PSA If you are having trouble connecting and getting all kinds of data server errors. Tech support says you need to turn off wifi and run the app with mobile data. Got a shoulder a shrug when I asked why. But info is correct even three months later. Turn off wifi and it magically works. Have tried on all kinds of wifi. No dice. Silly restriction that needs to be fixed.
Reviews for NJ TRANSIT Mobile App
← Back to NJ TRANSIT Mobile AppI have had to uninstall and reinstall like 6 times since the most recent update. It has not been letting me log in consistently. For an entire day all my unexpired tickets were saying they expired and I couldn't use them. After a day and another reinstall, they reappeared. I've been unable to log in today. I want to buy and use tickets through this app and I'm unable to. If it's not going to work, what's the point?
Every time I try to create an account it says "received stale request, rejecting". No option to create an account via the website. Unable to use app. No contact form available other than app feedback. Can't use the app without an account and the app won't allow me to create an account. It says it will send a confirmation email but never does, it jumps right to "received stale request, rejecting".
The app is terrible. It took over 15 minutes just to make an account because anytime I left the app to get my confirmation code, my session expired. Then it tried telling me that the email I was using already existed, so I tried signing in with the same password and it went to "this email hasn't been verified yet." And basically an endless loop of wishful thinking that maybe *this* time it would work. I eventually just logged into my email on my work phone instead...
I like the app & it's convenient- but sometimes I get locked out, or the app is having issues & I cannot access my ticket when I need to. Also, since the e-ticket only lasts for an hr, if there is an issue or delay - my e-ticket may expire before I can use it. But for the most part, the app makes travel more convenient, allowing commuting ease when purchasing tickets for transportation.
For past few days, as soon as I click any menu, it crashes. My favorite is gone. On the app., I purchased may mobile tickets , I am afraid they may be all gone. I tried to reboot and it still crashes. What happened if I clear cache? Will my purchased tickets will be gone? Terrible in deed. ----------- I emailed customer service and their response is very effective. They re-import my data and I am able to recover by install and reinstall this app. That fixed the issue.
This does not concern the latest version. I have not updated the app in about a year, and it worked fine until yesterday, when it would not let me sign in to activate a ticket I had bought just 2 days earlier. I clicked sign in, it twirled for a moment, then said Server Timeout, try again later. I had to re buy the ticket, and I would like a refund for the $15 tickets I will never be able to use, apparently.
The good: easy to buy and use tickets. Easy to find next train except it gets confused if a train is boarding. When you enter the beginning of a station name, it pares down the long list of stations to match what you've typed so far. A new feature is very bad: it leaves your password typed in, so the authentication feature is worthless.
The update is a disaster for using the map to track buses! Dump the Stations tab and restore the Map functioning! Did you even test it?! Also, there's a lot more "unable to process your request" now. For a long time, the tracker doesn't work about a third of the time because buses are invisible, and I have to call on the phone to ask where the bus is, and can they log the bus in to the tracking, which usually they can't. I agree with another reviewer that the app is not friendly to newbies.
The app sucks. I can't process split pays. I can't setup alerts. I can't get the ticket to show in portrait mode. I emailed and was given a number to call. Those people aren't technical and had no way to resolve anything. Oh yeah, I uninstalled/re-installed, cleared my cache and data. There's no split pay options bcz of glitches. They also have no clue regarding alerts. GOOD JOB OVER THERE!
Most of the time, the app works well. However, I recently tried to apply one of their Round Trip promotions, and the app kept giving me an error. It's possible that the promotion is only applicable to normal Adult tickets (I qualify for their Senior fare), but if that is the case, they should clearly state that on their website.
I would've given the app 5 stars but the trains that run in this state are the worst in the world. Always delays, trains break down constantly. Then there's the issue of overcrowdness on trains when they don't run on time, you buy a ticket off the app, the conductors can't get around to collect/check the tickets, you're stuck with a paid ticket that you're not using again after 30 days(or worse, once you've activated the ticket and not checked, after 2 hours), you can't get refunded.
The app works and doesn't crash. It does display times and routes. What is very frustrating from a train app is that it does not seem to display the track number. Also seemingly silly is that once you have mapped your train route it does not seem to allow you "click this route and purchase the ticket" you have to go back to the purchase ticket pathway. I guess the app takes after New Jersey as a whole. So close to greatness. But not actually great.
It's ok, but buggy. Sometimes it has trouble with the ticket section or processing payments. I always have to travel with a backup plan for payment because the app can't be fully trusted. Then once it has trouble with tickets you will continue to get the same error until you uninstall and reinstall the app. It's pretty bad. Some of the UI isn't very intuitive. It asks for my location, but I say "no" because I don't trust the app. Then it asks again the next day and every day and it's annoying.
App randomly stopped letting me buy tickets. MyTix is not available, try again later. Doesn't matter what credit card I use. Left me sweating on a bus stop until I figured out I could tap on with a credit card. You would think the driver would mention that. But maybe it's for the best, the tickets expire so quickly I think their business model is charging for service they didn't provide.
This is my first experience using a commute app in New Jersey. This is doing the best but I feel there is fine tuning the application. based on my experience for a week. what i feel is that, the route choosen for 811 my regular route here i the bus stop is coming in order. I belive so. even while writing the comments I have checked it carefully, the bus stop number and the name for the route and destination is not in sequence. for sure. if you need more clarity reach me. rest all👍
Just got the app a few days ago and I've used it several times. It's been good at giving me options and letting me buy tickets. Sometimes searching for bus stops is hard because they are listed alphabetically, and street names can be similar in several towns. Also, I'd like it to be easier to see a map for a bus route to be sure I'm heading towards the best stop depending on my location.
App gets frozen often! Have to reinstall often! doesn't always remember my payment options so I have to pull out my card and do it all over again. getting specific instructions to travel is not the best either, as far as timetables ,fares and clear instructions. Alerts interruptions and service is not in real time either. you often have to go online to search what's going on with New Jersey Transit from third parties news outlets.
It WAS a pretty handy app to buy tickets from my phone until it stopped working randomly and not taking any of my cards. It even charged me and didn't give me a ticket which I had to end up buying again at a station. I also wish there was some guide as it was pretty confusing when I first moved to NJ/NY and attempted to navigate the app. Overall a potential effective app but lacks the guidance and constantly declines purchases. I'd say just stick to buying tickets in person so you're not robbed
Update 7/30/25- This app stinks. Allow me to give them one suggestion at a time. Put the stops in order of the route, not alphabetical. Another one: At a bus stop, you can text for the next upcoming bus. I texted the number with my station ID. They sent me a survey. The survey is expired. Another one will be issued in several months. Because the app tries to do too many things, it does nothing well. 12/7/24 Still one star. Stop asking me to rate you, until you make meaningful fixes.
