Okay so this app is convenient for one way trips. I'll give it that. However, I purchased a round trip for me and a friend and all four tickets showed up to the same place. In other words they all were going the same place and what I bought wasn't a round trip at all and I didnt have tickets to get back. No big deal, I'll get a refund. Well they keep $10 off each ticket. So $20 later and now I have the tickets I originally asked for. Kind of a scam, buy round trips at the ticket counter.
Reviews for MTA TrainTime
← Back to MTA TrainTimeThis app is trash, it does not use any of the password savers that you would have like the Samsung. You have to physically type the card number in, doesn't allow auto fill for any of the information in puts like credit card numbers or you name, not even able to take a picture of the card for the auto fill. The app is just as much trash as the MTA and LIRR.
I made an error on a purchase. I tried to refund and it charged me $10.00 there needs to be an option to refund without penalty if you cancel within 24 hrs. This is very wrong. Suggest you offer this option and make a change ASAP When you purchase a paper ticket you at least have a time to use this in the future. This purchase via phone has some issues to be looked at
I have a pixel 7 pro and theres some screen display issue so when I try to accept the terms and conditions to purchase tickets on the app, I am unable to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to accept the terms. I can get as far down as "I agree to the above and to the Privacy Policy at" Since I can't accept the terms, I'm unable to purchase train tickets. UPDATE: While I still cannot accept the terms, it's no longer a requirement to do so in order to buy the tickets. Kind of fixed..?
DO NOT USE THE APP. It's extremely important to not use the app and just buy your ticket in person. I must have had some error or connection issue when I made my purchase and was charged multiple times for the same ticket. The customer support is very condescending and not helpful at all, they'll just keep dropping you threads that already can find within the app. If you don't make your refund within 2mins after purchase, they will keep $10 of the money as a fee no matter what.
it's soooo much easier, faster and simple, to use the TrainTime app, and follow the rules and suggestions. I don't like the crowded lines nor the rush to find the right ticket and train at the last minute. TrainTime allows me to avoid all that and let's me focus on getting the seat I want, and then get comfortable to watch a movie. TrainTime and chill. 5 stars.☆☆☆☆☆
I bought CityTickets with the belief that I could use them throughout the month, only to read some fine print later that said they were only for daily use. Had to wrangle with customer service for a month to get a refund. Then the app sent me a warning for "activating the ticket on the train" (even though the ticket-takers may not even come to my car), and to top it all off today they locked my account with my tickets, forcing me to pay out of pocket for a ticket. The kiosks are easier to use.
I have an Android and the app doesn't work... period. I can't get train times or buy a ticket. I only get error windows. I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times, it just never works. It ends up costing me because the app doesn't work, I have to buy on the train. Save yourself some money and don't count on the app to work.
It's a basic train app combining the ease of purchasing e-tickets and providing an up-to-date train schedule and notices. All this app needs to do is stay functional and up-to-date, and that's all it needs to get high marks from me. HOWEVER, if they are looking to get the highest praise, allow me to transfer my unused e-tickets to someone else. If they did that they would be perfect.
On multiple occasions, I purchased tickets which, didn't appear until a following day, so they were useless when I needed them. All of these cost less than $10, thus were not eligible for refunds. Most of them were City Tickets, which have to be used on the date puchased lol. I reached out to Customer Service via the app and got a boiler plate response telling me tickets need to be activated before boarding the train and no replies to my additional questions. I literally have to use paper tix.
The app takes forever to advance to the next page. I get an error message on every page. "App not responsive". Once I get to the page to purchase a 10 pack it confirms my selection. Once it's advanced to the payment page the order is doubled. Each and every time this happened. I do everything I know to fix the issue including uninstalling the app and starting fresh with a new download. The attendant stands over me seeing the nightmare I'm dealing with and charges full price cash on a Saturday.
It does what it needs to do in terms o accurately communicating up to date information regarding train times between origin point and destination, and in terms of allowing purchases of tickets. Would be great if it had some additional functioanlity though (for example, the ability to report problems on the train, the ability to give general feedback, the ability to eclare a lost item and associate it with a specific train, etc).
Since the last update with the visual refresh, the app has become completely unresponsive, and as a result, completely unusable. It can take upwards of 30 seconds to a minute for a new screen to load, and it's not clear whether you've pressed the right button. As usual, the payment processing still is broken and throws errors inconsistently, forcing me to log out and log in regularly. I've used the app religiously for four years but something seriously broke for me, and it's quite frustrating.
When you use this app, be careful. They sometimes charge you twice for a ticket. If you report the issue to your bank, MTA will block the eTix account until a manager gets back to you (it takes a long time to hear back). When you have an issue with a payment, contact them first! Avoid getting the app blocked because its hard to get it working again. It's difficult to hear back from a manager, and I've called multiple times.
Like someone said in a May 2023 review, personal settings are getting wiped out every time I open the app. Also, the saved trip/station feature could use some UX attention. The saved station star should show up in more places. There is no saving routes as far as I can tell, only trips. A lot of people probably take the same route but take different trips. I just want to see all the routes (times) in both directions for one route. That would cover about 95% of all I need from the trip tab.
Laggy and slow. The number of times I couldn't purchase tickets, forcing me to pay full price on the train, is unacceptable. Better off just getting physical tickets. 09/05/2023 update: just got charged twice for a Peak ticket. Then I get an error message stating that the ticket couldn't be purchased. I checked my bank account. The payment went through, but the ticket wasn't given? This app gets worse everytime.
Effortless! Saves time and money. One doesn't have to wait on a queue to buy a ticket or get charged extra for buying a ticket on the train. As long as you have wifi, you can put in the stations and one way or round-trip as well as discount statuses and purchase your ticket effortlessly. It also shows you the train times and track number. Since I found this app, I use it everyday I have to go to the city and back.
This is generally a good app, being that I don't need to stop at a machine for a physical ticket. However, I am annoyed that when trying to buy an off peak ticket for an off peak ride, it forces me to purchase a peak ticket. It's easily happened on my last 10-15 purchases. Not cool. I'm being taken advantage of because it's assumed that I don't have the time to make a complaint to have this rectified. Do better.
this app constantly refuses to open on my phone and is so buggy. no other apps have an issue opening and functioning well. it's gotten to the point where I sometimes have to hold up the conductor just constantly trying to open it. seems like such a simple bug to be fixed but there is no option to update. may have to buy physical tickets from now on
it's a little busy, such as with relevant info that should all be together on the same page, split separately from each other on different pages. not very intuitive. besides that, it's very responsive and gets the job done, it's easiest of all to find your train trips, letting you select multiple possible starting points so you can weigh your options based on time.
