Reviews for Nest

I hate this app , every time I open the app, it attempts to make me agree to receive notifications. Sorry, nest ,but I have to rate you even lower. I'm tired of you constantly trying to trick me into giving up control of the thermostat . I do not want the savings. I want my thermostat set at the temperature I enjoy . IF I WAS ABLE TO RATE THIS APP LOWER THEN 1 STAR I WOULD.

3 stars for being able to control your thermostat remotely (not a big deal anymore). But it's been the same exact app for about a decade and all they're doing is ruining once-working features like the Home/Away assist. We'll be home and all of a sudden it will change to Away/Eco mode. The app even acknowledges that our phones are home. Support has been no help. I know the issue is with Nest because we have both android and iPhone. Home/away Assist used to work great, then it went downhill.

This UI could be a little more user friendly. Also, it is in dire needs to have an option to install a widget. Update: I'll be switching to an Ecobee smart thermostat bc Google can't seem to keep its products and services running. I can't rely on them so switching to Ecobee when they discontinue my older Nest thermostat for no reason and attempt to force me and many others to upgrade. ✌️

The camera goes off line a lot for a while it's not my internet because everything else works fine I try to clear the app and go back in and it's still the same it's really annoying when I'm trying to check to see what's going on where my camera is and it's telling me it's offline For no reason other than the app is not working properly. And sometimes it gives me a nothing to report and the screen is just grey.

Many of the Nest thermostat functions appear to be set "On" by default, at least mine were. This presented a problem when I began noticing unanticipated temp swings. My 1st question was, "What the hell is this thing doing?" Eventually, I figured out that nearly every 'automatic' feature needed to be set to "Off" in order for the thermostat to function as I needed it to. In retrospect, a shorter learning curve could have existed had the automatic features default setting been "Off". Still same.

Works great - maybe a little too great. It picks up as "motion" sunlight against a facing wall as the sun sets or rises. Maybe I'll install the wedge to angle it to pick up some sky where the "motion" will be more gradual. Update: Lately the app has stopped working (I can not open the app) if my phone is using a VPN. It requires me to log in but even that doesn't work. This was not always the case.

The schedule interface is really awkward to use. Also, app does a poor job tracking when I'm home (or not). No useful app changes in the past 5 years. The app needs serious updates and fixes. Make the schedule easier to use. Allow me to see a graph of my house temperature throughout the day. You send me a usage email that is a waste of time without data to back it up. Also, give us profiles for each season. I don't know anyone who sets their house to one setting year around.

This app and/or thermostat has a mind of its own, horrible. When you tell the thermostat to do something, it should stay done. As an example, unless it senses motion, it thinks you're not home and tries to turn everything off. Not good if you're sick in bed or on the computer working from home for hours. It's big brother, and a stupid one. Additionally, when it's fully on, sometimes it's a degree above your setting and it still won't turn on the AC.

The app is OK, but the Nest product is maddening because it keeps changing the temperature, warmer in the summer, and cooler in the winter. There is apparently no solution. I was directed to a developer help and requested a phone call within the hours of operation and got "something went wrong, try again." It doesn't work. I then opted for a chat. After listing the problem as the Nest changing temperatures contrary to the schedule, a required drop-down menu of problems did not list this prob

Not enough options on this Nest app. 6yrs after my initial review is still a bare bone smart Thermostat. It cannot be set for a variable speed 98% efficient furnace, not smart enough. when opening yhe app keeps asking to turn on things that are not relevant, no way to turn these question off. There are many other better smart thermostats on the market.

Owned for years and not a single improvement has ever been made. Same glitchy app it's been since day one. This company doesn't care. Bad UI, frequently disconnects from the internet, ridiculously poorly designed scheduling. "Learning thermostat" can't even follow a schedule properly. And now for LITERALLY no reason at all it keeps putting itself into eco mode and not heating my home unless I manually put it back to heating. If it wasn't so expensive I would've thrown it out years ago.

Great addition to the house! Helps you control the environment in the house. Very good! Update: I had to upgrade my router and now the app has old info on it. The telephone number to verify isn't in use anymore. I can't reset that in the app. Google says to, just go to settings in the app. I can't find settings anywhere?! I've uninstalled the app four times and it continues to retain the same info. Help? Update: 2024 December 1. This app seems to automatically turn on the Eco mode it's not off.

Learning mode does NOT work well! I have it set to 68 for heat, and it turns itself on and heats to 70. I'll turn it off at night because I don't like to be hot and I don't trust it to keep the right temp - and I'll STILL wake up to it running and heating my place to 70/71. I turned off learning mode since the previous owner said it caused nothing but problems, and it's STILL causing problems. I do love that I can adjust the temp from my phone, but I feel l have to fuss with it too much.

It's okay, not great. All the learning mode and stuff is nonsense and it doesn't work. The interface is annoying to use. You want the heater to turn on every morning of the week? You have to make 7 changes to the settings. In months, my thermostat has never automatically learned. It keeps a history of your usage but only ten days back. No way to check how it's doing compared to last year, for example. The device itself is not ugly and the twisting interface is nice.

We've had the Yale Nest locks at our home and vacation home for about 5 years and they have worked flawlessly, until I updated to the current app version. Now I get a message " Something went wrong, the app is unable to connect to the Nest device, Try Again, or Cancel". This happens about 75% of the time, I try it. We have a Google Nest Mini, and that can lock the door, even when the phone cannot connect. The app shows them online when this is happening as well.

Presence sensing for home/away assist gets worse and worse. It used to turn the camera on, set the thermostat to eco, and undo that when one of us came home. Now we're lucky if it ever does it at all. The camera comes on when we leave most of the time, but it only turns off half of the time. Eco mode has to be done "manually." update 2+ years later: same. Eco mode changes itself more often now, but the camera does less, so it is about the same.

Been using this for more than 2 years now. Good to have a camera to view outside, but frustrated when the camera alerts came several seconds after whatever/whoever outside passed by. Even when I walked up to the door, the alert came when I already about to enter the house! that at least 4 seconds!! As for records, it often only keeps photos of people walked past, meaning more often than not the photos were of scenery! Only if the person stopped, such as delivery man, then it shown.

Nest works well with Google Home, but two things could improve. 1, give more notice BEFORE the monthly smoke alarm sound check, not after it happens. 2, give more time to tell the app that smoke is from cooking before sounding the alarm - 5 seconds isn't enough time to get the phone out of my pocket, open the app, and figure out how to say it's safe.

The doorbell isn't responsive fast enough. For example, I get a doorbell ring, so I open the app and it tries to connect to the camera. It takes a whole to make a connection. I run fiber to my home so it's not my internet speeds. Usually, by the time it connects, the person is gone. The camera is clear and the sound is good when it is connected, however.

I only use this for the thermostat. It works more or less and I like the reporting, but the scheduling UI is terrible on mobile. i think it was designed for a browser. Its way too small and sensitive for the average mobile user. Initially 3 stars, but it has been this way for YEARS, so dropping to 2. Not interested in any other nest products if they can't get the simple ones right.
