Absolute trash app. They had something good and replaced it with some new nonsense. You cannot access older courses unless you were already using them. For instance, I can access Spanish I & II because I had already used those courses, but I am not allowed to access any of the rest of the older Spanish courses. Their new program is trash--it tries to do way too much and fails at nearly all of it.

I've enjoyed using this app for about a year. I use it in tandem with other learning apps. However, the most recent update has messed with my daily streaks and made them go away. Even after I complete my at quota for the day and it says that my daily goal has been met, it's all gone the next day. 300+ days gone away. I know it's a little thing but it's a little frustrating when you had made a goal and the way you were tracking it messes up.

When I downloaded this app at the beginning of the year, it was phenomenal! I felt like I had finally found the hidden gem of language learning software. It updated automatically in February to a new and illogical version. They've intentionally removed all of the community generated languages from the app, so all my progress was lost. They did not notify me of any upcoming changes at all. Just decided to render hundreds and thousands of learners 'expelled,' so to speak, from the app.

latest update 5-1-2019: I guess it should be a small thing, but I really hate the new icon and ui colors/style. it's really a turnoff - I just don't like the way it looks. I found the older version much more visually appealing. original: I've been using the app for almost a year... Exclusive of other study - though I can't say I could walk into a group and acquit myself in a conversation I'm amazed at what I have learned. I'm confident of learning my language and hope to start others.

I use this app every day. First I paid for 1 year, but the lifetime membership is a much better deal. My favorite part is that they have videos of actual people saying the phrases. I also like the listening exercises. One improvement they could make: As you're reviewing a phrase in your target language, they don't always give you the English translation. As a result, sometimes I'm reviewing phrases, but I have absolutely no idea what they mean. I love this app! It's super!!

I love this app! I'm learning Norwegian and im almost on level 2 or "Norwegian 2" its called. I've been learning Norwegian fooooor a few months? Memrise is fun and easy to use. Some things require pay, but you don't have to. I'm learning Norwegian perfectly fine without paying. I definitely recommend this app to anyone who is interested in learning a new language. They start off with the basics. Like, communication. Saying sorry and such things similar to that. Enjoy and practice! Work hard!!!!!!

Tried this for free for several days, liked it, paid for the annual. Immediately all of my progress disappeared and the app says I have done absolutely nothing in all that time. I have written to them several times and it's not even a real address. These guys might be absolute scammers! beware beware beware. I'm absolutely canceling my payment on my credit card because immediately after I paid -poof they disappeared. SCAMMERS!!!!!!! Seemed like a good app but I'm not impressed now

I'm having to change from 5 stars to 2 stars because, as someone said with learning Mandarin, the same thing is happening on the Japanese course with the Kanji. As it introduces a new Kanji, instead of having its translation in English at the bottom like it used to, it just has the same Kanji character which is completely useless an unhelpful. Please fix this! You have been my favorite language learning app and I'd like to still be able to use Memrise.

I bought the pro. I'm really enjoying the Spanish / Mexican, although not doing much more than a video a day at the moment. I had a 3+ year streak with duo and got over the pressure and constant adds to upgrade. I had made a lot of progress, except for speaking. I hope you stay with the no ads for lifetime members. The AI is very helpful, but the mic doesn't work well. Probably would be better with headphones. I have one suggestion. I'm interested in the Finnish language.

Pros: Unlike Doulingo, Memrise incorporates articles with nouns and real people talking. Cons: I wish it was a bit more "gamified" and there was a way to miss a day and not have your "streak" reset. I also cannot stand the conversation with AI section. I just skip it all together.

This is a well-rounded language learning app. I was surprised that it had me start with phrases so early, but I've ended up really liking it. My favorites: I like having the ability to choose which topics to study. I'm a big fan of being able to hear native speakers rather than just AI. Speed Review was intimidating at first, but really makes a difference with consistent practice. The literal translation feature is fantastic- it helps me to understand and apply what I am learning.

After a few weeks I have to edit my review. I'm not too fond of the lesson formats. They seem so random. However, the AI features are what gives this app such GREAT value for me. Definitely a keeper for that reason. We need something to train our minds into putting sentences together in the language we're learning. This app seems great for that.

A really good app to improve listening and vocab, but like any language learning app can't be your only source of information. Doesn't explain any sort of grammar. The native speaker videos are my favorite feature, because it really feels like "oh the stuff I'm learning could actually be used" which feels lacking with other apps. Also the videos are just charming.

OG 5 star review: It's a great supplement for learning languages Current: I loved the ability to search so many different sets of vocab and was using this to study for the JLPT. Ifibally bought the lifetime pro and then all their sets went away. Now I'm stuck with the same beginner words and cant choose a difficulty setting to make it harder. Also in the chats it won't let me type in Japanese! Don't waste your money, this app used to be WAY better. I regret buying this.

It was good. Then they took off the download capabilities. I fly quite often and use to be able to take lessons while I'm on airplane mode. I thought the AI stuff was a good step up. it feels like a real conversation. But the download feature needs to be brought back so I can always take lessons on the go. I don't want to have to buy WiFi connectivity to take lessons. The only reason why I went to the pro version was so I can download the lessons.

Used a few hours and am impressed compared to similar aps. I didn't know I could select more than 1 word list, so I wound up doing semi-advanced conversations for moving abroad, which is a bit too difficult currently (yet still had fun). I tried going backward in lessons but couldn't, so I deleted all progress and am starting anew. Lessons have no tags/labels, so navigation is a bit convoluted. Will have to see what else is on here and re-review.

So I started Memrise about 2 weeks ago and I really like the program and the way it is taught. I love native Spanish people showing the correct way to say the words. My only problem, I need a way to slow everything down. I can't hear some of the harder words because it is spoken too fast for me to understand each syllable. I would like to suggest some type of slow motion button so I can say the word correctly. Some of the words are tongue twisters. I believe that would help tremendously. thanks

This app has potential. My biggest things are having to pay to have the grammatically explained to you. Limiting those explanations make it harder to fully grasp language learning. Also, the lessons move way too fast. When answering a question, you can't just reflect on it for a second, because it almost immediately goes to the next question. Navigating through the app is overwhelming and showing lessons that free users cannot access is just distracting. Learning common phrases does help.

I've been using this for years. It used to be the best out of ALL of the apps, and suddenly they uprooted everything that made it great in the first place. Videos used to be better, with the videos of locals speaking to be awesome. Now they added AI, which is the most alienating thing. Stop resetting my streak every day!!!! Videos rarely ever work anymore, and most of the time just error and don't play at all. They make it IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade your subscription to a better plan. Fix this!

Good overall. No basic review of the grammar is ever available which makes learning certain languages harder. The AI thing keeps prompting me to fill in nouns when I haven't learned any, so those lessons are useless; plus the pronunciation lessons will accept just about any pronunciation whether it's right or not. But the available vocabulary lists are extensive, so it's a pretty good complement to other study materials.
