Great map application, I've been using the previous version for years and found it absolutely dependable. I appreciate it works with the phone in flight mode, saving battery and preventing most phone distractions, and the absence of any gamification, social network or any addictive features makes it pleasant to use while enjoying the outdoors. The maps include many official hiking and biking routes as well as campings and groceries. Recent addition of cloud sync is a huge plus. Worth every euro.
Reviews for Locus Map 4 Outdoor Navigation
← Back to Locus Map 4 Outdoor NavigationI've used the previous version for years. I love OSM and I see the value in optimized LoMaps, they render faster and more reliably than the competition. So I'm happy to pay regularly for the effort and infrastructure required to support that. BUT, I am NEVER going to pay a *subscription* to remove ads. It's cheap but it doesn't matter. It represents everything I hate about software. I want to use Locus Map 4 and am willing to pay subscriptions but I will never pay a subscription to remove ads.
Top rate map app that I will use for walking. I have bought the annual subscription because it's so reasonably priced but the free version is very fully featured. It does involve a steep learning curve but well worth making the effort. It's packed with configurable options and extremely powerful. I would like to have an easy way to switch between the standard map and satellite view to help me with route planning, like selecting a shady route.
I only switched from classic version V3 reluctantly, but I have to admit that version V4 is really good. Usage is smoother and the interface more modern.
Maps don't load, unreliable. Some map file sizes are too large to download or function properly. It has too many technical issues to mention, but don't rely on it, it will drop you in it at the worst time.
I've been a locus maps user for over 10 years. They are ending support for the best mapping app of all time (Locus 3 Classic). I paid for that app and spent lots of money on maps. now they are replacing it with a terrible app (Locus 4) that doesn't do anything without a subscription. The locus 4 interface is also worse in every way especially when trying to use it out of signal. There is no way to buy it, only rent. horrible business model. A once good company has gone fully scummy.
auto login through Google is not working for the android mobile app. on and off i keep getting authentication failure popups. with so much of heavy manual setup around offline maps download etc, it is very difficult to uninstall and start from scratch again.
Compared to Locus Map Pro (Classic) this app is a step back in user friendliness. Clunky UI, takes me more taps to go to my tracks as I must first go through main library. Browsing an identical offline map and theme is a lot slower in response. Clearly the upgrade in performance promised and deemed the reason for version 4 is a straight out lie. Features I had available in Pro Classic are now pay walled behind a premium subscription. Still three stars though because feature set is extensive.
Amazing app, has no match. Huge further potential. I'm using it for my business to deliver leaflets and make sure I'm not walking on the same streets twice. I save each path recording in a new track/file. Then, I can display multiple tracks(let's say, for each day of work) to make sure I don't walk there again. You can hide and unhide different tracks as you wish(and colour them differently too), like layers in Photoshop. The interface seems a bit outdated but great app! I bought the pro.
I bought Locus Maps Pro (btw, thank you for a good product), and then it turns out that, for example, the additional function of synchronization with a smart watch that I need is only available in Locus Maps 4. But it is not sold separately, let's get a subscription. Even if you need maps once every half a year. I realize we live in 2021, and subscriptions are popular now, even for some rudimentary notepad. But give at least the option to buy the program as it is, at least without updates.
Be aware if you use Android 14,I have bought the premium gold, and their new version 4.30.1 has crashed on my phone, made many attempts, reinstall , clearing cash, lost my tracks, still not running. Have tried to reach support with email, no answer, by Facebook they have blocked messages... totally frustrated 😠
My absolute most favorite app on the phone and the only one I'm paying for. I nearly use it for everything I do outdoors (hiking, Canyoning, biking, Kajaking, Geocaching, Lost Places, Traveling...) I'm using Locus since probably around 10 years. I really like all the functions it has to offer (which obviously is sometimes not that easy). Luckily there are some improvements from time to time. Hopefully you'll stay as great as now or even better :)
I don't like the subscription. I'm coming from Locus Map Pro, which has no advertising and no subscription. I don't have a reason to change because the new app has advertising, and for essential data, I need to pay for a subscription. No, thank you.
this app is awesome, but the export file contains photos or attachments that are very large, it's better when it can be compressed.
No reasonable maps. WOW, bought the Locus map for Georgia (country) and it all is unreadable in Georgian! What they show you before you pay has an English transliteration, but what you get has none! Scam.
This app is an example why I will never ever buy an app in the future, at least not from this developer. 1. Nothing is wrong with this app. I like the v. 3 since 2013 (I think) but now will be discontinued, and to pay at least 9,99€ a year for Dynamic Elevation and Map Shading which is free in v. 3 is dirty business, because we already pay 4 times a year for maps update (not only for one country).🤷🏻♂️ And now we even got adds, paying for maps is not enough money...
Ive been trying to use this app to navigate between two GPS points without success, for a long time! It regularly prompts me to download additional data to be able to use the navigation feature, of course agreeing to download said data changes nothing, the prompt reappears each time. I have not once successfully used it. This should be so much simpler and easier!
I've used most every GPS/mapping program out there and can easily say this is my favorite. The ability to import maps, tracks and POIs is excellent! Love being able to add a POI with a key press and love being able to make a photo POI easily! If you don't love this program, you haven't spent enough time using its many features.
I've been using Pro for years and just switched to Locus Maps 4 Gold Subscription. The price is definitely a little high, but I'm impressed so far and I do like to support outdoors app development. The website is nice. Synchronization of tracks is great. I'm still trying to figure out the offline LoRouter. It does seem to work offline, but I'm not sure what areas I have downloaded. That part is a little confusing.
Very full-featured navigation and map software that has a lot of options even in the free version. I was primarily interested in the track recording ability of this app. There it is a little disappointing. It is able to record tracks, and you can set up different profiles for different activities so that you get accurate tracks. Lots of stats on the tracks recorded. But the UI is unnecessarily complicated, and you can only add way points as the track is being recorded, not add way points to an existing track. There is also no ability to find details of specific points on the track (distance from beginning or end, time visited, coordinates, etc.)
