Knowing the GI with the GL for food and being able to adjust in the app the 100g to my needs has helped me enjoy any food without compromising my health. I WAS pre-diabetic this app together with my food scale I have been able to bring my glucose levels to normal levels. Yay! Before I was fearful of indulging myself in certain food, like for example, blueberries. Found out that I was eating less than what I could have enjoyed confidently.
Reviews for Glycemic Index. Diabetes diary
← Back to Glycemic Index. Diabetes diaryIn theory this app would have been amazing! I was so excited to start logging my food and keeping track that I paid the 1 off for premium features, all was well the first day as I learnt what to do but the next day my logged info for the current day disappeared. I also found it to be not so user friendly when searching foods that weren't a part of the generated list.. happy to donate my purchase if it means it goes towards developing a more user friendly app as the world needs this
I downloaded this app as it stated for its free version: "The free features of the app are: * Food tables of the Glycemic Index, Load and carbohydrates content...... " But I found that it does NOT show the Glycemic Load nor the carbohydrate content. This was the main reason I downloaded the app. So I'm very disappointed that it doesn't do as advertised.
I used to really like this app but with the latest update the numbers are all messed up and features that used to be free aren't anymore. Looking around for something else. Since I can't reply to what you said I am editing this to say I used to be able to track blood pressure and weight but now it's telling me I have to pay for those features.
The app has some basic but handy free features like a basic list of foods on the GI index and their ranking as well as weight tracker and BMI calculator. I've given 2 stars because it doesn't totally NOT deliver but it really only half delivers. The list of foods is short and no extra detail is really available on them without a purchase. I could likely get the same info with a Google search which means without extra details on the foods this is no better than doing that
Somewhat useful, but glycemic load info is obscured from the free version. Since the accuracy of such information presented by apps on Google Play varies, I won't buy it without being able to check it. I uninstalled it. Update: as you can see below, you can risk your personal info permanently in return for temporary access to an app that may not be useful to you (a.k.a. "trial period").
Easy to use, food tables are slowly getting larger to increase more types of food. The app has been at the forefront in aiding my weight loss and then helping to maintain stability once target was reached. As a mobile app, its easy to use, and doesn't have any technical issues. Highly recommended.
Very quick and easy app to use. Very handy if you are watching sugar intake (diet, health, both). The free version shows the Glycemic Index of the food item, & it's all colour coded like traffic lights so very quick to scroll or search for the food you want - & see if it's a good choice! For those who want to eat a low-carb lifestyle and also watching the impact of carbs for health reasons, the app now includes the option to make a one time payment to see the Glycemic Load of food. I love it!
Looks like a good app, for a subject where quality apps are sadly lacking. I I would be prepared to pay fot it, but am not prepared to pay a monthly sub for something like this. Reply to owner: If the food lists are pretty comprehensive &I can get updates, then yes. I'd pay. There are so many apps that only offer subscriptions. I understand the logic...but add them all up (plus bank charges) and I can wave my salary goodbye! I'd much rather be able to budget one-off expenses...
Edit: thanks for clarifying. Sorry I confused it with GL which it seems is not available. There's just not enough in the free version to make it useful for me but someone else that needs an app to calculate BMI might like it. I don't need a glucose tracker. I was just interested in investigating my GL. All the extra features should be in the premium version and a basic GL tracker should be free, if that's what the app's primary purpose, since it's called that. The index by iteself is not hugely useful. My rating is for the free version only. It seems premium users are more satisfied. Old review: The table doesn't display the quantity of food its for so it's pretty useless as a reference table. If you're going to make that one table available for free at least let it be useful. It's really all I wanted. Not really interested in pretty charts and a weight tracker right now so deleted it. Sorry.
the free app looks quite useless and the push for the paid version is too much, like the ad bar covering the essential menus of the app and pop up ads. why would I pay 70 euros for the app if I cannot even assess it initially properly?? even the menu option welcome to the app makes you watch the 30 second add first 🤯 also it does not seem to have an option to just scan the barcode of a product
Needs a better food list... food list is way too generic. Doesn't have things like applesauce, spaghetti sauce, fast food, etc. Needs better option for serving sizes too. Overall an Ok app. My endocrinologist and Obgyn like that I can download all my data and associated details of my glucose monitoring since I can't do it from my testing device. I also wish it'd stop asking me to rate the app all the time... You'd think once was enough.
This app is great! So helpful deciding what to eat. As a diabetic it is important to know the glycemic load of foods so having this resource at my fingertips is game changing. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the units of measure. It would be nice if there were more options than ounces or grams. Cups, for example would be helpful.
The app is clean and we'll designed. I like the ability to track weight and glucose then export to either Dropbox or email. I would give this app five stars but as other users pointed out, the food list is lacking. For $9.99 the foods should be readily available. If you can't find a specific food value you're sent to the University of Sydney's health website. I could transfer the glycemic values to the app myself but again for $9.99 I shouldn't have to. Thank you and keep at it.
The following is my opinion based on my experience. The application is not all that useful as it's just a list of foods with GI. But, you can't really tell if that is similar to the food you eat. I didn't check out the weight tracker and food journal functions because I'm currently using MyFitnessPal for these functions. The ads were so annoying and intrusive that I quickly uninstalled the application.
This app allows me to track my blood sugar and weight and graphs it out for me. I can calculate my meals and check the GI and GL of food. I wished it let me save meals because I am a creature of habit and eat the same thing over and over. After I explored a bit I found it easy to use and for 6.00 a year it is well worth the price for the added features.
My doctor uses this app and showed me. The free version is helpful for deciding what foods to cook. The color coding is great! Premium price is very fair. Update: Food is listed in grams by default: I changed to ounces. Search is tricky. Tip: Search one-word whole food. The developer can step you through any confusion. Glad I asked for help! Ads: if I click for more info or other features, it jumps to a medical website. Confusing! But nothing the developer can help.
The app crashes often. Also, you can't look up specific foods such as "greek yogurt", simply yogurt. I was looking for something to track my daily glycemic load and would happily pay for that if it had a large, specific assortment of food choices, and could average in fat consumption that would slow insulin release. Unfortunately this isnt the app I was looking for. However, it is clean and if it didnt crash, it would be useful for a quick general food lookup.
I paid for the full version so I can put as many values as I need to in a day. So many many great things about this app! If you test often enough it gives you an accurate a1c prediction. I could choose my own appropriate glucose levels for various testing times and circumstances. The graphing is great. Along with ability to make a note as to why your numbers are what they are. The blood pressure part is useful as is the weight and measurements. I can upload my data or hand my phone to the Dr.
I paid so I could see the gylcemic load and carb information for foods. But it's been disappointing. The only options are either grams or ounces. That doesn't work for everything. Also the food list is lacking. You don't have tortillas on the list!! It would be so much better if you could scan bar codes!!! I'll stick to Myfitnesspal!!
