This app is extremely good. I use it as an O/O for all my daily loads. I never have to worry about going down a narrow street for cars only, a low bridge, or any tolls. I can also change it to satellite view and select multiple ways to get to my destination if there's more than one way to get there. I highly suggest using this as a main or alternative GPS in the event you want a stress free drive operating a commercial vehicle.
Reviews for Hammer: Truck GPS & Maps
← Back to Hammer: Truck GPS & MapsJust last week, the app couldn't find a suitable truck route so it sent me on the car route. But the truck route was one exit further down the road. Many times, it has directed me several miles farther than necessary, just to have me U-turn and go back 6 or 7(or 10) miles to an exit I SHOULD have taken in the first place. Also, why, when I put in a specific Petro or T/A truck stop, does that truck stop not show up at the TOP of my choices. Overall, it's okay, but it needs some work.
App no longer connects to Bluetooth. Accept while on the phone. Then it connects and interrupts call. Every other gps connects fine. I've sent several messages to tech department, with no response. This was my favorite gps for years. Unfortunately I'm going to have cancel my subscription. Which is a shame. When this app worked (before last update) it was way better than any others. Now it's almost unusable. :(
I want to preface this with, at first I loved the app. But the more I use it, the more I hate it. Pros: good with routing around low bridges, weight restricted roads, etc. Cons: I've had directions freeze and had to restart the app, it tried sending me down roads that are posted no trucks, speed limits are not always accurate, and finally it will reset the trip mid way telling you to go back to your first checkpoint. Bought a $400 trucker GPS today as I'm fed up with it. Only use if no choice!
Not saying good or bad as a routing app. But, routing is easy. The number of options available on the market for CMV drivers, so many of them. This is obviously aggregated data from other sources. And repackaged. That is not a bad thing. My complaint is the actual searching capability. The app does not search then sort by GPS location. 17 miles away "Walmart"? Never displayed. BP next door, Never displayed. Motel 6 across the street? Every motel 6 displayed was over 250 miles away.
For a free trucking app I get what your going for but routing needs work. It's so clunky, no easy way to move stuff around without redoing the whole thing, communication error when you do and then it just does the same route originally anyways. I can forgive that but THE biggest glaring issue is it does not tell you when you're at a stop during a multiple stop route. It just keeps going like it's a giant round trip and no stops are there. I can't use it if I'm driving past my stops which I did.
In the past 3-4 months Hammer has been unable to even form a route for a multitude of locations. Its been giving me a screen of "communication error". This is usually resolved by punching in the address again and it works fine. App is up to date without any data or Wi-Fi connection issues. This morning however, it has failed to work at all. Even with uninstalling, restarting my phone, and reinstalling. Hammer has been reliable up to this point, it's a shame it's no longer.
Use this app if you want to find another career. Gets lost constantly. Has issues finding approximate locations. I know it's free, but it has many bugs and needs to be reworked. Your job is on the line, and the safety of others is on the line. Try Route4trucks for a free little app that functions well with your usual atlas GPS system. This app needs further development. 1 star
I'm using this and So far so good. I have just 1 issue. While navigating , the turns are somewhat harder to see because it is zoomed out too far. I can't really see the next turn while navigating even with a large screen. I think the team should consider having the navigation zoomed in a little more on turns... Everything else seems great so far. I see that they have allowed users to give a Truck Entry point which is very important. On Android, the app seems to work well on a mid range phone!
Has potential, it crashes constantly tho, if they fix that it will be great, but it needs to be fixed, maybe then I would subscribe for 2.99 or 5.99, depending on the reliability, but for now it is not up to speed with other navigation apps, hoping they fix the crash issue, it crashes every 5 minutes or less! Oops i missed my turn.... Ugh!, App crashed again! :(
updating my previous review. I don't know how an app gets worse over time. when you clock to zoom out, it doesn't center properly, and if you tap north to face up, your route goes completely off screen. the route instructions also freeze and glitch up at least once a day, where it will just stick on the last turn. doesn't update for road closures, critical of you drive country roads. if you do detour, it will completely change the route instead of getting you back to your chosen route.
Posted speed don't show up while driving, or it if they do once you go over 65 mph it starts to give you warnings when the posted speed limit is higher. Need truck entrances to locations. I don't like the fact that while you're going through a city there are to many lanes being displayed. That can be confusing. I can't change the load ugly voice it uses to give you directions while app is being used. Please upgrade.
Well, it's definitely worth the $3 or $6 that it's asking for. I've used it for a few days, and it helps me feel confident that I will avoid roads or bridges that I can not be on. It has the potential with a (little more improvement) to be the go-to app for us truckers. I do find that having this app, while actively having Waze or Google Maps, works great together, especially if you don't want to spend money on a GPS tablet.
You guys are killing me. While this is one of the better apps I've used, I have missed turns, driven to wrong directions and led down streets where I've had to back a 25 ft trailer into someone's yard to turn around due to the app taking me to the wrong destination. And it wasn't even close to the proper destination. Come on guys, driving in NY/NJ is hard enough. I shouldn't have to use two separate GPS apps to get places
it does a pretty good job of showing low bridges, weight restrictions, non truck routes etc.. However, its actual navigation can be an issue. It will still route me down a 6T road (it shows it on map). I can understand if it didn't know an updated weight on road, but it literally says the road is 6T limit and then routes me through it every time. *yes I have my truck saved at 60k lbs, still routes it through there, can't avoid it.* if it wasn't free, it would be 3 stars.
Haven't ran into a low bridge yet, so that's a plus! Does a good job of staying in real time. I only have two small things to mention. When it's in picture and picture mode it's really hard to read the miles remaining before your next exit or turn and it has a tendency of heating up my phone when in use. Other than that I love this app!
this was one of if not the best free trucker GPS app. but it is far from being the best paid app if that's what we are forced to do. sadly this will be about my fifth or sixth choice if I have to pay compared to other GPS apps that are better that require a subscription. I understand their map data costs went up.. the sadly they've got a lot of work to do if they want to be worth what they're asking.
i like the app generally, but they are starting to try and roll out a forced subscription service. i realize that with operating costs, it might be untenable otherwise, but if they go from a free app to a paid one, they are going to be competing with all the other paid apps on the market. Unfortunately, they can not compare to their competition if that is the case.
this was by far the best truck driving GPS app on the market and it went from five stars to one because we're being forced to pay another monthly bill for another app! Why can't we just deal with the ads??¿ can you at least make a one-time payment because I am not adding another monthly bill to my already rapidly growing amount of monthly payments! Other apps use ads to help pay for their app so I'm not sure why you guys stopped, it was def worth it! So for now I'm going back to google GPS!
This app did not work for me as a local delivery driver. It doesn't put way point pins and dosnt alphabetize or number your stops which makes it very difficult. It also doesn't tell you what your next stops address is, all it says is "you've reached your way point". The app also likes taking you the long way around and or to the wrong address. What can I say it's a free app. I would much rather recommend Trucker Path and pay the $30 mo
