I've been using Mango for nearly 10 years through my library. I could not recommend it more. I compare it to Pimsleur, which I also enjoy, but with the addition of reading, and of being able to easily re-do certain pieces you had trouble with. I've also seen constant improvements and tweaks throughout the years, GREAT JOB, MANGO!
Reviews for Mango Languages Learning
Not only teaches you the language, but also gives you cultural insights as well. Also, takes time to explain why you say the phrases the way they are! I did this program when it was for PC only and loved it then, I was thrilled to see it was released as an app! What is also great is that it focuses on you actually speaking the words in the language, so that you are saying it out loud, and repeating it. You can also record and play back your voice to see if your pronunciation is correct.
The app is very simple. I'd say it's lacking in features. It'd be nice to at least have an option to type the answers. That being said, the app teaches really well. I feel I've progressed in Korean much faster than I have when I used other apps. I was legitimately surprised how fast I felt I was improving, and how easy it was. It also teaches very useful sentences. Nothing strange like "Don't eat the bed" that you can find in other apps.
Just an ok app. I've been speaking Spanish for over 20 years, and the placement always puts me at the start (level 1). But it's because that's not how real people speak. I came here to improve my grammar, which is lacking, but because of level 1, I get bored since I already know the basics. It is also incorrect on some things I've come across. For example, 'nice to meet you' has many options, but the most common is 'fue un placer' or 'encantado'. Neither were options.
I'm doing the Russian course, and this seems to be much better than Duolingo, though I've just started using this app. I've got a gripe, though, about the recording feature where you match your voice with a native speaker. No matter what I do, it puts a massive pause in the beginning of my recording so it's out-of-sync with the recording I'm supposed to emulate. Really frustrating, and hope it gets fixed. Edit: Figured it out, have to scroll the recording to the side. Really weird.
So far, I'm really liking this app, especially since it's basically free (thank goodness for library cards). I'm excited to see if I can learn a good amount of Japanese through this app. So far, my only major gripe is that I can't control the autoplay speed, which is using the timer speed. The timer speed is so slow that autoplay is essentially unusable for me. This might be handy when trying to compose complex sentences in my head later, but for now, the sentences are extremely simple and I'm just waiting a good 10 or 15 seconds for the app to continue. This speed definitely needs to be adjustable, and there isn't any reason why it shouldn't be.
I've only been using this app for a little bit, and I've already learned so much more than I ever did using duo lingo or going to class. Class didn't teach me anything about speaking And duo lingo only teachers you a few words or phrases, I mean, no hate to duo lingo but this app is better in my opinion. And if you have a library card, it's free to use so it's perfect!
I've used Mango for the better part of 10 years and I think it is one of the best language learning apps out there! Plus it is affordable or free if your library participates in their program. I recommend it to everyone I know who is new to learning a language because there are so many to choose from, it is comprehensive and skillful in the way they teach. Everything is even color coded. You can practice speaking and listening skills, but you can also see how things are written to practice. A++
Only just now downloaded the app, but I am extremely pleased. The lessons are very thorough and explain the concepts well. The exercises actually challenge you instead of feeling like busy work. There are various ways to review and practise vocabulary, and you can even listen to lessons in a hands-free mode. Another huge plus is that you can access this all through your local library! This app is very promising
I've done maybe 3 lessons total but I love this app for Japanese! The fact it gives you practical prompts for speaking Japanese in actual conversation makes it so much better than other language apps I've seen and it teaches you grammar and gives you information on the culture as you learn which can be just as valuable to learning a language as the language itself. I also like that it reads prompts out to you and the overall app seems very user friendly.
