Yikes! I've used this app for years and the new update has many bugs.. I keep getting an error message when I log in but nothing I've looked into is helping. A few months back I was having a very hard time receiving my emails and was getting booted on top of that I Was Getting Someone Else's Emails and that's Scary. Now I can't even get my updated emails until three days after they were sent out . PLEASE FIX THIS APP ITS VERY FLUSTERING NOT BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE AND HAVING TO USE OTHER APPS.
Reviews for Gmail
← Back to GmailI've had great luck with this app, used it for a very long time. More than 10 emails managed at a time. Lastest installed but latest is worst incoming and outgoing settings screen will not appear. they're there and the options can be chosen but you can't see anything. POP3 interface is largest problem, often times options cannot be chosen. 365 settings cannot be accessed. notifications go bat crazy when turned on what a mess
What good is an email app on a smartphone that doesn't have the ability to attach documents to emails in the 21st century - something that's been done since the early 2000s? Repeatedly get a craptastic "Couldn't attach file" error when trying to attach any type of allowed file (DOC, PDF, JPG, etc., etc., etc.) Clearing cache, force closing, no good and all permissions are go. So-called help tips by Google in response don't help.
I keep getting a error message every time I open the app . I click past it and it says I'm in offline mode. this only happened today after the app had updates. the error says- "your account or device settings require you to complete additional steps before using the Gmail app." I saw another comment exactly like this late Sept, but you offered no reply. I have a pixel phone so you would think it would run smoothly with Google products.
It's great, but would like an easy access delete button in the notification. I've been using outlook just for this reason. I get a ton of emails, and the convenience to delete from notification bar kept me on Outlook. I just switched last night back to Gmail in hopes that feature has been added and am disappointed.
The UI keeps changing and making it harder to use. There is now HUGE "REPLY" AND "FORWARD" buttons at the bottom of each email. These buttons are way too big and get in the way of reading emails. It makes it harder to read your emails. Google, please stop making changes to yhe UI that users can't change back to the easy to reaf version.
There needs to be a way to where we can turn off sound notifications in the app instead of having to go to a web browser for each individual contact who sends us information. Getting notifications constantly going off with sounds and interrupting what you're doing on my phone is annoying. Please give us the option to where we can silence the people's contacts that we don't even have in our contacts from different companies who keep sending us emails. Some I don't want to block out completely. 😒
why can't i move emails to labels (folders) i created? it's quite frustrating that this feature was removed. ☹️ also, a friendly suggestion for photos; would be ideal to backup folders, not just photos. it's easier to find what I'm looking for with folders i created than try to remember when a photo was taken as Google sorts photos by date. I've been struggling with this for years!
error about "action needs to be taken" appears to be resolved. i think my main complaint would be that often i won't see emails in the gmail client until hours after i receive it. i'll see an email when logging in using a browser or using a different desktop client, but refreshing gmail doesn't load the newer messages. the delay can be 15 minutes to a few hours. overall it's fine. gmail is what i use for email most of the time. I'll use a desktop client just for cleanup and organization.
I would have given it 5 stars but I'm giving it 3. I've used the app for almost a decade but the increased presence of ads in my inbox is frustrating. I'm here to check emails. Not only that, but sometimes I go to dismiss the ads, the app will rearrange things while I'm actively swiping on an ad and it's resulted in me accidentally deleting an email instead (thankfully I can fetch it from the Trash). Reduce ads please. Other than the ads, the app works great. Organization is easy with labels.
every time I open the app, a pop-up appears that says "additional action required before you can use the gmail app" with no context and no way of figuring out what "additional action" is needed. if you cancel out of the pop-up, it says you can only use the app in offline mode. I just want to check my emails and it seems I'm not the only one with this problem
The recent update has technical issues. sometimes when i open the app, it's completely blank. Often, my accounts say that I need to enter additional credentials or sign in is required. For a little bit, my Microsoft accounts wouldn't even log-in, even though they've worked for years with no issue.
I added two new email accounts to this app and despite following all the instructions to change all the necessary settings to receive notifications, these new accounts are categorized as unused under the notifications portion of the settings for this app, and I still cannot get the notifications. I've sent feedback to Google on multiple occasions, and still have not gotten any assistance. These two new accounts will be my primary accounts, so it's crucial I get notifications for them.
I like how fast Im able to receive and send emails, and how easy the app is to use. But, a huge draw back is the fact we are unable to create and store emails we need to save in folders. it makes us create "labels" without seemingly being able to store them anywhere other than the inbox, making unnecessary clutter. please change this. for such a massive company you would think you would give us some more free storage space for emails/folders, until then yahoo mail has my 5 star.
I have always enjoyed emailing, so this app is amazing! I love how organized everything is and how you can even, I think, create different files and groups to categorize your emails, which is neat. So, it's definitely a good option for email writing. I do have to say, though, I think that all the spam emails that you get out of the blue are a bit ridiculous and could use some change, and finding a better way to unsubcribe to certain app emails you get from apps you don't use any more would help
Not sure if this can even be changed, but on my old phone the stars showed up as yellow. On my new phone (Pixel 8a), they are just showing up as gray. I do not notice the messages at all with gray stars, so it's almost pointless to use them. It would be lovely if the multiple color options available to use if logged in on a computer were also in the app, but I at least want some color back for my stars.
The app works great for most tasks, yet every update seems to change other minor things. Most of my emails do not fit the page now when I open them. I have to scroll from left to right to see the whole email. That is very annoying, especially in portrait mode. Even in landscape mode, which I don't prefer at all when viewing an email, I still have to scroll to see the whole email. Absurd!! Why can I not create/edit folders in the app? Not nice GOOGLE! More users have smartphones versus computer!
After how many years, still can't delete a single messages in a conversation; Now using AI for search results and can no longer get exact seaeches. For example, a search for Tripadvisor gives me anything with the word review in it. WHY? If I wanted reviews, I would search for the word reviews. And now searches aren't even hitting partial words making the function pointless, so review, yes, reviewsite, no. No ability to permanently move items out of categories either. *3 because it's functional.
The "to continue, you'lll need to take additional action" error message is crazy annoying. every time you open the app, error message. nothing i do resolves it. Gmail needs to fix it quickly! "your account or device settings require you to complete additional steps before using the Gmail app." doesn't give us any clue as to what to do to fix the issue. is it even fixable? seems like it is a bug that is driving people nuts. check the forums.
For some reason the "Reply", "Reply All", and "Forward" buttons are scaled way up, so much so to the point that it blocks to bottom part of the email I'm reading. In addition, they are so large that the text for some of them actually get cut off and move to the bottom, an example would be the "Forward" button. This is only on my mobile app from what I can tell, and the orientation of the screen has no effect on the button sizes. Other than that, it's pretty standard email app.
