I really like this app! I can see my budget and compare it to my actual transactions. I also like how I can check expenses off of my list. However, I do have a few suggestions to make this app better: - Add cash accounts to liability goals. I want to track how much I'm paying towards a loan, including interest. - More efficient automation. I've created more than one rules for one type of transaction, and can't keep track of all rules for one merchant. - I want to track my cash on hand.
Reviews for Monarch: Budget & Track Money
Not with paying for in my opinion. Constant issues with connectivity to other services. And at times the app shows ridiculously incorrect amounts in your accounts. It's a cool product and has many nice features, but it's not worth the money due to the repetitive issues. If it was free, sure, you get what you pay for. But I'm not paying to troubleshoot connectivity issues and wonder why I'm being shown incorrect information.
Biggest beef: Intentionally deceptive subscription options! Monthly sub isn't even an option in the app, but it is if you go to the website. However, the new LLM AI integration for analyzing cryptic statement entries is awesome (though I definitely need to read their privacy policy now!) Overall the current best app for personal finance, but DEFINITELY shop for a coupon. 50% off is not uncommon.
Made the mistake of wasting money on a yearly subscription. App constantly disconnects from accounts across multiple institutions, have to log in and reconnect multiple times a month. Transactions are messy and the app can't seem to figure out how to handle interest/gains in a cash account or cash transfers in an investment account. Been looking for a Mint replacement, this isn't it
I really like Monarch but on two separate occasions I've discovered numerous missing transactions. Deleting and relinking the accounts fixed the issues temporarily, but that's a deal breaker for me. I haven't had that issue with another (significantly less expensive) app. Even if it means I'll have slightly less granularity in certain aspects of that other app as compared to Monarch, at least I'll have all transactions imported properly.
Monarch makes it very easy to see all your accounts in one place. I've never had such a complete picture of my finances. Automating things like pulling real estate values from Zillow or estimating vehicle value based on VIN is super convenient and of course you get to track that data over time. it could probably use a better tutorial to teach you how to deal with some common items like categorizing transactions for debt payments where you are tracking both accounts.
If you like micro-managing your finances, this app is the way to go. If you prefer a very simple money managing experience, this might not be your cup of tea. It has many ways of looking at your money and budget to get a complete sense of your finances, including multiple budget formats, a net worth calculator, and a goal tracker. All of these things are better than previous apps I've used. The downside to so many features is that the initial setup is very daunting.
Mostly good. There's an annoying bug with the app (web and phone) where it will attempt to auto name some transactions, but the logic behind this is buggy, especially when using another service like Google Pay. The app will label it "Google Pay" automatically and obscure the actual merchant and often will misscategorize it as well. Frustrating to have to go line by line to fix these issues.
A feature I would like to see implemented is something that will help you dial in your budget by looking at your expenses over the past year and showing you what you spent monthly, on average, in each category. Maybe even intelligently recommend changes to be made to the budget. Best budgeting/financial tracking app I've used so far. Annual cost is pretty high, though.
I never could get started with apps like this in the past, and wound up just keeping my own spreadsheets with manually created formulas and tables and stuff. Two days after starting the free trial in this app, I had transferred 100% of the useful info from that plus quite a few new things like categories, plus had it set up to get live updates from most accounts so that I don't have to enter transactions and "balance the books" on my own anymore. Has been phenomenal and effortless.
