This is a poorly ported copy directly from the desktop version, and is not user friendly for a tablet. It doesn't size itself to your device, you have to fiddle with it to try to get the interface to be readable. It's default settings are tiny and nearly unreadable. When you do finally find a semi-workable size, half of the icons at the bottom of the screen are cut off so you can't see what you're clicking on.
Reviews for GIMP
← Back to GIMPGrabbed it as had it on my laptop, and was great for prepping images for laser engravings.. unfortunately laptop is struggling to work these days, so, mobile option seemed a good idea.. Pity I've paid for something that doesn't ger past the initial loading screen!! Constant popularity claiming it gas entered an illegal state, or dow loading assets,n doing nothing!! Tried on 3 individual devices, and all gave same result!!
This is awful it's a cloud based gimp. It's just a computer version you are given direct control over. It has no clue you are on Android and it doesn't let you select images via the android gallery. I can't find where my downloaded images are.
Looks like it should work great, but lacks the ability to adjust the fit of the application to the screen. The bottom of the windows are cut off and you can't access the end of the menus. If you make the mistake of minimizing the windows, they are lost below the area you can see . Don't like this being a paid app when it has basic usability issues.
According to Google's Gemini, you are lying to people. It says that the developers of Gimp don't have a mobile version. It says that you are most likely a third party app. However, the one star is not because of that; The app is not well thought out and hard to navigate. it's hard to zoom in and move the app so that you can see everything that you need to. It's hard trying to open any images that you want to work on, because you cannot find the area that you need to go to, when searching. 🤨😠
it's the full gimp software, desktop mode, somehow being emulated. I would give it five stars, if I could actually save the files to my phone's documents folder. I wanted to upload it to my computer. granting permission doesn't work. can't export to other apps either.
This is the same interface as the PC version in every way but with simple touch screen functions to move around, and this is entirely impracticable. If you buy this app anyway, be sure to read the navigation hints in the description. Just keep in mind that where the description says "easier to do on a tablet and with a stylus, but it can be done on a phone or using your finger" is a critically significant understatement, and I would in fact say is dishonesty by omission. Very dissapointing.
Usable. Basically a port of gimp to Android with full functionality. Though it is very hard to fully utilize without a mouse and keyboard. Some keybinds are essential in my opinion and the onscreen keyboard does the job but hardly makes it easy to do. Otherwise this is amazing if you have an Android device that comes with your basic PC input methods.
I love it on a 24 inch monitor but on a phone I need a lot of practice.
Barely usable on a phone, don't bother! It's just the PC version of the software with some very minor tweaks. It is not at all optimised for touch screen use. Although you get all the functionality of the PC software, it also tries to use the same layout which just doesn't work for a mobile device unless you have a mouse and keyboard to work with it.
So much potential, but so painful to run right now. I can't see ANYTHING it's so tiny. To combat this, I plugged my phone into my drawing tablet (compatible via Samsung DEX) and somehow that was worse! Everything was still small, but it was now off to one side of my tablet screen, and still in portrait orientation (as compared to landscape orientation whilst being enlarged to fit the screen). Prior to this experience, I spent a whole day troubleshooting errors just to get the app to even work.
Nothing can beat the Gnu Image Manipulation Program! It's for free and there's practically nothing that can be done in this image editor.
I love Gimp and have used the PC version for well over a decade. So I just dove into buying this app with zero hesitation. Should have read the reviews first as it was a waste of money. This is not at all optimized for mobile use, I can't get it to do anything at all on my phone no matter how hard I try. It's set up exactly like the PC version. Which would be fine, were it actually done in a way that's usable. Not user friendly at all. Regretting this purchase big time, and so disappointed.
I was excited to be able to use this app on my phone when I am not at my PC, but it is waaaaay to finicky, has a ton of issues with navigation, and it runs at like 3 fps while drawing a 1 pixel line, panning the screen just right cuts off some screen options which requires a restart to fix. I would like to use this app more often if they'd just take the time to make a phone app, and not a Desktop Engine ran in the background on a phone.
This is not app friendly. Not samsung note friendly. God every time I tried to zoom in, it would zoom in the wrong areas, make lines, layers are wrong. If you're using this for photo editing, I'm sure it's amazing, but I'm using this to draw and edit and believe me, I'd rather haul my desktop around and a wacom tablet because i truely feel like it is easier than trying to use the app. This could be better on a tablet, but I don't own a tablet.
What is this hot garbage? First you force notifications to use the app. Now it's been sitting there for literally 10 minutes "setting up the file system". Holy cow. Finally it loads up and it simply does not function. Can't open pictures on your phone to edit. If it did, you can't press anywhere with any kind of precision. Thankfully there is a refund button.
Problems mentioned by other reviews seem to have been fixed. One issue, is that a cell phone has niether keyboard not a mice, so some functionality are not easy to access... The zooming is wonky, there is no dedicated up down)left right , there is no way to save in accessible folder of the phone. Edit: about 40 min later, the search function found the xcf file. I don't understand why it didn't find it at the first try. I wasn't able to expose as another file.
I love Gimp. I've been using the desktop version for over 15 years. I appreciate that an app version is available, but this is so poorly executed. It's literally just an emulation of the desktop software. If you're running on a large tablet it might be okay, but it's completely useless on a phone due to scaling. I can't see the image preview when editing settings, and I can't sélect multiple layers. Overall a waste of time.
Incredibly mixed feelings. This is ACTUAL gimp so it does more than any other mobile photo editor... But again; it's... ACTUAL gimp. Like they copy pasted the program. ZERO optimization for mobile, so even though it does everything it's awkward and difficult to use at best, and basically impossible to use at worst. If you are on a tablet with a huge screen and a stylus? Go for it. Under normal circumstances tho, I can't recommend it without adjustments for it to be usable on mobile.
Unfortunately, this app is completely unusable for me. The controls are really bad. First, I cannot see them enough to use them unless I zoom in and out. I'd be willing to do that but I simply can't draw in this app. If I make a long stroke it starts trying to pan the screen and all I get is a big mess. There are also tool popups constantly in my way. The program itself is good, I've used it on PC, but it needs an interface overhaul to work on mobile.
