Used to work great. However, now for whatever reason, shortly into a walk the GPS signal gets lost and starts floating and it won't pick up the signal again until I have finished the walk or I happen to open the app up and catch it messing up. I love this app cause it tracks the miles I walk ACCURATELY and how long it takes ACCURATELY. It would be nice if it got back to that. I checked to see if there were updates needed and there weren't.
Reviews for Map My Walk: Walking Tracker
← Back to Map My Walk: Walking TrackerThis is a really useful app for tracking a workout. Easy to use, and I love seeing the route mapped out at the end. The only things I would change are (1) give the pace in MPH, and (2) give a prompt asking if you are done once you stop for a few minutes (or start moving at car speeds). I forget the app is running sometimes.
Does what it's supposed to do and accurately. Used the free version for a few months liked it enough to upgrade on the trial plan. Basically I got more interval splits and the option of having the nagging voice update your progress. Pros: Mileage via the GPS is accurate in my part of the world. Arizona, USA. Cons: Can't find many other features beyond the 2 mentioned to warrant the annual fee. They need to offer something else useful or I'm going back to the free version at my subscriptions end.
Works for me. When I got a new phone, it had another app preinstalled so I tried that app for a while and was disappointed. Map my walk runs in the background to give you an accurate map of your travel. That means it is measuring distance correctly. The preinstalled app didn't do this, and it mapped me jumping over houses, lakes, rivers, and canyons, giving bogus distances. I had used map my walk on my old phone and I'm glad to have it back again. I don't need or want an intrusive health app.
Very frustrating! Been using it for years but now, more often than not, it will not stop and go into a loop when attempts are made to save a workout. This occurs even with a strong wifi signal. I have uninstalled the app, restarted my phone and the inconsistencies continue. It often then records a 2 mile walk taking 25 hours. It will also pick up on an auto drive so that it records a 90 mile walk in 4 hours. It used to be a fun, now it's a joke.
It's four stars from me because it does a great job of tracking/mapping your progress even when out of cell service. It gives me the stats that I like and is pretty easy to use. The only problem is that sometimes when I start a workout it automatically switches to save mode, which then doesn't track your workout at all. After one entire missed workout I check that the app is keeping time before I stow my phone for the hike. A small inconvenience, really.
Very accurate for distance, requires serious calibration to get calories correct, but works great after that is done. Still working great after many months and miles. My one fault is that it is not consistent from one phone to another. I can carry three phones on the same walk and get three different distances. Somehow I suspect that's a problem with the GPS units in the phones . I have had to remove and reinstall this app three times in the last 2 months because it hung up.
I just use the free version, but I've been very happy with the performance of this app. It has all the features I need; total distance hiked, elevation gain, maps of your hike, total time, and other features. These all do an accurate job when comparing to trail maps. My only complaint is that it doesn't have automatic pause. When taking a break it continues to add time. If I pause it I often forget to restart it and the total time isn't properly recorded. Overall, a great app!
Does what it says & gives info you want. Has all kinds of options for excersise type/workout. Great feedback given to you, including a map of your route. No problems of any type with any update. Been happily using for over 7 yrs. :-) Galaxy Note 5 (updated 1/2019) Still an excellent tracking app for all kinds of exercises, never had a problem. Keep getting bugged by UnderArmor to verify my email address (no junk-email thanx), I just delete their request & don't do it. (1/14/21) (Updated (5/22)
I have been so frustrated with this app. It freezes during walks, loses parts of my activity, and today it failed to sync and lost my whole walk. It's very discouraging to lose a whole workout. Edited: It works much better now than it used to. Occasionally I still lose a workout, but it happens very rarely. And it hasn't frozen in months. Great for tracking walks.
The app won't close when I end my walk. This has happened several times now. The next morning it says I'm still walking after i end the exercise. It shows a map with my trail but with no stats on it. I have to uninstall and lose my progress. I'm getting ready to try another app if this happens again. Thank goodness fitbit is keeping track of everything. I wanted to show a screen shot but I guess I can't. What is disappointing is that I have a ton of stored data on this app.
Long time user and was great but something changed recently. The integration with GPS isn't working like it did causing parts of my walks getting lost, also my pace being recorded as both inaccurate and widely ranging a great deal even though I was steady throughout. I sent a message to support and I see multiple other users with new reviews showing this problem. maybe they'll correct things. Working great now. Thanks
I have been using Map my walk since July of 2013, and I am very pleased. I am only interested in tracking distance and time, I don't use any of the other features, but I do note that the calories burned seem to calculate consistently based on time, distance, and elevation. I find it is very dependable, and accurate. Update 5-17-2025. Still using the app. Still find it accurate. I do mainly use it for distance, but find the calorie and time feature useful for comparison to previous workouts
Most of the time this app works really well. However, there are days where it will say that the workout has started but actually it went to the save workout screen and never started.. so I've made it past the first mile and discovered this is why I never heard my mile time. Overall, this app is great. I've been using it for 7 years and have recommended to others along the way.
I have used the app for 6 walks so far. On the plus side, it's easy to use and relatively free of ads. However, it's only accurate half the time. I used my car's odometer to get the actual distance of my route. The distance measured by the app only agrees with the car every other walk and only displays an accurate map with the walks that match the correct distance. It does count the time accurately, but the variance in route and distance make it less useful than anticipated.
I really want to try this app but I don't like that I have to use my credit card to get the free trial. The free trial should be automatic and then it can prompt you to continue using it by adding a credit card. It just seems sneaky to me, like they hope you'll forget when the trial is up so it can automatically charge you. You can't even see the layout of the app without a credit card.
I've done plenty of walks and an occasional bike ride with this app. I find the tracking to be pretty accurate compared to other apps. It does need to tell the difference between walking and driving, though. I often forget to pause or end the activity before heading home and my numbers are way off. Some other apps will pause if going too fast. Overall, it's a great app, and I enjoy seeing the map after my walks.
I used to love this app, but it seems to be operating under a different company name now and it's absolutely terrible. it's not mapping my walk, it's flying by the crow from one point to another, cutting off parts of my distance, and giving me a terrible pace. I walk 7km an hour on my usual route, but this is only counting 6km and the map cuts through places I couldn't possibly walk. Disheartening as this was my go to for fitness.
This app is very accurate, especially compared to other walk apps. It has so many options that you can do, run, walk, bike or exercise workout. It records your steps, mph, speed, calories burned, heart rate and records the route you took. It has warm up exercises, cool down, stretches, exercise routines and recommendations. I highly recommend this app!
easy. accurate. really cool seeing my actual route. While I will keep the five stars in place, I do wish there was a way to lock in the type of exercise I am doing. It seems to randomly select among the different choices - walk, treadmill, mountain bike, etc. I would like to be able to lock in my most common exercise so that when I push the start button it will select that default. I just did a 45-minute walk, but it didn't measure distance because the program somehow selected treadmill.
