Premium content but carries premium price tag! The courses are terrific, but it does suck they lock you into a Full Year subscription at $180 paid in full (no monthly subscription available). There are many classes I wanted to take so it was worth it for me. If you only see one or two classes you like, then you might want to pass. Otherwise the content is top notch!
Reviews for MasterClass: Become More You
← Back to MasterClass: Become More YouI had this on iPhone where it was a great working app. On android however there's quite a few problems. Your place in class or in a lesson doesn't save, and sometimes a lesson plays under another one's name. Its buggy, for sure. It's not unusable, so long as you keep track of your own progress and find your spot, but its definitely inconvenient. Developers, the android version could use some love.
I've been using this for only a few days and the issues with the app are taking away from the content. The biggest hang-up is with chromecast. It's been unusable: every few minutes it turns off with an error. For this price they need to have smooth and consistent performance. There's been other issues with PiP etc but Chromecast needs to work. I hope they'll make an update soon.
Five stars for the MasterClass content! Three stars for the app, which could stand to be improved. For instance, the ability to pause playback from sources other than the pause button on the screen (very common in other video and audio apps, like by using a play button on headphones), and also a general overhaul of the audio only mode which requires a lot of not hands-free manipulation to manage basic audio controls.
Initially my attention was captivated by a couple of well-known names for a particular set of topics, but after purchasing the membership I realized that I became just as interested in many other classes they had to offer. Many of these classes are condensed (yet long enough) and challenged my thinking on how I see myself and the world. Far better than Netflix because it is not only entertaining but also productive. Great on the go, as a gift for others, and quenches the desire for mentors.
Beware! Dl'd the app because the website refuses to work. Still didn't help. They renewed my subscription today even though I cancelled the membership days after starting it a year ago. "Settings" on the website doesn't do anything. I cant even check whether their site didnt cancel my subscription. Now I have $10 in the bank and won't get paid for a week...submitted a ticket but who knows how long it'll take them to look at it. Their site won't let me log in about 90% of the time either.
They promoted buy one membership and get one free (was going to gift second), did not deliver on that promotion. Also stated, 7 day free trial, again did deliver. I tried to cancel before the 7 days because of my disappointment. I got charged for a year and you can't reach ANYONE! Can't even do a charge back because you need to contact the vendor - good luck with that! SCAM ALERT
Great content, but the app does not keep proper track of classes I have finished. I have a handful of classes that are shown as "Pick up where you left off", even though I finished them completely. Also, I have a gift subscription but I still had to provide my credit card number. That annoyed me to the point where I'll be cancelling my gift membership once the year is over.
I found the singing lessons lacking, and the app could be better. I struggle with it most in the car where it seems like it wants to restart from the beginning of lesson 1, or at least the beginning of what lesson I'm on. A fast forward feature would be helpful during those situations. Maybe it's just because I want to learn singing specifically, but I don't feel like I got what I paid for. Sorry Neil.
Scam site...AVOID. They make it impossible to cancel your membership...not having this feature in the app is sketchy at best. Then when they charge you again and you contact support, they refuse to work with you more than a paltry discount. It seems to be a common occurance how no one can magically cancel until you've already been charged. And of course, they are legally covered.
Yo Yo Ma is the reason we signed up and it is completely worth it. Other classes are not as much. The sell is that they are a master class (per the name) yet they have structured many to have stand alone segments, using the same footage and redundant information. The app is not user friendly. There is no mechanism for sorting saved classes and the search engine is not complete. Sohla's class does not come up in cooking, baking, or food searches which is ludicrous. We will not be renewing.
Content is great...experience can be improved (especially the video player). Google Play, Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, and so many more media players have figured out the DRM-protected means to allow users to download content to their devices for offline playback. Why can't MasterClass? Until that happens, you can't really enjoy your classes "anywhere". Which is a shame, because these are perfect for long plane rides, car rides, & other "downtime" when I don't usually have dependable access
If you are considering trying it on a trial basis, DON'T DO IT. The content and was well made but not exclusive to masterclass. Also, refund process is deceptively complicated and their articles do not fully explain the process. You have to request a refund through their platform, and when you get to the page to request the refund there's a variety of options that make requesting refund confusing and ambiguous.
My sister gifted me with a full year of Masterclass and I've been enjoying it very much. The content is top-notch, as expected, and the app works quite well. The only negative I would have to comment is that the navigation is a little troubling at first. When notifications come in, their links take you directly to that page but it is tricky finding your way back to the content you were already viewing, to start where you left off. Not impossible, just tricky, like the organization is weird.
This app is super buggy. It randomly stops playing and when you manually hit play again, it will restart the chapter. Or, it will just randomly close. It also doesn't track the progress great. Sometimes, it will show certain chapters as incomplete, even though I check and verify I had indeed finished them. Not quite the experience I expected for the amount of money I spent on this subscription.
I love the class options. I just hate the way the app is set up. I can't find my saved classes easily and every time I click something and try to go back to the list, it starts the list back at the top and you have to keep scrolling to find the class. They could let you make your own "playlist" and add a Playlist tab at the bottom so you can access the classes you picked out directly. There are too many classes to scroll and the filters are Meh.
So many great classes! I have learned about music, style, finances, storytelling, creativity... and just getting started! My husband gifted me a year subscription and it's the best gift I've ever received! One issue with the app though. Occasionally when I open the app, it will give an option to continue watching or cancel. If I hit cancel, the previous class will continue to play anyways but the class I chose will also play. I'll restart the app and it will fix itself, but it's kinda weird.
I thought that the payment would be taken for a month, but it was taken for a whole year, this surprised me and I am trying to cancel my subscription but it is all difficult there, almost impossible the app pass me to their website and that site takesme backtothe app, thatnot funny. You need to write to them by e-mail, wait a long time to get your money back.
This is about the app, not the classes. App is buggy. Turns off my Bluetooth and won't work with it. I tried uninstalling the app, and reinstalling, restarting my phone and still a problem. My Bluetooth works with all other apps! THEN they have the webpage drive all detected mobile traffic to the app, so I can't even bypass it. Just signed up today, and I'm pissed that I have to go find plug in earbuds. In 2025! How hard can this really be?
Great content but this app is buggy and hard to use trash. if you pause the video and then turn off your phone, when you turn your phone back on this video starts playing on its own. this has happened a few times when I was in a quiet area. additionally if you don't realize the video is playing, you will lose your spot on the video. it's very frustrating.
