong note when I'm not. The app freezes and closes a lot.
I have been "playing" guitar for a while as a Strummer. Playing Basic chords and singing along as I play the chords to a song. I wanted to learn more in terms of licks, solos, theory, etc.... sooo many apps and videos out there I tried another app and it's ok but watching videos is far different than an interactive app. I tried the 30 day free trial after I purchased a Gibson guitar. I LOVE this app. it is very fun to practice and has loads of interactive playing.
Update to last review: I am now closing in on 4 months and have basically finished the courses. I am where I would've wanted to be as a guitarist in a year or so when I picked this up. If you liked guitar hero as a kid, you might also get through the courses in 4 months. And there's plenty to do once you finish the courses (song guides, genre guides, etc.) Its extremely addictive. Only complaint is rarely there is poor chord detection but this is 10/10, highly recommend to anyone.
