Reviews for MapFactor Navigator

Drain battery fast. I just updated to the lastest version hopping that the battery drain would be better (was not an issue in older versions) but now this version is even worse because when I start my GPS, the location is off by about 1 mile.... that's really bad and no longer useful to me. I also updated the map (Florida), so not sure if the issue is with the program or the map for the GPS discrepancy.

Downloaded local maps (US) on my S24+ to test and it worked. Interested because you can download maps for offline use. Needed settings so I could download maps for Iceland but could not figure how. I see a map and 3 customizable tabs on the bottom. Long press brings up a menu but settings or maps is not one of them. Tried swiping every direction, single tap , double tap, long press everywhere and could not find settings again. Navigation is simply not intuitive so deleted and moved on.

This is a solid offline GPS app. I have not had good luck with offline navigation apps before, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one...it did not let me down. Some of the speed limits were wrong, but directions were always good. Functionality takes a little getting used to... could maybe be easier, but with time it's learnable. My biggest issue with it is it's not easy to shut down the app completely. That could definitely use improvement.

Too complicated for vehicle radio head unit. KEEP IT SIMPLE. Less buttons and less clicks is safer driving. Look at a GARMIN GPS for reference. Large text, large Speed limits, large destination time. It does work with offline maps and GPS antenna. However, there needs to be a simple way to just enter an address for your destination library. Such as "Enter a new Destination to SAVE" Has anyone from this software developer tested this APP on a head unit with real people?

This is the worst GPS app I have used in recent memory. It soaks up ALL the phone's resources FOR NOTHING. the navigation is horrible as well, if you ever get the thing to find an address. It will not adjust to the addition of way points, instead it just tacks them to the end and NOTHING you do changes that. I paid for the maps, and I WILL GET THAT MONEY BACK. I don't put in "coordinates", I enter an address via standard American Address format. i.e. number street, city, state, zip. I also placed markers for "start" and "stop" directly on the map. Doesn't matter how I found start and destination, it drained my battery to nearly dead in a matter of Minutes, and every time (without exception) I tried to search a route it would lock up.

Used it a few times. Doesn't tell you what the next street is that you have to turn on is. Only gives the distance and direction. GPS is spotty, but GPS works fine in other apps. Map will often stop centering on the car. Response to Dev Response: I'm not wanting to hear the street name. I want the map to show it. There's other issues with the voice guidance even if I wanted that, which I don't.

Very fast customer support, allowed me to transfer my paid maps to a new phone (android), and I honestly didn't have to really do anything myself. GPS works best with the offline, multi line search. One line doesn't really like to work though, and google search doesn't work at all (NOT the developer's fault). Really nice, very useful app!!! Changed from 2-star to 5.

Update: I'm here to review the app not for help. As I said resizing the info bar to Small still too large. Too many useless settings. Won't pay premium for an app not working properly. Can't find all addresses. Doesn't show name of the street you turning next (don't tell me it's on the bottom, it's not there). Many other free choices out there offering better experience 😉

Hate it! Very confusing and cumbersome set up to download needed maps. Once downloaded, found it difficult to figure out how to set destination, and then equally difficult to figure out how to request route. After all that, I was told that no route was found. Both departure point and destination were established US addresses that Google Maps successfully gives me a route between immediately. Far too much trial and error tapping various icons in an attempt to find what I'm looking for.

It works again, yeah! Once again my favorite offline navigation app for Android. Only reason for the missing fifth star is that navigation on foot and with public transit is still more cumbersome than necessary. Would be great if subway stations could be made even more prominent on the map, and with the name of the lines they're on. If I could give 4.5 stars I would have. Please keep improving this, it's getting better release by release.

I have used this app for years, for everything from mountain biking expeditions to long-distance car trips and navigating on foot in New York City. I would give it five stars if it weren't for one little quirk where it had us get off on an exit and then get right back on the same highway for no apparent reason. It only happened in one spot and other than that it works great and it's wonderful that it is free and has offline maps.

Years of location information gone for no reason. I didn't change a thing on my phone but app decided it couldn't do anything without being reinstalled. Pen & paper more reliable. To be clear, I never uninstalled the original. I turned it on and it couldn't recognize where it was. I directed it to the SD card that it couldn't find for some unknown reason. After I did that, it acted like a new, previously never used app. (?)

Update 10/2018: I still use this and on my main phone. I've used it successfully in Tokyo, Taiwan, S. Korea, Germany, and navigating Yellowstone National Park. It is often not quite as good as the big name data plan napping software, but it is still pretty good and my go to option when signal is week or nonexistent. 2015: I've used this on a spare android I've picked up mostly for audiobooks & as a backup phone requiring just a sim card insertion. However, on trips to Costa Rica, Honduras, & Belize it was very good. I didn't have a data plan in these countries, but preloaded the maps, rented a car, and drove across the countries for a day to a week w/o issues. A couple times locals had better suggestions & a few times we got turned around, but using the free SW & free maps is very polished for the price.

The mapping works offline, which is why I got it. I then purchased some of the upgrades, like multiple routes, and that worked great... Until one day the app reported that I no longer had the upgrade and is prompting for another purchase. This had happened twice now. The app has also wiped my addresses and will not let me import them from my contact list, either. If you need the offline mapping, get this, otherwise PASS! I've used the same Google Play account since Samsung Galaxy S3 came out.

Used it today in the the mountain forest roads and it work wonders. I didn't think it would show the roads up there but it did, and was I relieved. No more paper maps for me. Updates: I'm trying to love this app, but all the knick picking cost for features that should be built in is steering me away, especially when Google Maps does more for free.

Been using this app since 2013 and it worked great. This spring I noticed that distances were way off compared to other navigator apps. Then, during a trip last week the app bugged me with "Recalculating the route" voice notifications every second when I used it on dirt roads and wouldn't follow the exact route. That was soo annoying that I had turned it off altogether and missed my turn. I realized it too late which cost me extra 2 hours of driving :((

Decent details only wish you could put in actual street number in phone version. Years later I continue to use this program as one of my primary nav programs. Love the fact that you can get maps from around the world for free. I've also seen where this program works better than the one in the rental car! Overall, a nice product (...but still wish there were more street addresses in the database!).

I like the fact that it doesn't try to force people to have data on to be able to navigate. The search is more challenging since Google doesn't allow MapFactor to use their map search base any longer. If that gets fixed, it's a 5 star. (New Review) BUT NOW... I don't appreciate that out of eleven searches I've done since the last update, I haven't been able to find ONE. Is this a way to force me to buy maps? As per your app "If you would like better results, please purchase." And there isn't any easy to find info of how much it costs, and how often often to pay. My only option is to use an app that allows me to find locations and use data, (I have unlimited anyway.) Why would buying the maps yield me better results? Now, I don't tell anyone of your app. I used to tell everyone. Good luck.

Works great once you take the time to set it up the way you want it. Map update downloads now require my phone to be unlocked and with the navigator app fronted to download. It use to download even when the phone entered standby mode but not now making map update downloads to be very painful. Also it seems when there are updates it is all maps need to be downloaded. This also seems different from how it use to be a few years ago.

Still one of the best offline navigation apps out there. I never had a problem with it. I'm dropping my 5 stars down to 4 not so much to penalize the developers, but because I am disappointed that you can't search for your destination as easily as you could before ever since Google made the option unavailable from within the app.
