Reviews for Niantic Campfire

While a generally great app, after making a joking comment to someone, it was taken down by a bot for "bullying and harassment", and now if I want to do anything, I have to mess with my screen zoom, and everything I open the app, I get a pop up for the incident. I can't use the app, without going into my settings to make my screen zoom in/out.

this app is great for building communities and getting connected with people in your area for raid and community days. but I downloaded this app for the remote raids, its an awful experience, both for trying to join a raid, or trying to host. wait times to join a raid is often long, and the raids are random, so good luck if youre chasing a specific boss. then hosting can be awful, because there will be 5 or more sitting in the queue, if youre lucky, maybe 2 will join, but then leave.

I opened the app, did all the sign in requirements, and everything was working fine, but the app just kept on telling me to download Pokemon Go, which I already had downloaded. It still does, and makes it unable for me to access most features for the only reason I downloaded Campfire. whenever I clicked the button, to see if I could fix it / troubleshoot, it just opened my Pokemon Go app, and didn't fix anything. Haven't been able to use it for the only reason I downloaded it.

Some useful functions, but its buggy and poorly supported. A slight change in zoom or slight shift in the view often causes items to randomly appear & disappear on the map. In-game events are often not reflected on the map, still showing the previous content that is not accessible. New features take many months to be included. New in game content (eg, new creatures) often have no image or description because they haven't bothered to add them yet.

Inconsistencies! Surprise surprise! Multiple raids that are shown aren't actually there especially some gigantamax raids. I wanted to look at area and every 5 seconds it asked me to turn on my location. Every 5 seconds is not an exaggeration... just let me look at the map without having my location on! Instead I just had to block location.

This app is ment to help you connect with other players, but the message system is so buggy it basicly wont work. I've turned notifications on and off a dozen times. I have never once been notified. So in order to use the app you basicly have to open amd close the app constantly to watch for replies inevitably give up only to then receive a reply but you have moved on to the next thing and never actualy meet up with other players. The only reason I keep it is for the raid map.

As of a recent update, the app now apparently requires you to enable WiFi scanning to find a location. The only reason this would be a requirement is if Niantic/Scopely are also getting this information. There is no reasonable functional requirement for this, it's just Niantic/Scopely trying to get more data without paying for it or offering anything in return. The app is broken and non-functional for me now.

Eta: I had to completely uninstall and reinstall to get it to allow me to join a group or w/e. And this is on steady wifi as the only active device, so I know it isn't a signal issue. How the fresh hell is this app supposed to even work? I am positive something is wrong with mine as it isn't loading quickly, and you can't do anything on it.

Too clunky to navigate with Pogo, super annoyed that I can't limit the gyms I get notifications for either. I'll help out on a flare I can get to nearby, but a 15 minute drive is not close by and I don't want to keep getting notifications for every flare that's lit in a 7 mile radius, especially when people hang out at the raid and keep lighting it. Ultimately only good for the expanded map, the chat is too disorganized to be of any use because it's not well integrated with pogo at all

Latest version has made this app become frustrating to find a certain kind of raid. Used to be that you could filter and get a list of the selected raids. Now it's only map based and very frustrating since they only show up if you are zoomed in close... and even then not all the raids show up at the same time. Bring back the list of filtered raids!

Since the update, this app feels a bit dead. Seems a bit harder to try to find and set up a raid with people in the community. Like lighting a flare within a 1km of that gym, but sometimes I won't have a raid within 1km of me so it's to hard to let others know that I'm interested in a raid and if anyone else is as well...I'm sometimes driving 10-15 mins away from where I live to even to attempt for some raids(shadow), there also needs to be more, always a wait for the next raid to pop up next

I've tried it after a long time of being on hold. It's barely useful. 95% of the time, I have better chance of finding a team for raids in other apps. You know which ones I mean. This app barely helps me find players around me, how about a feature that actually does raids and not just this plain old system. Maybe it'll help people find each other quicker, don't get me started on the remote raid pass prices. As if raiding remotely is any help.

It's alright, nothing to write home about. It's just an app like Discord, but for Pokémon GO. Might I suggest that you add additional information for your profile, like your best buddy, favorite Pokémon, main team, etc. It'll definitely give people (mostly friends) more reason to use it, especially if it's now integrated with the Pokémon GO app.

Not exactly impressed. Feels like a Discord alternative, but less used and not quite as many features. I'd like the option to turn off friend requests because apparently can't say so in screen name and there's not an option to set it as a status... Most of the group I'm a part of uses a different app altogether and only use this for finding raids.

It's a good concept and we'll overdue but it's also very invasive. It consistently notifies you of every flare nearby and the options to turn it off don't work. I'm still receiving them. Also some of those flares that I get notified on aren't even close by, so adding a distance option would be better, because saying nearby and it being a physical hour away is not one the same, especially here in NYC.

This app could be a lot better with minor improvements. The first problem has to do with timing and distance defaults. the app only lets you light a flare at a nearby stop for 10 minutes. At the same time, it will notify you of any flares lit within a several mile radius. In many cases, it is simply not possible to get to a location that has a lit flare before the 10 minute timer runs out. This defeats a main purpose of the app. The icons are also not intuitive, and the chat feature lags a lot.

This is a great idea, it's just that the app sucks!!! I can go where someone lights a flare. It doesn't show my location correctly, at all...EVER!!!! So I can't light any flares......also, with Niantic making these stupid "local only" raids, I can't invite anyone!!!!! So between the 2 apps, I haven't been able to get any new "Regis".......

Messages randomly decide that they can't be sent and you aren't given the option to copy and resend them. The raiding queue never works. When you check into meetups you are now forced to pick one reward path instead of being able to select from multiple. Barely anyone who plays Niantic games uses the app, as it is never advertised. Alot of these features should have been built into games like Pokemon GO in the first place, instead of horribly constructed in a separate app. Disappointing.

Overall its okay at launch. It's a solid concept. Wish the map would show what team had control of the gyms. Wish the interface was easier to navigate. Finally, there should be a way to overlay on top of pokemon go. I Want to be able to see text and convers as I'm making my way to a raid. If the developers continue to work on this app, it could be a great addition to their games.

I really like the app for a variety of reasons, especially connecting users. However, it could be more user friendly by fixing things like member search and adding things like the ability to sort group members. It would also be nice if you could link Campfire messaging to POGO, so you can click a friend and message them without having to search for them on Campfire, which also doesn't seem to work.
