So here's my take on Japan Travel–Trip,Transit&Rail. I've tested a bunch of Japan travel apps and this one's probably one of the most comprehensive. The route planning and transit info is really useful, and I like that it has those cultural tips written by locals. Compared to some other options, the design isn't the sleekest, but it gets the job done. I'd say it's a must-have if you're visiting Japan and want to navigate like a pro.
