Reviews for LineLearner

There are a few things you may need to do, to make this work. If the recording using the default settings doesn't work, change it to the old format, that should give a better playback volume. Also, if you have a headset with mic, use that to record, so you can have the phone on the table whilst reading the script and pressing the buttons, as it can get messy trying to do it all on your lap. But once you've got around that niggle, the app works as described and I'm very happy with it.

Very weird interface, and it flat refuses to record most of the time, or cuts off the first 3 seconds of each line. Trouble shooting using the instructions helped (try turning off "high quality audio) but then it showed error codes. When I got in touch with the suggested email address for help, they never replied (Oct 2022, and now again Oct 2023).

I'm so frustrated with this app. I've been using it a lot. However, I can not figure out how to delete a recorded line. This is very inconvenient especially if I accidently record a line and want to delete it later on, my only option is so far to doubt over all the other lines right after that one line and therefore re-record the from there on ??? Why is this so complicated?! Also to move lines I have to scroll all the way up, push the love button and the. It needs to be more intuitive

Came back to this app after a couple of years. User interface is so, so confusing. Had to have a play to try and work out how to do what I wanted. When I finally got that done and started playing my recordings back, it was very quiet despite my sound being turned right up. Easier to use default voice recorder.

I can hardly hear anything on my samsung s9 even with head phones and my volume maxed out and the setting turned on for samsung and pixel phones. There isn't an easy way to skip back or ahead on lines. When I try to open the full instructions I get an error message saying the page is missing, same with the FAQs page. So far very unimpressed.

Best ap I've found for rehearsing lines. It will play back in multiple voices, and editing recordings is quick and easy. The multitude of playback options (leave gap for your line, play it after gap) makes it perfect for use in whatever phase you are in the learning process.

I very much appreciate this app; it really does enable line practice in several very effective ways. That said, the interface is a bit clunky, and I would definitely prefer that the "prompt" button toggle the prompt--i.e. start and stop/reset the prompt instead of starting/restarting the prompt--because I often want to hear only the first few words, but there's no simple way (that I've been able to divine) to simply stop the prompt once it's playing. Still, a very valuable tool, thank you!

This is a fabulous App with a Fairly Steep Learning Curve. You can't beat this app for the price, but learning how to use it requires some effort on your part. For best results, read the online documentation and watch the available YouTube videos. Also, start with a very short scene (or even part of a scene) to get a feel for how the app works before attempting anything major. Once you have entered the script, this app shines!

Not really usable, would not have bought this app if I had had a trial of 15 minutes with it. Interface is unintiutive, online instructions are lacking and seem to have been last updated when Google+ was still active and relevant, and the capabilities don't seem to be there (whether they are there and hard to find, or simply not there, I don't know).

Could be more useful. I used to be able to drive for a while and run my lines, but now it keeps pausing at random points when running in the background, and I can't switch from maps for the app to keep playing while I'm driving. If that was fixed, and a few UX improvements, it would be the perfect companion app for actors.

Great app, I use it for learning all my lines! And an option has been added to allow louder recording volume on Samsung phones, something I had an issue with previously. Nice job guys! There is, however, one bug that is quite prominent and gets in the way: when my phone goes asleep while learning lines, the lines will stop playing at random and I'll have to wake my phone to get them to play again. Not huge, but it happens a lot and becomes very annoying after a while. Any chance of a fix?

Used it for years. Quickest way to learn lines as an actor. Lots of functionality to vary how the lines are delivered to you (speed, length of gap etc) which enable you to progress from not knowing them, through "training wheels", to being fluent. No better feeling walking on set than knowing you've done multiple line runs at speed, speaking the words aloud to another voice. Highly recommend.

As a very first timer picked in a show in my 50,s, i panicked when wondering how to learn lines. This app was the best money I have ever spent. So easy to use. I was able to go fishing, walking, driving, and more whilst rehearsing the lines over and over to myself. Turned out i was the only one in the production who didn,t need prompts! Had quite a lot of lines to.m learn in 3 acts. Others in the theatre group have latched onto this app as a result. Totally great app. Thanks.

Not recommended - on the basis that the time for your recorded lines is much faster, which is a big problem when you have long lines. E.g. my line takes 12s to deliver and I record it that way, but when I play back for learning purposes, it only gives me 7s. I'm constantly re-recording my lines to guess what the time gap will actually give me. Meanwhile, the speed meter only adjusts the speed of your co-stars' lines, not yours. Interface isn't great as others have said, you get used to it but...

This app is so useful! I use it every time I need to learn lines and have recommended to various other actors. I particularly like the simplicity of recording my lines and "everyone else's". Also, the range of ways to play back my lines when learning and ability to change the speed. My tip is to put on another voice when you're reading everyone else's lines so you can easily distinguish between them when it's playing back both yours and theirs, otherwise it can get confusing.

Too hard to correct mistakes. You have to press play for each line, so it won't be useful while driving.

Could this app be "better?" Sure. But once you play with it enough, you find all the wonderful tools it includes, it's unreplaceable. I've been using this app for 8 YEARS and over that time, it's gotten better every time. It gets bug fixes, they take feedback seriously, and above all, it does the job I need it to do. I love this app.

needs improvement , you start the app, start playing a script, and then switch to another app so line learner runs I the background... and after 20 seconds it stops. do you have to open the app and give it exclusive use. and it keeps playing even when your headphones are not connected

The worst app ever. It is not user friendly. If you have like a month to leisurely go through all the videos. It probably won't be as bad. But this is impossible to use without heavy learning required. Just save yourself the time, headache and money and figure out another way. I could import my script but it doesn't help at all. This thing is just such a mess

I purchased this app about two years ago and I love it. I am in my third year at college as a theatre major and I would not be able to get everything done without this app. Twice now, I have stepped into a show super last minute (1-2 weeks before opening) and this app has helped me to get off book in about 2 days. I'm sure with more frequent use I would be able to do it even quicker. As my roommate says, I "swear by it." I use the app to learn my lines for every show I'm in as well as scenes for class, and it makes learning lines super easy. I have not been able to figure out how to import a script, but I find that speaking the lines to record them helps me learn them even faster, although it is a little time consuming to get the app set up for each new scene or show.
