I was told to get this app for work. I payed the $6 no big thing. But almost all the ships I need to see are $1 to see for 24 hours. I mean what the heck. I cant help the pilots if I am paying out every day. I may need to see 12 or more in a day. I think I will just wait for dispatch to call. The developers of the app responded to the problem I was having. I feel the fix to be acceptable to me. I was able to get a rough idea when a ship was do without dispatch.
Reviews for MarineTraffic - Ship Tracking
← Back to MarineTraffic - Ship TrackingI have used this app to identify the ships moving past me on the Ohio River. With the change to satellite, we now cannot identify anything without paying monthly. No longer worth it. I'll buy a pair of binoculars instead. Too bad, I liked the product and had already paid for the software (but you now also have to pay monthly too).
Do not buy it. I paid for this app, and they've moved the most useful stuff - open ocean posits, behind a further $1/ship/day. So, the app has no use because there are free apps that give you the in-shore/close-to-coast data. Skip this, because you're not paying for data. you're paying for a so-so app. find something else
I paid 5 dollars for this app because I use it to see the location of enroute freighters to our facility to be loaded. It gives me a timeframe to get everyone where they need to be prior to the boat's arrival. Now i see that you want to charge more money to see a more exact location? If you wanted to charge more at the start. that would of been OK within reason, but now I just feel you are trying to squeeze us for more money.
I hate that I paid for this app. It is no better at accurately showing a boats position than free versions. In fact it's worse than most. I need to when a ship is close to my bridge. Sometimes it shows them hours away when they are just minutes away. Sometimes it doesn't show a boat until it is right on me. Other times it shows the boat as sitting at the bridge long after it left. Very disappointed. I would not recommend paying for this app. I wouldn't even want this one free.
As a harbor tour guide, this app is exceedingly helpful. It is very detailed and easy to use. It is popular among all of my coworkers. A few things that would make it more helpful: - the ability to switch between metric and standard (imperial) measurements. Length in feet would be particularly great. -TEUs for container ships. -Maximum passenger counts for cruise ships.
App works really well, even just the free version is extremely useful. Only complaint is sometimes I see a "ghost" ship. What I mean by that is there will be two green arrows, but in actuality there is only one ship there. One will come up as an unidentified vessel, and the other will contain all the information of the real ship. This will correct itself if I adjust my zoom slightly.
I have waited a long time to review this app. I have come to a conclusion. It is a flat out terrible user interface! My goodness, I've never used a program with so many glitches and loading issues. Sucker punch is when I paid finally paid for services in app, i am being told the vessel i am tracking has arrived and departed key west 10 times in 24 hrs! The vessel is 3/4 to Panama... and I had to call the crew to find this out.
The app is very easy and straight forward to use. The free version gives you the basic info such as, position, speed, course, all on the icon. If you click on that, then details, it gives a little more info, along with pictures of the ship. I live on the beach of Lake Michigan, which really makes it handy for me. When I see a ship passing, must often I'll check to see who it is, which is usually from the frequents of around 20.
Was a decent paid app where you could see most of the free capabilities of the web version and with some extras inapp purchase (like augmented reality view) then they lost the shame and now I have a paid app full of ads and less features than before (and web version). Everything is under subscription, even the pictures of the ships are under "payment" (must see an add). The same pictures that you as user provide to them for free. Makes no more sense to buy this app.
I use this app everyday for my job. Working as a maritime security officer it really helps narrow down when the ships are going in and out of the harbor and they update every couple minutes so it's pretty accurate. you can see literally any ship on GPS in the entire world. So that's kind of cool and I really like that all of the different types of vessels are different colors.
I love the app, so I went into settings to try to buy the "pro" version. I didn't see a pro version, but I did see add-ons like charts, so I figured, yeah, I'll go ahead and buy a chart for my area. Could I buy one? no. I could only "subscribe". There are so many app vendors that get no money from me because of the subscription model, and this app became one of them.
Was so happy to get this app, even paid for the annual starter pack to monitor Great Lakes freighters on our vacation, but the app doesn't keep me logged in, then when I am logged in it doesn't recognize that I have paid for the subscription which does allow access to the upgraded features. Additionally, it doesn't remember my fleet so when I try to access that it doesn't show anything. Very disappointed.
This is great for finding what ship is moving and where. It has ships stats. I use it to see what is moving into Duluth Harbor Cams areas. It is going to be fun in the spring when the water ways are all open again. You can make a fleet, once registered, so you can easily see where your favorites are. I like the free version but might just purchase the better one, after investigating a little more. Great job, Devs!! I love this app.
At one time, I purchased this app with full functionality but since then, they continue to move more features behind another paywall. I understand money has to be made, but the price point for these added tracking options ($1 for 1 ship for 1 day) is insulting. A reasonably priced monthly subscription is okay in my book, even as just an enthusiast. UI is good and app is reliable, but beware of the prices.
The app misled me to believe that this was a one-time purchase and would cover all ships. It did not say that the more detailed GPS location info would only be available for one ship, and for only 24 hours. I am interested in having access to updated information about multiple ships, but do not have any use for this in-app purchase now that its limitations are clear. I could not use the feature and contacted the app developer immediately. Slow response from the developer, no refund. Waste.
Wow. Very disappointed. I've used the site for a while now and finally made the switch to the app. Figured the $5.99 USD would be worth it because of my frequent use and how cumbersome the site is. Well it's not worth it. After you pay the $5.99 you get access but the majority of ships have their "position received by satellite". You need to pay $0.99 USD per ship to get access to info for only 24 hours. Keep your money, skip the app and just use the website.
Great app for tracking all kinds of sea vessels. But... After paying the subscription fee, I shouldn't have to pay extra $$ on each vessel's real time up to date GPS and/or updated information that is only good for 24hrs! It gets to expensive. Will be looking for another app that won't gouge me for extra money. Quite disappointed, unless they offer a better plan where I won't have to do this every 24 hours.
I'm tracking (or trying to, at least) a ship my loved one is working on, however the ship location does not update for DAYS at a time. I've tried paying the .99 for the updated location, and still nothing. ETA for their ship arrival at their destination port is either blank or stuck on an incorrect ETA date. (Really frustrating when I'm waiting on standby for a phone call and the ship doesn't even go into port). Oh, and notifications cost money too. I can't believe I paid for this app. #RipOff
The App works fine when location vessels. I did pay for the subscription & more data is available. I have a ASI system on our boat and have tried for weeks to install pictures of our boat. The app fails to load & constantly tells me to try again. Also I am unable to delete a photo that is a duplicate? I have tried a dozen different pictures that meet the criteria. Very Frustrated.
