Reviews for Homey — A better smart home

← Back to Homey — A better smart home

Bought a homey pro now that I bought my first house. Using it for radiator thermostats, some christmas lights on timers, my fire detectors and a ceiling light in my bedroom that turns on in the morning. Since it is so expensive, I was expecting the product and app to be of high quality and work well. I'm happy to say that it actually did meet my high expectations, the app especially feels very well designed and reliable.

Could not connect to my Sonos system, just went round in circles. Impossible to raise a support request, just went round in circles. Glad to have not just jumped in and bought the premium version. Update: Can't even delete the account as you have to delete you home first which just goes round in circles. Great idea but very poor execution.

It seems great to start with, but it's missing a few features that I would call basic. I expect the ability to be able to have an average of something. To be able to set up a variable, that averages out the data. That is something I can do with HA easily. I will update soon with more.

Thanks Homey, after following the exact descriptions for changing the wifi network (after getting new internet) the homey did it smoothly changed. Then 1min later, it went back in setup mode. I reconnected again, only to find out it reset completely. I lost all my flows and cannot seem to add the old zigbee devices anymore. Wow... So far I was impressed, but this is just horrible! 1 star so far from me...

Found it was much use for me, which is no problem. The major problem is trying to delete your account. They make it excessively difficult. You cannot just do it from the app because you end up an a loop of having to delete your homey first but then it signs you out and as soon as you sign in again you have no choice but to set up another honey. Eventually realised you can go to a Web address to sign out. Very poor and duplicitous.

Homey is a great platform, I have had it for a while. But the platform or app lacks the development that really get the most out of the hub. Basically for a year now the app has not changed yet. On the start page there is no possibility of showing the temperature for example you need to press the sensor and then you can see the value. I mean there is no great dashboard. The web app sucks, some features are still under development. I wonder for how long?

After Last Update If the app was in the background and opened again no updates in drivers happened. Also when I keep looking at the driver measurements for a time it also stops updating the screen.

app is good but reliability of ZigBee devices switching is poor

Who on earth figured that it would be a great idea to put white buttons on a white background, or black on black. If only I could get the old color background back in some way that would be a huge improvement in my user experience. Now I am struggeling to see whether or not anything is on or off. That leaves me only one option, the dark mode. There at least there is more of a difference (as in slghtly different shades of grey). Please make this better not worse.

Fake app.. If you create account, you cannot delete it.. They are trying to collect more people...

I had to get a commercial bridge to test a few things. This app has proven terrible until now. It does not connect to bridge unless location permission is given and Bluetooth is turned on and off once. To look for new devices, both Bluetooth and location must be active on the phone! It does not support Lidl devices. It fails to recognize a wired device from a floor higher while my dongle does that from basement!.. should have probably gotten SmartThings hub. I guess they want you to buy the Pro!

Requires a fee to back up configuration to cloud unless one is willing to perform a complex manual procedure. It's not acceptable that this is not clarified before purchasing the device! Amost everyone interested in home automation will have a reasonably complex setup requiring regular backups.

constant system power off and back on randomly, loss of control of features and smart devices... potential is there but not realized. already replaced power supply and cord, but same issue. support slow to respond, disappointed. also not as encompassing as advertised or anticipated with compatability, however smart device companies not helping with compatability and integrations.

using just homey cloud right now, but one very annoying bug is that when I link a new app and it's devices, say Philips hue, the first device I can link to a zone, but the remaining devices won't. keep taping on the zones and the app won't register.

Like any smart home hub, Homey is not a product. Homey is a torture device for the one person in the household that knows how to "fix" it. Only that it can never be fixed and always has new issues. Highly recommended if you are into cosplay and love the story of Sysiphos.

It's not there yet. I really want it to be a mature product but it's not. Super powerful automations without coding but lacking basic functionality for major brands. Also thinks user base doesn't want configurable units. If we picked a $400 device over smarthings hub at a fraction of the cost it is because of your advanced flows function. We can handle modifying the units in settings. I'm sticking around for now as they seem invested in developing and they are almost there.

Sooo it did take an hour of resetting the device, my phone, the wifi, Bluetooth etc to get this thing connected, but once it worked, this thing has been AMAZING. WAYYYY better than Smartthings and WAYYYY more reliable. So many options I don't even know where to start and it's already programmed to connect to my random stuff like IKEA and Switchbot. Thank you all!

Just doesn't work. Can't connect to any devices. Tried several. For example after trying to add my Philips Hue lights, after authenticating through the app it just takes me to the main Homey webpage and that's it. If I go back to the app it's stuck trying to connect and then fails. This same thing happens trying to connect any devices. I'm glad I found this out before shelling out for the very overpriced Homey Hub.

UPDATE: Bit the bullet and tossed down the large chunk of cash for Homey Pro. System is 100% better when everything works! I'm still learning the tougher areas of the programming but fully enjoying it so far. 1 star deduction for the massive price. "Try for free" is pretty much useless. All of the main online services/apps were all for Homey Pro only. Doesn't help me come to a decision on such an expensive ecosystem when I'm not able to even connect one thing to the app to begin with!

it is a pretty good app. not super intuitive as to how to get things connected, and the flows aren't necessarily as easy to setup as you might want them to be. and not all major devices are supported. also I've had several instances of it freezing or not letting me scroll far enough to put the device in thr right room. and lastly, might be a user error, but I couldn't find a way to add multiple devices to a room at once. so I had to go through every lightbulb individually.
