Not great at all. The app is too basic and would really benefit from the add friend features that are available on the desktop site. It's so frustrating trying to add people on the app as you have to switch to the desktop site. I don't want to add people from my contacts on my phone so which is all the app offers. Make the app more like the desktop site!! Trust me that's what we want!! We use phones more than we do computers these days!!!
Reviews for Goodreads: Book Reviews
← Back to Goodreads: Book ReviewsSuper easy to navigate. Loving the filters throughout the app. Simple to review and post. Doesn't have an option that shows who's on goodreads through contacts. That would be nice to know who has it. Only con is that the giveaway section doesn't clear out the ones you've entere in. When you go through them thinking you haven't entered it but it tells you that you have. Will there be an option for it to be filtered too? I'd have to keep scrolling to find ones I haven't entered in. Time consuming.
I use this app everyday and it does wonders in helping me to discover and log books for my shelves. I've noticed, though, that there are so many aspects missing from the web, such as being able to look up book editions and reply to comments. Makes it a little harder to maintain communication with other members. Wish that was made easier for Android users. And now, the cover scanner doesn't work. Loved that thing. It was insanely useful. A good app, but it can be better.
This app has never been perfect, but it was somewhat usable for a bit. However, the current iteration is ridiculous, even for them. I have to re-sign in every time I want to look at my reading challenge. The challenge is "conveniently" linked to my kindle account, but it counts books multiple times or inputs invalid entries. It might be time to switch to a new book tracking app.
As others note, this app is full of bugs. Most notable to me is setting one's birthday. Tapping the left arrow for minutes on end to arrive at the correct year is absolutely ludicrous. Surely, in the big wide world of app developers' tool kits, there is a plug in that allows easy entry of month-day-year. So many sites include such an easy to use function. Please get your act together.
I love goodreads. it has all the books i search, although its a bit odd to have multiple versions of the same book (editions, audiobooks etc), so books I've already tracked show up in my recommendations. That being said, the ap does exactly what I want it to: allows me to track and review the books i read, and want to read. I enjoy the recommendations, although the algorithm leaves something to be desired. I am often recommended very old book, when I clearly enjoy newer books.
The stupidest thing with this app that makes absolutely no sense is that you can no longer see the updates of your reading progress, but you get constant updates of your friends'!!! Shouldn't it be the other way around??? Update... 6 years later, and still the same problem! How an app can have a 2.9 rating and still be an Editor's Choice is beyond me!
This is is a pretty solid app (and website) for tracking and finding new books, but there's definitely room for improvement. It would be so helpful if we could sort books on author pages by things like what we're currently reading, release date, or even genre. Right now, they’re only sorted by the number of ratings, which is useful, but it feels kinda limiting. Having more ways to organize the books would make browsing a lot smoother and really improve the overall experience with author pages
It's the best book keeping app I've found, yet I think it could still improve considerably. One thing I wish was easier is finding & adding friends. It would be nice to connect to social media. Overall, the interface of the app feels a bit clunky & dated. I really love being able to find almost any book on it, tracking the progress, and leaving a review. My favorite thing though is getting to see what my friends are reading and adding to the neverending want to read list 🫶
App could be so good, but the features are so elementary. It needs: More search bars- ridiculous having to scroll for several minutes to find one specific review Give us the autonomy to choose how our results are ordered. Like I said before, it's so hard to find things. We should have the option to: Order from latest to earliest, reverse, most popular to least, reverse, and more. Also the activity panel is just a long list of everything a user has ever done. Make it easy for us to use please.
The app has a lot of good recommendations and community reviews have been very helpful for me. However, the app itself often drives me crazy with its incredibly slow performance. The search is weird, if you make a typo in the book name, half of the time it doesn't do the auto-correct and finds nothing...
The User Interface totally kills goodreads. It needs a MAJOR overhaul to be worth using. There's no way to change what edition of a book you're reading, and no menu comes up when adding or moving books to lists. There's also no Book Club Social option, you're limited to seeing what activity is happening on accounts you follow. Time for a change up.
Easy to use. Is good, but, could be better. When reporting a person though, whether if its a regular member or a "GoodReads Author," we should be able to report & block if we want to (i.e. harrassing me or someone else, spamming messages, threatening, etc.)!The Support Team could do & be better!{UPDATE from 12/10/24}; The app is saying that I'm not logged in when I actually am! And 2nd, I can't see the Settings within the app in order for me to deactivate the acct.! Need sum help here, please!
The app doesn't offer any more than the mobile browser, except for taking photos, which I never do. For example, there is no "not interested" option on recommendations, and you can't use the "compare books" feature. I prefer to use the mobile web which I can switch to desktop, when I need to use more advanced features. The app is limited and unnecessary the way it is currently designed.
It's nice to have somewhere to put your opinion and keep track of all you've read. But my complaint with this is that when you sort by author, the series' aren't in order... You also can't sort reviews in order by date. Also, they only count ebooks read in the total read per year, so if you're a person who doesn't like ebooks then you're SOL. Also, there's no way to ask a question or make a comment without it marking as read. maybe some ppl want to know more info or ask something
If I want to remove a book from my lists, I should be able to do so. I dont care about there being "unusual behavior" around the author/book. It's my list and my profile. I understand limiting review bombing but it's too far to not allow you to remove books you no longer care for. I've used good reads on and off for a while now, but this is the first time I've had this issue.
I really wish I could rate with half stars too on Goodreads, so very many books I read would involve an additional 1/2 star when I rate them. I appreciate the app being out there and free to kind of keep track of what I have read. Sometimes it helps me with reading orders and additional books the authors have written. The app is finicky though, often not letting me save ratings without a review, which seems unintended. I continue to use it because it is so easy being linked to my Kindle.
Put that thing back where it came from or so help meeeeee. This whole teaming up with Kindle for tracking useless goals is infuriating. Why must I have to travel through multiple windows to even see what I've read this year, let alone edit my read dates and rate the books. Why not make it possible for us to search for lists or see all the quotes from the book like we can on the desktop version? This new update is a MAJOR step in the wrong direction.
I had to create an entirely new account because this app just randomly kicked me out and my password stopped working. I requested the password reset email at least 50 times and nothing. When you try to use the "help" feature it simply says to use the password reset. I'm fairly certain no one actually works for goodreads, so if you have any issues, no one exists to fix them. Looking for a different app now, as I'm afraid this new account I made will also get locked at some point.
I am in love with this app! It helps me keep track of what I'm reading and my progress which is a great motivator!! It also allows me to easily create a to be read list! The only thing for me is I wish I could sort my to be read list or even filter it when I am looking for a specific genre, so if looking for a horror book out of that list I can select horror and have all that genre that I've added to the list brought up on one page without having to scroll through the rest!
