Interface isn't intuitive. Adding stops is a complicated process, especially when trying to add a destination between the starting point and the final destination. Searching for categories of businesses yields points on the map that must be manually clicked and cycled through, rather than a list that can easily be navigated. Recalculating when deviating from the route is slow. The app will often think the user has deviated from the route when he hasn't, resulting in erroneous recalculation.
Reviews for MapQuest: Get Directions
← Back to MapQuest: Get DirectionsDownloaded the app just now. After entering direction & starting a voice navigation, it sounded as a dying human in last min of her life, too slow speaking speed, scary deep voice, barely able to pronounce a single sound... Originally wanted a map to calculate gasoline consumption. This app was offering it but after spending @ least 40 min. to make it work, following given instraction, I couldn't find find that future. If this app can't make my life easier, why make it harder ? Uninstalling.
Good application! Really needed it to come through! First, as you drive it didn't keep up well and you can actually pass the street before it calibrates to keep up. Second, after you hit the stop it has no feature to check off the stop and move to the next! You just have to keep moving but then the address bar on top is stuck at the previous turn signal. It was disappointing and very frustrating I have to say. Not ready yet for civilian use in my opinion.
Using android, it is not self explanatory how to save your route, with multiple stops. I don't want to re-plug it in everytime I move out of your app. I also want to print my directions and have searched your help section but see only help for printing from a browser only, not from the app? This is just my frustrations having downloaded your app 20 minutes ago. I realized I needed to create an account through my laptop. Went to log in to my android phone and the app does NOT have a way.
This is an update. I originally gave it only one star due to installation issues. The app seems to work pretty well when Google maps fails. Still a little slow at times : It will tell me to turn at a street that I just passed, for example. Other than that, a pretty good app. Also, the "female" voice giving audible directions could be a bit more pleasant sounding.
This is definitely my preferred navigation app, especially now that my job requires me to go to different locations. There are a few addresses that the app doesn't seem to think exist, so I had to download a second app to get to them (but it's not as easy to use as MapQuest, so I won't be using it for anything else). And I do wish that when you rotate your phone, the screen would split vertically rather than horizontally between the directions and the map like it used to.
Not as good as the website. Does not offer to rearrange stops to maximize time. Says can't calculate route when attempting to manually alter stops to save time. Wish there was an option to save routes. We are planning a cross country road trip to hit the national parks, I tried the website and really thought we had found our trip planner. Guess we will have to keep looking for a better app.
Constant problems with this app. Am always afraid I'm going to see "Route failed" when I've no idea where I am. Managing favorite places, on which I rely heavily, is impossible. Can't figure out to edit them, can't sort their order at all, and half the time it takes me 5 minutes just to find how to add a new one. This could be a lot better.
First time using the app and it's good. Got me where I needed to be with no issues. I like the themes that represent me on the map, I used the sneaker. I also like the filters of restaurants, gas stations, etc that are handy. Would love see an android auto app. That's probably the one thing keeping me from using full time. Also the theme of the app is kind of dry, could use some refreshing. Other than it's already a solid replacement of google maps. Try it out.
I used to love this ap as I found it easier to navigate with and simple to set up. Now sometimes it is blocked over by ads, etc. Making it impossible to use. Could another map ap be doing that such as google maps? I am back to using and it is much easier. We moved to a different state and once it found out "home", I love it. Addendum: Sometimes we overshoot our destination and lose map directions. Have to look up address and re-enter to find the place (in the country).
Better than most mapping and navigation apps, especially google maps. Has the ability to load 25 stops without additional purchases or subscriptions, though I wish it had a subscription service at a minimal charge to keep it stable, only lasts a week. Once it becomes unstable and force closes, the only thing that fixes it is uninstall/reinstall, and it works fine again. Average score, but better than google's one star. Warning: Don't open settings, that's the force closing bug.
I recently bought a new phone and the information on my old map quest would not transfer over. The NEW version also does not have a sign in so I couldn't get into my online version. So, had to manually re-enter EVERYTHING! So, damn frustrating!! May just go back to Waze. UPDATE: After putting all my info back into this app I closed it and got ready to go. Got to my car, opened the app, went to favorites and ALL my info was gone. Uninstall install Waze
Yup, just like everything else that works well for a long time this app now sucks due to someone thinking qe need to see ads at every turn. Watch an ad before the app even opens? Nope. And there's no way I'll be watching one in mainstream traffic when I'm needing to keep track of where I'm going. Sorry, you're losing another long time customer with this bonehead move. And no, I'm not sticking around to pay for something that you once provided for free.
Sometimes the voice doesn't give warning ahead far enough to turns and exits, but sometimes they're excellent. I'd like a little tweaking so they're all timely alerts! I do like the way I can get it through the bluetooth. Again the voice told me to turn when I was past the street. Not enough warning ahead. The distance is longer than actual. Many times. Review and change. Please! Voice is often too late for turns and estimates often not accurate. Again voice doesn't give accurate information.
Wish for a gps app that doesn't exit the route when it assumes you've arrived. At least this one stays on the map but removes the marker, many times you have to drive by a couple times to find it. Especially at night! But i like it better than google maps and waze which totally exit route. police traps, speed traps, red light cameras would be nice! sometimes the speed limit is wrong. if you're not on a road it has a hard time figuring out what direction you're going, just spins around.
Found several errors when I searched for items. A couple examples, numerous businesses shown in a restaurant search have been closed for over 5 years. Map shows a Whole Foods one mile from its actual location at the site of a Walmart. Not sure where Mapquest is obtaining their data from, but they need to make sure they are checking the accuracy of it. Six years later and this app is still awful. I visited Santa Fe, NM and would enter destinations and it had me going in circles. Never again!
Mixed bag. The Mapquest website used to allow you to build a custom route to where you were going. There are aspects I like about the app, but even though it gives me 2 or 3 route options, it keeps changing to the fastest one without telling me. Then you have to start over. If you add a stop, or even look for one to possibly add, the drive you are on ends, and you start over again. This may be OK for a work commute, but not a road trip.
I've used this app over the others for several years for the simplicity of being able to build my own route by dropping pins where I wanted to go by using the roads that I wanted. that option has been taken away. you can't even go to the add a stop and drop another pin somewhere along the route. you can only do it by adding addresses. yup although Google maps has always been more complicated you can at least use 2-3 steps to go through a process to drop pins along the route. I'll be switching.
Great, Used for years. I only gave 4 stars because I do wish they had not changed the icon to Green. Otherwise I would have given five. It was much easier to find in the mottled black, because it didn't look like anything else. Although it doesn't tell you where the cops & accidents are, or reroute you around heavy traffic like Waze, I still always check MapQuest because of the ease of choosing different routes, etc.
works well, but would so appreciate it if the ads at least wouldn't be ones that look like scams/fraud. or even more stupidly, when the ads look like they're supposed to be a feature of the app... or even better was the one today that looked like one of the app pop-ups saying to update the app. it was not, and shame on you for allowing that - can't you get your ad revenue from somewhere besides bottom bin google ads that major websites won't allow?
