Reviews for HiiKER: The Offline Hiking app

← Back to HiiKER: The Offline Hiking app

This would be the perfect application for me, if it did what it claimed. I have been using the app for about a year, and in that time it has never been without issues, despite multiple revisions. As of October 2024 the offline maps seem to know work finally, however you still need a connection to load planned routes at the start of your hike. I want to love this app, but it has been nothing but frustration and unreliable. This is not worth £40.

Hiker is an awesome app. Guided me through the entire TMB with my downloaded gpx. Highly recommend, it's awesome!

I've use several hiking apps but this is now my favourite & most used by far. The free version is brilliant but so glad I paid for the pro version as it's such a cheap price for so many features it's a no brainer to have this installed. Very helpful & fast replys from the developers if any problems or questions. A++++

10/10 App free version is crazy good! No obtrusive ads, excellent trails and maps. Great tracking (don't really use it) but nice to have. Works great offline! Can't say enough good things about it!

Having used the Ordnance Survey app for three years I came away from that when renewal became expensive. After looking for a while I decided Hiiker provided everything and more for less cost so signed up. I have not been disappointed. It works well, is easy to use and I expect to be a long term user.

it's my go to depending on my mood. Sometimes I want something gentle and stress free and other times a challenge. Very clear and reliable

This is a great app. I use it with EastWest Maps wherever possible. Also have first-hand experience of their user support which was very good.

So far so good.. Would be cool if we could setup/organize group hikes/events in-app. Add a social aspect to make friends and meet new people, etc.

App looks fairly good but no trial option to checkout Pro options... other apps such as Outdoor Active, AllTrails and OSMaps offer trial options, hence will trial one of those out. If you do decide to do a trial then will give it a go.

As for me the app is useless, even the PRO+. If you want to plan your own route there is no info about ascent or descent, no elevation profile. I contacted the services but got no response.

good app with a good trail database. 5 stars would be if the filters page could be cleaned up (alphabetical at least) and would be great if it could work with galaxy watches

I'm still checking out the app however I will say it's done quite well. One improvement I would like to see implemented is to have a filter/overlay to differentiate bicycle paths from foot paths.

Hiiker is a dream on the trail the app is really easy to use and navigate. There are lots of pros to using the Hiiker app but the main one being lots of features that require subscription on other apps are free on Hiiker. The app also uses OSmaps, one of the leading the most trusted source of maps that provide meticulous attention to detail. I feel much safer on the trail using Hiiker as my navigation tool, i always download the offline maps for free and print backup maps for piece of mind.

Good features. On the subscription version, choice of maps, downloaded maps, ease of route planning, POI and measurement tool all helpful in planning a route. Fails on the accuracy of recording what you've actually walked in terms of route followed (plots straight lines), distance and time walked. Correct this and it would be 5 stars.

I have to say this is one of the best apps I've ever used for mapping, routing, exploring and planning. It's got so many little touches that make it stand out above and beyond the rest. I used to be loyal to OS maps (app) but I found them to be quite expensive and quite rigid in what you get, whereas this app - this company seem to be more in tune with what explorers need. Keep going guys you're doing absolutely brilliant, I will definitely recommend this in fact I have.

It's a great app, but it could still use some work on the interface. For example, it would be better if users could see all the trails when in map view. Currently, there are a few steps to get to that feature. Another suggestion is to allow direct editing and naming of waypoints while creating them. Another is to allow default setting to show all waypoints or my waypoints in map view without having to turn it on each time.

I'm fed up of the pop-ups asking me to rate. Rapid improvements. The printing is much better and you can now print out the premium maps on Chrome. There's still work to be done on the preview not showing reality. The resolution is quite poor at the moment, hopefully this will improve. This is similar on the app, again with a poor resolution. During the last couple of hikes, the app has not tracked my route. It had been reliable previously. There's just been an update, I'll test again tomorrow.

It feels like QI data scraping meets GPS. Everything about the app feels like it was vibe coded for fastest release, with "AI" chatbots comprising the majority of the app. Many of the Pro+ features are useless. For example, a point five miles away is listed as exactly five miles of hiking. Trail miles do not equate to "as the crow flies." That's worse than useless because it's misleading. The app has potential but is a complete waste of money in its current form.

I think I used this in Greece when hiking and it was useful, but I noticed that it clocks up distance and elevation when I'm not even moving, presumably due to inaccuracies in GPS positioning. So over a minute, it said I walked 270 feet and gained around 280 feet in elevation, even though I wasn't moving. Maybe the GPS receiver in a phone takes some time to acquire all satellites once the app is started or recording is selected. I need to do some more experiments.

The app worked fine for my hike in Scotland. The maps were clear and the height profile map was a nice feature. A nice addition would be if you could also see your location/progress on the height map. I would also prefer if it were possible to show all amenities on the map at the same time, or select which ones you would like to see, instead of just being able to select one categorie.
