So here's my honest take on New Criterion. I've tested a bunch of arts/culture apps and this one's pretty good. The content is really well-written and covers a ton of interesting topics. I like that it's not just dry academic stuff, there's a good mix of serious criticism and more accessible commentary. At the same time, it can get a little up its own butt at times with the super intellectual language. And the app itself has a few issues - it crashes occasionally and the navigation isn't super intuitive. But if you're into that whole high-brow cultural scene, it's worth checking out.

Pros

  • Tons of great articles on art, literature, music, and more
  • You can download a free sample issue to try before subscribing
  • The writing is really well-done, not just dry academic stuff
  • Covers a nice range of topics, not just the same old stuff

Cons

  • Can get a little pretentious with the language at times
  • App has some bugs and crashes occasionally
  • Navigation is kind of clunky, not the most user-friendly

Description

Been using New Criterion for a couple months now. It’s basically a monthly journal that covers arts and culture. Pretty solid app if you’re into that kind of stuff.

Here’s what you do: you can read articles on all sorts of topics like art, music, books, and more. And there’s also a forum where you can discuss the content with other readers. And the app has a neat feature that lets you download a free sample issue before you subscribe – that’s pretty cool.

Look, if you’re into highbrow arts and culture, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the app can be a little buggy sometimes and the writing can get a bit pretentious. But overall it does the job. Worth checking out if that’s your kind of thing.
