Updates have killed this app. I can't even log on now. My phone is connected via wifi but the app tells me I'm disconnected. When I try to reconnect, it just hangs. The service gets worse every year. Latest on 6/20/20 - when you download from the Google play store and try to sign on, there is an error message that says this app is incompatible with Android! Now I can't even sign in. That's my subscription down the toilet!
Reviews for magicApp Calling & Messaging
← Back to magicApp Calling & MessagingI was forced to upgrade to this version. After I upgraded, I couldn't login the new app. I called customer service about the issue, but a live person wasn't available. I was forwarded through several prompts to troubleshoot the issue. I've been using MagicJack consistently for 3 years. It is a now a piece of junk, cause I can no longer, talk/ text and have lost access to my contacts.
I will not be renewing my service when it expires. I can't check voicemail. If someone calls once I answer it disconnects. If I make a call it works for a little while then disconnect. I can only text to someone already in my contacts, can't add a new number. Can't receive text unless I send one out first. Customer service chat is horrible and keeps saying its my internet but I have no other issues on any other devices I own and I have one of the highest speeds.
I definitely do not like the new app. After having the previous app for years, I was always able to choose which of my Magicjack numbers to logon to. Now that choice is gone and I can only use one number. I haven't seen anything new or improved with this version so I have to ask why they changed it if it wasn't broken. Looks like another "new coke" fiasco. Update Nov 5. After using the app a little more, it's actually a lot worse than I thought. The ring for incoming calls is now the same as my phone's ring. So without it being distinctive, I can't tell which one is ringing. The blue color of the dial pad is gone and it is basic white. Again, just like my phone's so it's hard to distinguish between the two. The worst thing now is the red exclamation mark (with the old app) whenever there was a connection problem is gone. There is now no way of knowing if the app is really connected/working or not. It is only when I go to make a call and the message "Wait! Call is on progress" spins endlessly. Not even proper English as it should say "Call is IN progress". I have to close the app and reopen it and then it works again. So without any indicator, I never know if I'm missing calls or not. It boggles the mind how this is actually supposed to be an improved version. It actually deserves less than one star. This all needs to be fixed or at least bring back the old app as an option!
The concept of great, the price is awesome. But I occasionally have my calls dropped without losing signal. And when I have a notification on my screen, if I swipe to dismiss the notification, the app opens. This is really frustrating when it's a voicemail. Because the the app opens and starts calling the voicemail automatically. Fix these two things and it's easily a five star. I decided to reduce the rating to two stars because these issues still aren't resolved.
Whenever I get a phone call, about a minute into the conversation, the other person cannot hear me for about 10 seconds which makes them think the call has dropped. It does this constantly and for all calls. I can hear them but they cannot hear. Missing option to change call ringtone. Works as it should though, minus being able to change the ringtone in the app. Setting one in Android causes the default to ring and cease when you answer it, and the one you set to keep going off during the call.
The companion app is a really nice feature, with 2 issues. First, it is definitely a bummer that it is limited to one phone or tablet per account. I was hoping to be able to let my son use it on his tablet, for emergency calls, while I was still able to receive calls when away from home. Unfortunately not. The other issue with the app is that the texting option, without fail, sends every outgoing text twice. I can deal with the single device quirk, but the double texting needs to fixed.
It's used to be a great application, but due to numerous upgrades the SMS text messaging stopped working. After you select "Enable SMS" within the app, the SMS feature never becomes available to you, no matter how long you wait... Their support web site says up to 5 minutes... BS. Never becomes available... Tried this on a number of different Android devices with the same result. So when they say that the texting feature is free to use -- beware, it is simply non-existent.
The app kind of works, I can make calls and see when someone is calling. Sadly, the caller ID shows up maybe 1 out of 4 times. If I get a voice-mail notification, it either hangs up after 2 seconds or I get in, but none of the keys function, so I can't check it. I was really happy to get back the features xfinity got rid of a few years ago, but they just don't work most of the time.
Once installed and set up, you can never change to a new/different MagicJack account on the same phone, ever. Not even with a hard reset. Also says in the description that you can use email and SMS. However there is nothing in the app that allows either. No instructions, and nothing available on their website. Finally, after 4 years, they added a delete past calls button!
Been using it for years, but this new update has sent it from 5 to 1 star. Freezes after a call is answered from a handset and shows accept/decline untill you close the app, app closes at random ( you are not aware) and you miss calls. Often after receiving a message the app freezes., You no longer can depend on the app. Some times the app rings, but the handset does not ring in. Please fix the app! I agree with others. Distinguish the ring tone!!! Block calls from app would be nice.
I gave this 3 stars because while you are in the app, it works excellently. If you get out and open another app, the other person cannot hear you. Also if you log into another device, you get kicked out almost instantly. I have had Magic Jack for over 10 years. The app used to be way better. They should atleast allow you to store your password so that you don't have to enter it each time. If app sharing between family members is a big concern, they can block sharing between countries.
There is a bug in the app. Every few days I cannot make or receive calls and when trying to make a call get an error message: "Wait! A call is on progress" - BTW should be "in progress". I have to log out and back in. Would also be nice to switch between numbers when the user has purchased more than one for the main device.
Ugh, the app is horrible. People on the other end can't hear me, phone cuts out. I have high speed data, yet the app can't handle calls. I use this for work and it's extremely unprofessional. Also, the app won't let you forward calls to a different number which I hoped would improve call quality. Please fix MJ!!
It was free used it to keep in contact with family while I was deployed in Afghanistan. Now it's false advertising unless you buy and register a magicjack product it will not even let you go past the login. So if you don't own other magicjack stuff don't even bother to waste your time downloading. Wish they would state that in their description, some sort of disclaimer instead of playing the click bait game just to get download numbers and seem good on the books. When in reality you download, find you have to buy something else and uninstall it.
I just had to reactivate my number and now when I try and do my login it reports that it is invalid email address or password. I verified them both by logging out of the website and retyping it over. I also uninstalled the app and re-downloaded it from Play. I tried all caps and all lower case letters also for the email address and both fail. Same for using a browser on my mobile phone.
App is buggy and unpredictable! I often can't return a missed phone call from the recent calls list. It randomly gets hung up while trying to make a call. Texts show up out of order and images don't come through. And it's impossible to use the text feature for 2FA because the texts won't show up until hours later! As soon as I can find another reasonably priced option, I'm switching because it's too unreliable for business use.
I've had the app for a few years but since the beginning of the year, I have not been able to: 1. Receive calls 2. Make calls 3. Check my voicemail 4. The app doesn't ring to alert you about incoming calls I have tried many times to get the issue resolved and the reps from "technical support" all tell me to uninstall and install the app again and again, expecting a different result. There's no customer service, and I simply detest the app at this point.
The app is very unreliable when it comes to incoming calls. Sometimes it will ring in the middle of the night even though my phone is on Do Not Disturb mode. Other times it does not ring at all and just shows that I missed a call. I often force stop and restart the app because it freezes and fails to let me make and receive calls. When I am on a call, there is always a point where the person at other end cannot hear me. Switching to speakerphone seems to fix that. It is quite frustrating.
Attemted call to me poped up on my phone, but no audio notification and pressing the answer button didn't work - common concern. So I attempted to call back and my audio was not heard. Hung up and retried again -- the call was flawless. All the while I had strong wifi signal and high speed. This was a call from the US to the Philippines initially and in the other direction twice. Because of that, I give 3 stars. Free apps like Whatsapp work better. Magic Jack needs to step up it's investment
