Had as a free service for years, and overall worked pretty well for identifying spam calls. I noticed about 5 months ago a lot of spam calls getting through as well as caller ID no longer working. Then they moved to a pay subscription and, given the drop-in functionality, I deleted it. It was a great product for years, but not worth paying for it. Tried to free sister version and did not offer anything that this app used to.
Reviews for Mr. Number: Spam Call Blocker
← Back to Mr. Number: Spam Call BlockerUsed to be a good app, but several months ago, they changed to a premium service options. I get it, charge users for caller ID. A bummer for a feature that was free for years, but the app still worked. Every update since then has removed more and more features for unpaid users. Then the paywall happened. Although I used this app happily for years, I cannot see the logic in spending a monthly fee for something that hasn't worked right in six months or more. Uninstalled.
I love this application! It was recommended several years earlier by PC World magazine. I am so glad I found it! I have recommended it to anybody and everybody that has ever mentioned needing to block phone calls. Edit 6/24/19: This app is no longer free. I am saddened. Thank you for the time you gave me. But still dropped to 2 stars for no warning about cutting us off and not just a one time charge. I would pay $10 once for it, but not a yearly fee. Sorry guys.
The initial version allowed blocking by pick up and hang up, now it goes to voicemail, so they keep calling every day. It looks like the updates work worse than the old version. Not to mention it says it is free, when actually it is not. The caller ID is not free even with the free trial period. I guess I'll look for something else for now.
This app was ok when I first started using. Over time it allows blocked spam to come through like a normal phone call. I have been using for a while and now there is a sudden change to a charge. Since there was no notification and the app doesn't work I will be uninstalling. This is poor planning and horrible customer service. If I could give a negative star I would.
I’ve had this app for years and used to absolutely love it and recommend it to all my friends. Gradually over time it has declined to the point that I’m going to replace it. In the beginning, it identified most incoming calls. Now it IDs those in your contact list and asks you to pay to identify most of the rest. It has also gotten slower and slower, meaning you can actually miss a call before it identifies it. And finally, I had to back up my phone and do a factory reset recently. When I restored the phone and apps, there was no way to log in to my previously free subscription. It demands that I pay for a new subscription, even though the service has declined significantly from the time when it was free. Sorry, I’ve had enough.
I don't like the new updates. Seems like it's making the app worse. I liked it better when it first came out. I can't block numbers that are not already saved in my phone. That function was taken away now I have to block each number that calls as they call. I don't like that. I may try another app until this one gets better. I hate all these unknown numbers that come through that are generated by a computer. Also we used to be able to just have the call rejected and not go to voicemail. Me entire voicemail consist of robo calls.
Work great when it was free. What I didn't like was the way they went about requiring a subscription fee now. No notice. Snuck it through on a update. I found out when it quit working and investigated why. If they would have notified me in advance they were going to require a subscription fee I would have paid to keep Mr. Number. I uninstalled it.
UPDATE:no longer shows me a text message log. Took down two stars for that. ----- No more spam and telemarketers, and no one who's not in my contact list can bother me. It was free the first week I used it then it became a paid app, but at about a dollar a month it's worth it. I own a business and this has been invaluable on cutting down on BS calls from salespeople.
I have had this app for months and it worked. It has now been uninstalled from my phone. When a developer is more interested in money, puts up a subscription wall without even telling all the customers so we could at least get our blocked numbers off, then it is time to move on. If you want something free that works then do not install this app. Not only did it stop working but now you have to pay for it. It is a case of someone developing an app that actually does what it is written to do, then getting high scores and then deciding making money is more important than helping others. There are other apps out there that will work and are still free.
Uninstalled it today. It's a pity because it was a great app. I had recommended it to many people. It was working great then I was suddenly presented with the paywall to continue using it. I definitely would have made a one time purchase for an ad free version but there's no way I'm going to subscribe to a monthly or annual fee. Good luck guys, based on the number of negative reviews that you've had over this fiasco I really don't think there's much of a future for Mr. Number.
Was great for the years I used it (I got it back before it split from Whitepages) and only ever needed the options included in the free version. I was disappointed to open the app today to find a paywall for all functionality without warning. I'd much rather give my money to an app that is upfront and didn't slowly take away free features over the years only to go full pay-to-use. What a shame.
This was a great free app I used for YEARS. They added a paid feature where now some free features are part of a paid $2.99 monthly service. That went on for about a year or so, but features I didn't need. Now after update, 100% of app is $2.99 month after 7 day trial. Now it's UNINSTALLED! If I'm going to pay $2.99 month, I'll just pay my Verizon bill for their paid version. I was trying to save that little bit with your free app. But you went & screwed up a free lunch! Good luck...
I would give this 4 stars if they hadnt changed the setup! It was great for caller ID and identifying potential spam. Not the greatest for blocking bc your phone still rings a few times for blocked numbers. Not at all happy that they're now wanting a subscription. I don't mind paying for it, but I have no desire to be bothered with a subscription. Charge me one time so I can move on with my life - especially if you improve the blocking feature. Well worth it for me. Just not worth a monthly subs
money for less... years ago had more blocking features and search options. now, more calls get through than ever, no searchand you want me to pay? nah. installing. I'd rather pay for an app that does what it says. I only kept it this long because when I change phones I install apps from the memory and got used to it. its almost obsolete in 2019
Giving it 1 star bc it changed to a paid app w/o warning. I downloaded this app a couple years ago as a free app & loved it. It blocked unwanted numbers effectively. Sometime within the last year they changed their model so that you had to subscribe to get caller ID or info on the blocked number, but still had the free version as well. This week I noticed a blocked # has been getting through, so I just opened the app to a paywall. I get wanting to make money but warn folks first. I've unsubbed.
I was using this when it had full features for free. Then slowly things started changing and names were not included in the notification, but if I wanted to pay for it could. Received a notification that your service is no longer free. Thanks for that, you know, since I've been using your app for years.... You guys are not the only blockers out there. Not a very nice way to treat the people who recommended your app to others, and now you want money for a service that has gone downhill over the last few months.
This app use to be great. It would block unwanted calls or text. I loved it. It cut down on robot calls tremendously. However it seems like it is letting these blocked calls get thru to voice mail rather than simply hanging up on them. It's happening more and more. Just had 5 such calls get thru in last two days! Come on guys.... don't let this app go down the tubes. Please fix this. Also... now you want to charge me to identify calls when it's been a FREE feature for so long. Are you kidding??
Been using this app for years mainly as a phonebook kind of thing. I could put a phone number in the app, and it would give me a business, or person name associated with the number. Recently, I can no longer use the app at all without allowing the overlay on incoming calls, which I can't stand that overlay because it blocks the contact name for a couple seconds until the app recognizes that its a contact, and not a spam call. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't pay for this app!
I've used this app for 13 years. It was like $5 a year, but now they tried to pull out $80 a year. I had to cancel and block payment immediately. I really liked the app and never worried about spam. It's very disappointing and very wrong to raise the price from $5 to $8, especially without notice or consent!!!
