Botched. MacMillan has an atrocious reputation for releasing software that is blatantly broken. This app tells me I'm not in class when I've been sitting in class for 10 minutes. Every time a question changes, it endlessly buffers and the app needs to be restarted. If you enter an answer, sometimes it endlessly buffers and needs to be restarted. Every time I get into the class page, the "Join" button often doesn't appear for a minute or more. I'm a beta tester at my grades' expense.
Reviews for iClicker Student
← Back to iClicker StudentThis is yet another nearly useless overpriced college expense just to mark yourself for attendance and participate in class. This app is incredibly slow; half the time it doesn't even load the random problems profs decide to put out - just shows a loading icon then records as "no response", which negatively affects your grades directly. Somehow this app feels more archaic than just screaming out "here" or the answer.
Probably one of the worst apps I've ever had to use for college, continuous issue of my answers not registering, and it saying I chose a different answer than I actually did. Another problem ive had, as well as many of my classmates, is the issue of it saying I answered something on my end, but my teacher sees nothing. I have almost have been dropped from classes who use this app for attendance because it barely functions. If you want to make people dread your class, this is the app.
Nearly every time I've used this app, I have connectivity issues, and it costs me points as I spend time trying to force stop the app in order to get it to work again instead of answering clicker questions. I've also had this experience with the browser version and the app at the same time. The only solutions I found was force stopping or reinstalling the app. If there is another way to get the app to work again that takes less time, I'd like to know. Edit: still having issues months later
Absolute scam. Makes the app seem free with an automatically activated free trial that cancels without warning a few weeks into your course and forces you to pay a ridiculous amount of money for what's basically a worse version of kahoot.
absolutely horrible app, will kick you out mid-session and occasionally will not show you your classes
it does affect my grade. Whenever I tried to sign in, it always shows that there is no wifi connection. Worst app ever !
I was double charged for the subscription, and the customer support is now ignoring me. extremely frustrating, I just want my money back.
terrible. doesn't work, fails all the time, most devices I've used fail to function and my department just told me to get another device. Forcing people to use this app is borderline evil.
extremely unreliable regardless of Internet connection. also just doesn't refresh while "in" the class sessions. it doesn't help that teachers can't seem to figure out how to use it.
Absolutely godawful app, 0/10 experience using it every single time. Miss out on points due to connectivity issues and weird glitches. Don't know how universities are still forcing students to use this poor excuse for an app. Do not enroll in any course that uses iClicker.
My entire class had perpetual issues with connection. Everybody lost points on quizzes from time to time because of connection issues. The professor said there is zero chance that he will ever be using iClicker again, but sadly that will bring back neither the points I lost nor the money I paid for a subscription. Also, I paid $15 for a 6 month subscription to an app I could have written myself in an hour. This company knows that the students who pay for their app have no choice.
One of the WORST paid apps I've ever used. It is constantly buggy when you use it, and ruins participation grades for your class. The app constantly freezes completely, or completely is unresponsive when you submit your answer and nothing is submitted, or just doesn't detect you're in the right building when you're right there in class. This is not remotely the quality I expect for something that is paid.
Up until the most recent update, I have had no problems with the app at all. Now with the latest update, even though I am connected to both the internet and have my location turned on, the app repeatedly keeps telling me to turn my location on (even though it already is) and does not allow me to join my class because it cannot determine my location.
app is buggy as hell. i can't keep the phone screen on all the time, if it automatically shuts off after 2 minutes of being idle it ""has trouble reconnecting"" and i have to close the app and start it up again and rejoin the class, often leading to missing questions, and affecting my participation. also, paying for this is such a scam lol
If you are going to make an app that has the ability to affect a college student's grade, you need to ensure it works 100% of the time without error. I have lost points and therefore received a lower grade than I should have because I could not enter my answer. Either due to being kicked out of the session and having to re-enter the college and class, or the question not showing up on my screen (at all or delayed, which does not allow me enough time to read and answer the question).
Honestly this is a paid app with a ridiculous cost $15 for 6 months. When there are so many free options, such as: Kahoot, quizlet, quizzez, zoom polling, a Canvas quiz. Very poor app that feels like my $150 loose leaf textbook that is so thin it rips when you flip pages with it in a 3 ring binder, that wasn't included. If I could I would never use this app but I was forced to spend money to get a grade.
The Page sometimes takes so long to load that I miss the question given by the professor. I've had an issue with my iclicker account as half of my points went missing and there were 2 accounts under my name. I contacted them on September 21st and still no solution to my problem, all I get back is " I am looking into this with my engineers (they are investigating)".
I tried to log in after setting up my info, but it says my password or email was wrong. Okay. I try to reset my password. They send a link to my email. I click, put in the password, and press submit. They say the link is expired. According to the app, the links are supposed to expire in 3 hours, and no matter how quick I submit a password, they say that the link is expired. Can't do anything but hope the issue is fixed soon.
I see tons of reviews complaining about connection issues, but I have a newer phone and never had connection or lag issues. This app might SEEM free to download, but it's just a free trial. A 6 month subscription was $15 for me. I'm giving it 3 stars because the app works and does what it says it does, but it's not worth paying for. There's nothing innovative or spectacular about it, it's just "meh". A professor/teacher could accomplish the same thing with a different, and free, app or site
