I lost money. I bought one of these cards at the dollar store to pay a bill. Loaded $60 on it. Followed the directions to register the card, but kept receiving the same error message: "We are unable to validate this card. Please try again later." Called the phone number and contacted customer service online but the error still continues and nothing has been resolved. I lost my money and can't pay my bill now. Green Dot is ghetto and crooked. Do not purchase cards from them!

That's a no no, and then a no no no to no one to speak to. I refuse to chase you when you are holding my $$$. You are the chaser. Appreciate the people that pay you. Over the top customer service, above and beyond is the only acceptable platform I have ever used working, I expect nothing less.
From the beginning ice had issues with them. When they first came out I thought why not try it so I signed up and got my card, deposited funds to get started then all of a sudden I received another card. We've been going back and forth because when I tried to reduce the issue with the first card I received, no one could find my $$!. I stopped using this bank and am still getting charged a $7.95 free every month. I am displeased and my problem never got resolved.
DO NOT USE! This bank is some type of scam, they offer no actual support to any error or problem you may encounter on the app OR card. I was told I had 4 different issues by the same one person but they couldn't stay on the line to actually help me, when I fixed the problems given to me it still says my card is declined, terrible card, terrible bank with tons of fees. Money managing on this bank is absolutely garbage because of it. I HIGHLY recommend you look elsewhere for something like this.
I do not write reviews. But I have to say something about this company. They are a ripp off! I was keep getting overdrafted on my account because they are aurtorizinig transaction I didn't agree too. Was signed to a $200 protection, also did not ask for, and my account is now negative. They can NEVER find the transaction on their end, but you can clearly see it on yours. I would not recommend their services to anyone. The "perks" are not worth the headache.
Absolutely terrible and a complete lie. I have had this account for some time now, and not only can I not ever deposit a check through the app, but I have had money taken out that I have not spent and I have not been able to access ANY of the "cash back rewards" in the time frame the app says I could access it. I also need to dispute transactions, but I am afraid to because others have mentioned that when you do that, you no longer have access to your money while they look into it!
Used it for over a year. Had direct deposit from work. App worked well, and was able to access my info, and money. Green Dots fees were too much compared to similar online banking options. And I had a hard time contacting their headquarters when I had an issue. Had to write, and hand mail a letter to them with my questions, received no reply. That was 2 years ago. Maybe it"s different now.
SCAM! DO NOT USE THIS CARD! if you have a large amount of money in the account you can NOT get but $3k total out per month unless you close your account. They say they will send you a chk. I've closed mine 3 times and waited 3 times for a chk never received it. I managed to find loopholes to get all my money. I'm still getting charge monthly fees on a supposed to be closed account. You can get nowhere with customer service. I've learned a valuable lesson. DO NOT USE THIS CARD!!!
Never get this card or make sure you read the fine print on the mini paper in the card at purchase. I picked it up because it said I would get bonus money on purchases after a year, only been 6 months so, can't verify that but, $3.95 each load & then $7.50 maintenance fee a month, the fine print I did NOT see, basically that "bonus money" is just returning the money essentially taken from me that was already mine in the first place. AFTER they gain interest on it for a year. How thoughtful!
I gave green dot" a chance, and have been a customer for over 2 years. In the second year the issues began. They offer a $200 overdraft that charges $15 every time. You are unable to add green dot account to different banking or money apps because most of them do not recognize or register green dot as a bank. They say get your paycheck early that's bs. I work in payroll for the company, I deposit everyone's check Tuesday and green dot doesn't let me receive it until Friday morning. TRY CASHAPP
It barely works I had to constantly scan my card just for it to say 'enter correct card information' even though everything was correct. Then after about 15 tries I finally tried to enter my info (name, address, ssn etc etc) and I had to enter it in 5 times before I can make an account. Now I'm trying to log into to the account and it keeps saying 'you must log in to see your balance' and 'you must log in to see your account' then the app closes and I cannot log into the account.
Review update: wish i could give you 0 stars. 6 days later after your app crashed after an update now nothing shows up on the app or on the website. My transaction history won't come up and it will not allow me to save or unsave money from my vault. When I call and enter my card number or social it says it can't be verified. You lost yourself a customer. Too many issues and not enough answers.
They charge you way too much for everything. Using the vault to "save" money for every transaction and each month. I work my ass off to get paid and I can't even spend it how I want to cause they charge way too much for everything. Worst prepaid app card ever purchased. Would give minus stars if it were possible but this is the only bad review I've ever really had to tell other people for their protection.
Surprise, started charging fees with no warning. $9.95 per month. Got me twice before I noticed it. Shame on me. I was going to give them a second chance. The FAQ says go to account page to find out how to be exempt from fees. There was nothing on that page about how to be exempt. So I'm done with Green Dot. Had to log on to a computer to access the close account option.
The app and website frequently go down, with customer service literally telling you to call back before hanging up. They do not resolve or acknowledge problems. Switching money between savings and checking will often get money to disappear. At random times, your money is frozen and your debit card is declined even with money in the account. Terrible customer service, literally can't pay bills because when the service frequently goes down, you also can't use an ATM to withdraw money.
THE WORST!! I made a payment to a company and on the company's end the payment didnt go through. It said card error. I tried to compete the payment twice. Green dot still charged my card even though the payment didnt go through. I called green dot as well as had screen shots of the pending transaction. The transaction was pending for about 12 days then all of a sudden everything was gone. Like the transaction never existed. Green dot didn't help at all and I lost my money. They are scammers
I do not recommend this bank app. Unable to contact customer service from the app. You have to use the phone number on the debit card. Some deposits are missing, and the reps keep telling me to check with the sender. The sender gave me trace numbers. The Green Dot rep says they are "unable to use trace #". So, what do I do now? The bill pay function is also poor. If you set up a bill payment, and cancel one payment, the app shows a check mark as "paid." Very confusing when you want to see your payment history. I do not recommend Green Dot Bank.
I recently opened an account with green dot and everything was going smoothly, and then all of a sudden, I logged in. And somebody had hacked my account and cleaned my bank account out. I've got no response from customer service, trying to dispute the transaction and I don't know what to do. It's like they don't care. i was still never able to dispute the transaction. I'm very disappointed in my choice. I'm very disappointed in my choice for online bank..
Purchased the card to use in a dire situation. Called the service number got hungup on. Tried again, got a message saying technical difficulties. Downloaded the app, out of service. Went to website, out of service. Looked for alternative options to contact this company. Sent a message, no reply. It's been long enough and too much hassle. I want my money back!😡
I've had greendot for years and never had issue. All of a sudden I see fraudulent charges on my account. I called up and because its pending they can't do anything about it. I have to wait until the transaction goes through to dispute it could say pending for a week. Funny how the charge was for the exact amount that was in my account. Now a real company that cared about customers would refund the amount back to the customer. So I have no money, and they are losing a loyal customer. Stay away!!!
