This is still a fantastic update which exceeds expectations. The subscription model was more than worth the money given the developer has got to make a living and, let's face it at just over £4 a year is an absolute bargain. Now, due to complaints from whiners wanting something on the cheap the subscription model has been dropped, hopefully not at the expense of stalling development. If donations are offered in the app the developer will get my support.
Reviews for Mobile Observatory Astronomy
Simply the most useful app today, nothing else can compare to the amount of AMAZING information packed into something free to download or even paid apps too, so, in saying this, suggest a monthly or yearly subscription , if you are an amatuer or a pro and this app isnt on your device, your missing half of what see above, might as well study the oceans.
The Application is really awesome. My only problem currently is that this App has not been updated since November 2023 and has lot's of bugs and freezing issues with new Smartphones. Btw, Database and Accuracy is at par with any other astronomy app (paid) out there that's for sure. And the widgets? Guys, I bet you've never seen such great and nice widgets! I never missed a single event till now! But please developers, if you're seeing this, please tell us what are your plans?
Great app for astronomy enthusiasts! There is fairly comprehensive information about the night sky that will help anyone from the casual star gazer to the avid astronomer and astro photographer. My only complaint is the night vision mode. It seems to be too red and therefore too dark, at least for my eyes. Adjusting the screen brightness barely improves it. I hope the developer can find a way to brighten it just a little bit in a future update, maybe add just a little orange to it.
Many functions (I haven't explored all of them). Clear display with smooth movement/animation. Helpful tips. Only thing that comes close to a fault is that it has to load data every time it boots, but it doesn't take more than about 7 seconds over WiFi. And there are settings that allow you to download many of them preemptively. Not sure how fast the boot/load would go over 4G
Unironically phenomenal. I love SkySafari, but can't lie, MO scratches a different itch, and I'm finding myself leaning more and more towards it. Also, a suggestion - I would love to see the time controls have an adjustable "fast forward" (á la SkySafari) to let things play out at a hands-free rate, like a timelapse! Further, exoplanet systems (i.e the Kepler/Gliese catalogue) would really be special - I can't find a single planetarium app that provides 'em. Incredible stuff. Keep it up!
This app appeared, at first, to be informative, easy to use, and educational. That was until I started to look more closely at a certain comet (C/2014 UN271). Initially, the app showed the comets path would take it to within .02au of earth in Feb2031 which contradicted the astronomers who said, "it would be a billion miles away at around the orbit of Saturn.." before heading back out of the solar system. Now, the owners have erased all the data relating to the comet from the app. Curious!
An amazing app that keeps me updated about the sky! The day is incomplete without its tonight's best! Great work!! Suggest this particularly to young students who can easily pick up astronomy as a healthy hobby. Lot of time can be spent usefully. The mapping of the sky in terms of constellations, the calibration of the ecliptic in terms of zodiac, that of the moon's in terms of 27 asterisms! Oh, the myths behind the constellations... Excitement unlimited and MO is the perfect tool!
Cool app. This app has almost everything. Maybe one recommendation: please add Field of view to the objects, depending on sensor and focal length (something similar to Telescopius). It will help very much for observing and astrophotography and it doesn't need to show real pictures. It can be a small circle showing only the size depending on these parameters. Thanks and keep it up. Really nice work!
Not sure what else is out there, been a fan of SkEye for some time but after trying MO free I've moved to the paid version It has added more enjoyment to a passing interest in astronomy with greater access to a variety of information and features. Downloadable catalogues etc. Edit. >>>Unfortunately no way to turn off the live motion during Skyview (not Live view)!!
