I've used this app for years. For the most part I liked it. I purchased the pro version 2 years ago. When spending the money I expected more. Unfortunately that was not the case. The new update is even worse. While tracking myself in the woods I cannot use my phone for anything else or it stops tracking me. Also you cannot mark waypoints without stopping the track and then start a new one. After updating my info did not transfer to my laptop and had to start all over. I'm now looking at onx.
Reviews for HuntStand: GPS Maps & Tools
This is the worst app update I've ever experienced. Everything used to be so simple. The maps looked so clean. Now the icons are way too large and cartoon looking. I used to be able to do so much with one or two clicks that I'm now digging through menus for. Bring back the old huntstand. There was a reason I chose this over Onx, but it's now so bad that I'm going back to Onx. Not only is the new interface awful, but it changed the color of most of my trails and waypoints and deleted map outlines
First of all, the program uses Google Maps, which is terrible, and the graphics are terrible. All I received after creating a membership and looking through the tools was a series of notes outlining each item. No matter what I choose, for whatever reason, it stopped and allowed me to utilize the tools. My only guess is it was trying to get me to purchase the pro version! Now that the tools are working, I will check it out today, and “I’ll be back” with the skinny.
It would be 5 stars - except the new update has made it glitchy, slow loading, and often gets the compass wrong. The older version was spot on with navigating in the woods and now I find myself walking in circles often. Also, when you to mark "my location " the mark will pin 20-35 yards away from my exact location. Now, navigating the new app is confusing and sometimes overwhelming. We are hunting in the woods, we don't need anything fancy- we want it reliable and easy to use in the field.
As what others have said. Tracking is difficult to use now in the background. You will lose tracking if you try to do anything other than tracking yourself. Pinning and map layers are also difficult to navigate now and isn't the same as it used to be. I have been using the app since 2013. Now I will make the change to onX because huntstand has downgraded to an app not useful for hunting. I will only keep huntstand because I have all my spots in the app. Don't waste your time with huntstand !!!
I have been using huntstand for a lot of years and you have totally ruined it for me. It used to be so easy to use and didn't constantly want you to turn on my location. No means No, I don't want my location turned on unless I need it to be on to save a location. The wind direction completely sucks, marking locations suck. Give me my old Huntstand back or I'm done paying for this app. I have used Onx for years also and always preferred huntstand until now. You suck now!!!
Up until the last update, it used to be a good app. But apparently, some braindead moron decided to "improve it" Now, when you are on the edge of your cell phone reception, it takes FOREVER to use it because it keeps trying to pull up the weather b4 anything else. In addition, the "turn on location" popup just keeps coming up, just in case it wasn't taking FOREVER. OBNOXIOUS INFURIATING! And all of the markers now are about 4 times larger, so they cover up everything. FIRE THAT PROGRAMER!
almost useless! after big update app sometimes doesn't show markers. direction indicator never seems to work. when placing a marker at my location, the marker is sometimes 100 yds away!? My position marker jumps around constantly. Really wish they would either dix the app or roll it back to the earlier version.
This used to be a great alternative to OnX. It was very user friendly without too many demands. Finding tools like distance markers and property info were a breeze. However, since they have re-vamped the app, it is very difficult to maneuver through, the maps consistently re-zero on one of your hunt areas instead of where you were trying to look before. The most annoying thing for me now is the location icons that pop up 3 at a time. You have to close them out one by one.
I've been using HuntStand for several years. This used to be a phenomenal app before they 'updated' it, adding so much unnecessary fluff to the basic mapping features they once had. When the updates took place, I lost several of my saved hunting areas, which equated to hours upon hours of boots-on-the-ground scouting I'll never get back. Customer support told me they're "looking into it, and we'll be in contact"....and that was 6 months ago. I haven't heard anything from them.
