So here's my honest take on Magic: The Gathering Companion. I've tested a bunch of event and tournament apps, and this one's pretty solid overall. The core features work well - joining events, tracking your matches, seeing standings, etc. It's not the most polished app I've used, but it gets the job done. The life counter is a nice touch too. The main downside is that it can be a bit confusing to navigate at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty straightforward. If you're a regular Magic player, this is worth having in your toolkit.

Pros

  • Tons of strategic depth without being overwhelming
  • Graphics look great and run smooth on older phones
  • Free to play, don't need to spend money to enjoy it
  • Good way to connect with local Magic community
  • Life counter is a convenient built-in feature

Cons

  • UI can be a little clunky and unintuitive at first
  • Joining events can be confusing if you don't know how
  • Gets repetitive after a while if you're not into the core gameplay loop

Been using Magic: The Gathering Companion for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you join and participate in Magic: The Gathering events at your local game store. Pretty solid if you’re into that kind of thing.

Here’s what you do: you can find nearby events, join them by entering a code, and then it keeps track of your matches and standings. There’s also a life counter built-in, which is pretty convenient. And you can even create your own events at home to play with friends – took me a while to figure that out but it’s a cool feature.

Look, if you’re into Magic: The Gathering and going to local tournaments, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the UI can be a little clunky at times – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want an easy way to manage your Magic events.

Not as robust as online searches. The advanced search is really lacking in filter options, and it makes it almost unbearable to use. When I look up cards online, it'll...

This is useful for joining in-store events, and it has a decent life tracker. The cards search function is useless. I've reached out to the developers, but they felt it...
