The worst camera system on the market. The notifications do not match up to the app when you tap on the notification there is nothing there. Some recorded events are blacked out. You also get notifications hours later after it recorded an event. Like how is this a security device? People will be long gone with your stuff before a notification gets to you. 😡

Sometimes it only shows me live feed but I can't see earlier recordings. I hate this app. It's bad enough I have no sound on my monitor. Can never get help when I call.
hardly ever let's you look at past events. app is getting worse. cameras are fine, but the app is constantly saying it can't load or crashes. A complete waste of money over the years of having this system. Our Amazon camera app works better. Probably going to get rid of our night owl system because this app never wants to work.
They have great camera systems and easy to run app but unfortunately they watermark their logo across the top right corner of your videos blocking a clear view AND no option to remove it. When you open the app, it always asks you if you want to turn on your Bluetooth and connect the app to the DVR so when you're away, there's no need to so why does it ask you every time it opens??? VERY ANNOYING!!!
After having the cheapest cameras Walmart sells, I thought buying an actual outside cam would be a better option, I don't like that it only records for 30 seconds even if there's still motion. After the last update, all the secondary motion (in red on the timeline) was obviously removed. Now I hate this camera. Update: After the last software update, my SD card is no longer working. I've even tried formatting it but it won't. it says it was successful, but nothing changes
App was updated and now there's difficulties connecting in the app. The app could be more user friendly and can use a upgrade visually. The camera quality is good but could definitely be better. The software for the recorder is just as bad as the old MS-DOS. I'd really like if you could have an option to view all active cameras at the same time and not just specific channels. I only have 4 camers and 1 wifi. I'd like to see them full size and not black squares for cameras that aren't connected.
When I purchased this system a few years ago it worked just ok, now it has so many issues from cameras not recording at time of motion to not being able to connect to the app, seems like every week when my system does it's update something else gets messed up, I've invested a ton of money into this system with add on cameras, solar panels for charging etc.. trying to contact support is a nightmare and getting any help with issues is nearly impossible, Invest your money elsewhere!!!
Not sure if it's the recent update, but lately this app is not connecting. The first time I uninstalled it, and it was fine for a short time, then started again by not connecting, so I restarted my phone, and it worked fine for about two connections, then it would stop again, so I restarted my phone again, and it would work for another two times, then quit. This needs to be checked out to find out what is going on. Very frustrating. I Just uninstalled it's not worth this much hassle
overall the system works great, had mine for almost 2yrs with no major problems. sometimes it is a bit laggy trying to open the app and you have to close it and try again but that's really it. also if you hold the time slide indicator during a clip it plays beyond the indicated recorded time to see more action, wish it just recorded longer clips when the motion is still active. but other than that it works great.
not what I expected. I thought that I would get timely picture notifications from the cameras, this isn't so, there is sometimes up to a three or four hour lag. but the time you get it whatever was going has long since went away or stopped. I have some cellular cameras and they are near instantaneous in notifications. obviously night owls servers are not up to par with the traffic they receive. I'm going to be looking for other cameras for outside, possibly they will all be cellular.
Great system and the Bluetooth interface makes set up a breeze. App setup took less than 15 minutes and everything works. Latest update has made loading feeds much faster. I went through 4 requests to clarify this issue, what they consider "color", the areas in the blue grid or outside... this needs to be made more clear in the app when setting up activity zones. The app also needs work as it detects "pixel" changes and sends alerts, also get human alerts when no human is in the feed
new update yeah you can get to the screen selection faster but still up to 5 minutes and several reloading to connect. and still have it pop up every 3 to 5 seconds of not connected popping up choose close app or wait while watching alert video. the app is still useless. it's the app not the device itself. I've already gone through everything done extra updating double-checking everything. app can't connect. spent a few hundred dollars on this. really need this damn thing working right.
i was hoping this camera system would be much better than it is. the picture is very high quality, but the software is so very slow and glitchy. half the time, it will not even load up, and when you do get in to look at the video, there are lots of missing segments where you needed it most. most of the time when i get it to start loading up, it will all of a sudden say "oops something went wrong" and then not do anything. if they could fix the glitches and speed it up then it might be good.
I don't believe all of the dissatisfaction comes from the app but at least half of it. The Night Owl camera system takes the other half of the blame. It's obvious no matter how well an app is developed, (not referencing this one) it doesn't make a crummy product good. Do yourself a favor, don't download this app !! If you are just at the unboxing state and setting up, don't bother and send it back
The live view is OK. Trying to see anything that happened before is out of the question. It won't load. "It says oops something went wrong". It doesn't give you a way to fix it. Sometimes it says "There are no events today". My house got broken into and the damn camera recorded a bird that flew by but not the guy that broke in. Its infuriating. currently on the market for a different system. Lots of money down the drain
when I first got it, it was great. but lately, nothing but problems. "There are no events today" is what I find most times on my cameras. I used to have to unplug them to get them to record events again, but now that won't even fix it. and a new problem just started when the spot lights won't come on at night when it does decide to record. They boast 4k but not likely. I'll be changing these out very soon for anything different. I had Arlo before, and they were great. too bad 👎
I don't know what's going on with this app'. ALL of my past events are gone, I get notifications late, if I get them at all, and if I do get notified, sometimes, it'll tell me event not found. What is going on with this app', and why are you taking so long to fix it? Seems like technology is just being sold as false advertisement, these days. These cameras suck and the app' is even worse.
This will be the 3rd company I have gone through for my home. I have had some of the same issues with Google and Ring. All my systems gave false notifications constantly no matter how I set up the notifications. My biggest complaint is that recordings are slow to start and don't always catch the full event. and that's with wired, not wireless cameras.
only reason Im giving 4 stars instead of 5, is because the talk back is horrible. The person on the other side of the camera can't hear what you are saying. I also don't like that the spot light only stays on for a few seconds . Other than that, night owl is a very good camera system. I also like the fact that I can add up to 4 additional cameras to my existing 4. There are several options when it comes to a rotating camera and a still setting camera. They all have great clarity and quality.
I believe there is a lot of room for improvement, concentrating more on the camera quality and more detailed adjustments for the cameras. sensitivity and recording are near flawless, though I have had issues with the hardrive being undetected a time or two. the wireless cameras lose wifi connection often, more than other cameras we use. night/day vision also fails rather quickly after installation. im not impressed with the zoom quality as it is very pixelated. it can better. much better.
