I'm thrilled with how much my 3 year old has learned and how quickly! We have the app and recieve monthly workbooks, my little boy loves it. He will come and get me to ask me if we can "play his school." My one interaction I've had with customer service was so smooth and easy, and very quickly resolved. Highly recommend!!!
My child really enjoyed the old version of this app. It was more colorful and easier to use. The new one is not saving his progress consistently which is very frustrating. It is also difficult to understand some of the words being spoken. Both my husband and I sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out what word he should be spelling. Overall the program itself has been great and my 5 year old is reading in the 2nd grade section. The new app though is disappointing.
This app sucks. Tried to cancel subscription and they said to log into the dashboard. When I tried, i couldn't log in. So I sent for a password reset and they never sent the email. So i checked the junk email and spam, and nothing. They make it difficult for you to end service. Good thing i was able to canceled through the play store.
I wish I would have looked at the reviews closer before purchasing. I've heard such great things about hooked on phonics but unfortunately the app doesn't work. It won't say the word he needs to spell, it freezes all the time (about once a min) where I need to shut the app down and restart, and it will say the word but won't allow him to complete the word as it gives the error sound. I spent $50 for an application that doesn't work. A little frustrating.
I purchased a Hooked on Phonics subscription for my son. He has autism and we started late, he was 7. Reading has been very difficult for him. We did a year and a half of just letter sounds and he was also held back in first grade. He was struggling so much I turned to HOP as a final push. I wish I would have started here! My son looked forward to playing on the app and also enjoyed the mailed material. He went from just spelling his name to actually reading. I am amazed! Would recommend!!
I decided to try hooked on phonics for $1.00 for the first month, and I'm waiting on the work books and stuff to come in the mail. So far the app has quite a few bugs that I've noticed, one is the new create an avatar feature, another issue is not being able to open settings or change my password from default password, and the interface could use a lot of work, will update review further into using this service.
I'll be honest. I used to think this was one big money scheme and that it was just effort on the kids part. Then I needed some kind of reading platform, I thought we'd be doing all the work. BUT it's fun for him. He loves doing it every day, there's variety, he gets "trophies". It requires very little effort on our parts other than for him to pay attention. IN ONLY 3 MONTHS of using it, he went from only being able to recognize the word "dog" to reading Green Eggs and Ham by himself! WORTH MONEY
Your app stinks!!!! I have had a subscription for a very long time. I finally decided to try out the app for my granddaughter. I've been trying to login/sign up, login/sign up, reset password, login/sign up, error, reset password, this email is already in use, reset password, sign in/error, on and on we go. There is no where I can click to get help.
The new version is awful. My daughter loved the old version and learned so quickly. She's in first grade and can read beyond second grade level. We were still going through hooked on phonics for practice and reinforcement. She's struggling with a lot of it because it's confusing and boring. It makes no sense. Why would you ruin an amazing and loved program? I think everyone who experienced the old version wants it back. It actually worked and kids wanted to do it. Please listen to us!
App keeps crashing on the math portion. Bought this for my kid to use. If we minimize the app, to try to come back to the same spot, we have to start all over unless we are working on the phonics specifically. The spelling portion does ok. It doesn't crash but won't stay open if the app is minimized. But the math portion is just ridiculous and the entire app crashes when we try to use it.
