I just bought a new Uniden R8 radar detector and loaded and configured this app. The app saved me a big ticket in the first day! I was driving on the highway though Ohio and the app warned me about police ahead so I adjusted my speed accordingly. Well sure enough there was an Ohio State Trooper using instant on laser and he gunned me with it. My new R8 detector went off but if I didn't have this great Highway Radar app, I may have gotten a big ticket! Many thanks to the developers!!
Reviews for Highway Radar
← Back to Highway RadarThis app is absolutely fantastic for the purpose for which it was created! It could use some updates to speed limits, but it is hard to compete with the resources of a company like Google. That being said, I am planning to be a monthly donor, and if you try it and agree, I suggest that you do the same to keep this going. Be sure to take the time to read the manual to get it working properly and customized for your particular needs.
Works well with uniden R4, can change settings much easier in the app than the detector menu itself. Also nice to have the alerts go through my cars system instead of the speaker on the detector. Using wzsabre plugin for crowd sourced alerts and haven't had any problems with that.
They Seriously need to improve the alerting function. The app gives you speed camera and red light camera alerts on streets you're not even driving on. There's no way to fine-tune that. This can be a big this distraction from more important alerts that you need to pay attention to. The app has a lot of potential but it's annoyance needs to be addressed. As you see other people complain about the same thing. Also relating to the alerting function if you want to try to have it on the alert
Great app! Integrates with R4w perfectly. Would like to add a suggestion. it would be nice to be able to setup over-speed alerts even if there are no active alerts.
In terms of usability, it is really easy and straightforward to get around, but since I installed it, it worked like a charm for a day or two, until it would just stop working, randomly closing itself out. If anyone has any advice on this, please reply, DM, etc.
Awesome app!!! Came here from rdf and I'm so happy to see how quick the developer is to make changes and better the experience for everyone. It started off great and every update makes it better. No app can match this right now. With waze and the plane alerts you have an enormous database of alerts and unparalled alert distance. Waze is great but half the time it wont alert for me and when it does, its way too close. Highway Radar is super customizable and offers what no other app does.
Excellent app. Only thing I can think of is allowing users to add aircrafts to the suspicious list. The police helicopters in my area just come up as unknown, even though I roughly know their tail numbers, it can be hard to hear when the app reads it out and says unknown at the end especially because I'm on a motorcycle and have no visual of my phone screen
@Todd Penner, in the review, below gave this a 1 star. He is wrong. This app is designed to alert you of road hazards and speed traps. It is not a navigation aide. It works exactly as advertised. I use it everytime I road trip, has actually saved me from a speeding ticket.
Extremely useful and feature filled app. No ads, no subscriptions, no charges of any kind. A whole lot of time and work put into an app with the author getting essentially nothing in return for his effort. Your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed! Thank you!
Phenomenal concept and brilliant partial execution....stopped short by lack of compatibility with Android Auto. If you feel safer every time you add another led screen to the inside of your car then this is the app for you... Otherwise just use Waze and wait for someone else to finish this concept. It's so close to perfection, the fact they stopped short is astonishing. What a shame.
It worked great on my drive from SC to Florida. I was able to get advanced warnings of police the whole time. I would get an alert when the police were 3.5 miles away. Using it for normal driving at home doesn't work because it alerts for police in the vicinity, but no where I'm going. Overall, it works great for the highway. Please read the instructions before giving up. I followed the instructions and it worked great.
Just tried this app on a drive to Boston. It is a keeper companion app imo. I ran it on a backup phone I have and run Waze on my main phone (Android Auto) for navigation. The crowd source part by using the plugin works great and provides much better awareness of threats by a mile + before my Uniden R4 which also works well alerted me in plenty of time. The developer(s) have done a quality job. I am surprised there are not more reviews.
At the moment it comes 2nd place in my preferred driver aid apps. I'm in Australia and by the looks its gaining popularity. Notifications are being made by users of the app. It doesn't recognize fixed speed cameras perhaps the developers can use the "Trinity 3.0"speedcamera database or something compatible with the southern hemisphere.. Also have an option for metric measurements. Anyhow I like it. And thank you for your work in getting this app up and running.. 👍 👍
I love this app and got an Android phone to use it! Couple improvements to suggest: When speed traps are reported on perpendicular roads (ones not traveling on) it gives the speed limit as the one being currently on. Example, driving on a highway with 65mph limit and warning for a speed trap at a side road with 25mph but app voice says speed limit 65. Not sure how it could be fixed, maybe not mention speed limit on roads not currently being driven on. Other than that this app is amazing!
Just started using it with Uniden R8 and so far it's been 100% correct with alerts. A fantastic app. Was a bit of a tech challenge to pair with a Samsung s23 ultra but tge answers on how to do it are out there. Next step is to figure out how to get it on the car screen via Android Auto.
An amazing companion app with your radar detector. I have a Uniden R8 and using Highway Radar is such a game changer. Once setup, it works wonderfully on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Being able to setup SABRE plugins for police alerts and reporting is great as well. Auto Lockouts for K band alerts works great as well. Overall a great companion app and will always run this on any major road trips.
The Gold Standard in App development. I have used this for a while, but using it on a road trip now, I've had time to think and appreciate this app for what it is. It's exactly what you want, exactly when you need it, all the features you need, VERY well executed controls, which is very important for an app that might get used while driving. More specifically, it's got traffic density, cop density, weather, speed limits, *aircraft, helpful audio alerts, and all the settings you could ever want.
The app is pretty great, I don't think I've drove without it in the past year. Even if you're not using it to avoid speed traps, being alerted about cars on the side of the road, potholes, roadkill, etc is very useful and has allowed me to prepare so I didn't have to take emergency action to avoid hitting obstacles a number of times. My only complaint is how the app really wants to rotate to portrait mode more than any other app I have, I have yet to figure out why this happens.
This is a very helpful app. I do have a suggestion. When the connection is lost, we often do not realize it until we happen to look down and see a message, as we are paying attention to the road. Perhaps a notification error tone when the connection is lost, or a "radar sweep" while the app is active so that we know the app is not functioning if there is no sweep on the screen... or something beyond just the small orange square in the corner. Just a thought. Thanks!
