Doesn't even work anymore; never an internet connection for data or wireless, took my money for a subscription, and they will not refund me after reaching out many times, and taking days to reply. fix the damn app, or don't waste your time. used to be one of my favorite apps of all time, now it doesn't work correctly and it takes your money. what a shame!
Reviews for Magic Piano by Smule
← Back to Magic Piano by SmuleGreat app, I have loved the piano for a while and this is a simple alternative. My only problem with this app is it is WAY too hard to earn Smoola, in-game currency. You only gain 1-2 Smoola per achievement, and only 1 upon leveling up. Most songs cost 25 or 50, making it incredibly hard to get new songs without becoming VIP. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
games fun, when it let's you play it. a lot of songs are boring. yes, there's so many songs on there and lots of options but you have to pay for it of course. there is a wide selection of songs but you have to watch ads to play them. most of the time, I accept the ad it wants to show me but nothing plays.
I've been playing this for a long time and I recently came back to play again. Lots of changes for sure, but still frustrating to unlock new songs. I resorted to subscribing to the VIP thing just to play the newer songs and it's not too bad, but I probably won't keep it much longer since I don't play often enough to justify the price. One thing I'm having issues with is I can't connect my Facebook with it. The button doesn't seem to work at all lol.
Fun to play and has all your favorite songs. Only problem is if you really want to have your favorite songs I'd recommend doing in app purchases because the offers don't tend to work well and you only get 1 or 2 smoola's(what you buy songs with) each time you level up. I wish there were higher and better rewards when leveling up. I also wish that they would put more free songs to play so you wouldn't have to wait a few days to level up. I just hope things change to make it more enjoyable.
Won't let me play anything due to no connection despite having a connection. Also, expensive but fun when it used to work. For $4.99 a month I'd like to see some new features added. I wish there was a way to filter songbook to see which ones I haven't played/haven't gotten full stars for/etc. Would also like to be able to save my favorites.
I used to have an iPhone and LOVED this app. Spent a lot of time perfecting songs. Recently switched to android and the app is a lot different, has literally no options in the settings, and when I logged into my account NONE of my songs or achievements switched over. Which is super frustrating since it should be the same account. I've never left an app review before but felt compelled to do so with this. Hopefully they update it to be more like the iPhone app.
Lately I have been running into issues with a lot of notes throughout multiple songs not playing properly, I do have fun with the game but when I can't hear a note I just lose interested in the song. Other than that, great game. Decided to give this game a try 4 years since my last review, extremely laggy to the point that I can't enjoy the game since the sound from the notes is delayed and off tune from what you would expect from your tap, -1 star due to this issue persisting.
I like the game, but I have a few problems with it. First of all, there are abnormal amounts of advertisements. And second, almost every. Single. SONG. Requires at least 25 "smoola" (coins) to even play! This wouldn't be such a problem for me if smoola weren't next to impossible to get. The only way you can get them is by getting achievements and leveling up. If the creators fix the smoola issue, then my rating would definitely increase.
*Preview of songs and their gameplay are not the same. Just compare preview and gameplay of "Like My Father by Jax" for example, and it's not about one or two songs, it's general. The problem is about tempo and spacing between notes. Please fix it so gameplay can guide to play realistically like preview. *When u use search, there's no songs from "my songs" section between search results. Please fix it. Thanks.
The app is fun, I used to play it all the time years ago. My problem is how greedy the system is for accessing songs now. There were tons of free songs you could access with ads, but now everything cost a minimum of 25 in game currency (each of which you only get 1 every time you level up). And even then you can't even buy the currency on its own, you have to buy a membership! It's not that I can't afford the membership, but it's a grimy money making tactic.
This used to be the funnest game to play years ago. It had so many songs for free to play, a variety around 100 in fact! Its changed into an app that has made even the older free songs cost money/in-game money. The in-game money by the way is very difficult to save. Now impossible even with the amount of free songs available. This used to be a 5 star app even with its purchases back then. Now it seems to have gone way overboard. Sorry smule, you've done disappointed a long time customer.👎
It's decent. Fun concept, and the user made songs are good. My main complaint is that the songs aren't synced to their original tempo. If you play the song at the correct speed you get a bad grade. Just watch the demo and you will see all the long pauses for songs that would be missed notes. Also the paywall is annoying but if you just do one of the offers where you play a crappy game for a week and get a bunch of money you won't need to spend a dime.
2 stars because it's a fun game, but it doesn't unlock enough songs for you, or reward you in a way that is easy to advance. You can try getting "free" smula, but it never works and more often than not you're going to have to throw in real money to get anything to play unless you're happy playing the same songs 40x in a row. This game just isn't worth it.
I saw an ad of this on YouTube probably 3 years ago, and it seemed pretty cool. It's certainly not the worst mobile game, but I don't like how it doesn't let me watch videos for smule coins anymore. Also, when people buy a song you upload, it should give the creator some smule coins. Lastly, this game advertises (or used to) being able to pick the speed you play at, but it gives you worse scores for that. One of the joys of real piano is playing it as you please, it's a shame this won't do that.
Used to play this game all the time and get free songs. After level 12, you have to buy the subscription or the smoola coins because they no longer give you free songs, and the cost of each song is too high to earn without paying for them.. I've played this game since 2016, and I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with how it turned out. For now, I will be uninstalling, and unless you want to pay for this game, I would not recommend it.
Used to love this game, unfortunately it no longer works properly as I often have one note left floating after pressing a 3 or 4 finger note. I've tested it many times now and it's definitely an issue with the game, I will press 3 fingers confirmed on a yellow, triple note, and more than half the time one note is left there as if the game isn't properly reading my fingers or the amount I press on the screen. It's so frustrating and disappointing because this was a great game and I missed it.
Loved this game as a kid, I have no real issues with this game now, except for a few things. First of all, it doesn't seem to have any active servers, or should I say, this app is minimally (if at all) managed. The free songs RARELY update and there are no offers to get Smula/Smoola so you can actually get something new. Sure, they do keep adding songs and there are active players, however I'm still unable to earn anything and I shouldn't have to pay real money for new songs.
I really, really liked this app. That was about 7 years ago on my iPod touch 4th gen. I had lots of songs that I didn't have to pay for, so it didn't matter if I had the VIP pass or not, but that iOS stopped being supported and I couldn't access the app. I was happy to find it again recently, but it seems like the only way to play much music is to pay kind of a lot or play whatever few free songs they give you. Really fun, sounds great, sad that it costs so much to really enjoy like I used to.
Years ago, the notes traveled at a consistent pace, and would only speed up or slow down if the pace at which you played sped up or slowed down. This was an ideal system! That is no longer the case. EDIT: a year and a half later, as well as a report to Smule support, and nothing has changed. Any rests longer than a quarter note speeds the next note to you at maximum speed, forcing you to either play the song incorrectly or take a points penalty.
