I'd like to do routes, like with my old dedicated GPS. Too many questions before starting to record a track & too many questions when trying to save a track. Also when I open I don’t want old tracks in the way. I want to be able to add a waypoint from my own records, not only after I have already arrived at that point. Edit: the start and finish are now better, other issues the same and I'd like more mouse support for my android tablet. Copy/paste from the statistics no longer works. Great prog.
Reviews for GPX Viewer PRO
Exactly what I needed. I've used the free version of this for 2 years and decided to upgrade. It's perfect, not only can I view previous routes I've walked, but it can also trace/track as I walk. My goal is to walk every street, road and trail in the city I live and this app gives me a great visual of my progress.
App great to follow downloaded tracks. But for recording + FINDING own tracks, way too complicated! Annoying! First, you need to delve into the not-intuitive menus to record a walk or run. Then you record a track, okay, but when you stop there's a very strange two-step process to save + "export" said track -- still haven't got it, guess I'm stupid. Then looking for/opening a track is a several-minute-nightmare in subfolders -- you must fight your way thru screens and "paths". Please simplify!
This is my goto app for hiking. Love that I can create waypoints of interest in Google MyMaps, then overlay them on a trail by loading both files into GPX Viewer. I like the distance icons, but wish I could adjust size (they are a little to small for me to see in dim light conditions). Most of the trails have no cell service, and the offline maps are better than Google's online versions when hiking
It would be nice if the app truly downloaded all the information in the original geocaching file. The GPX file as downloaded onto my cellphone is extremely limited and has nothing of the original photos or other text data. Consequently, I still must manually download and save elsewhere for when I'm offline, out in the field. That said, I do like the maps that show all of a cache's waypoints, something I don't see on my GPXr. I also like the ability to quickly switch between map types.
I have changed my review from 2 stars since there is now the ability to connect directly with a track creator program (although I prefer the app Offroad so I can do everything on the phone) and now help is give on how to get app to work in background with android 10. The app is now behaving as I expected. All that is needed is couple of large font stats like time and distance when recording so that I don't have to get my glasses out constantly.
This app is usually all I use for following a route. It works very well. This is really all a GPX viewer should be. There are a surprising number of good maps to choose from also. My downside is having to use it on a device (smartphone) which can't be easily seen in some lighting conditions (full bright sun.)
Offline-maps disappear and take forever to re-download whatever network connection you have. Need to stay on the map download screen for it not to cancel, so prepare for a couple of hours locked within this screen if planning to use for navigation. Map packs are often grouped into entire countries, in case you are doing a 1500 mile stroll across the nation. Unfeasable for areas with poor or no cellular coverage. The functionality of the app itself, had it worked as intended, is highly desired.
Mostly great doing what it is supposed to, but as far as I can tell there's no way to increase the size of different map icons (like lean-tos and fireplaces etc.) and text like roadnames. They don't seem to scale when you zoom in. Especially on sunny days they are just impossibly small for my eyes. Because of this I'm forced to find some similar app that also scales the mentioned items.
This is the perfect app for those who like to plan their hikes using a desktop, download the kml/gpx files to their phone, and then use an app for navigation in a setting without a signal or data connectivity. It is well designed for this task, and aims to do nothing else, which I consider the right trade-off with respect to speed/responsiveness and battery consumption. The interface is simple an intuitive, and compared to some other apps it is very light on the battery (using up about 60% of my phone battery during a 8-hour hike, which is very reasonable; for multi-day hikes I carry a power bank and of course backup maps on paper if available). The PRO version is well worth it since it allows me to download offline maps, which I found to be high-quality (usually better than paper maps for most countries I visited). Maps are country-specific so it is easy to download the right ones in advance. I especially like the elevation display one can place below the map, it is very useful when planning rest stops with a group.
