Free' s so good I almost didn't upgrade. But I'm glad I did. Best, cleanest weather information out there. edited (added) After years of using this great app, I still love it. It is very easily configured for your preferences. The information is as accurate as is available - straight from NOAA. Radar maps are included. Daily or hourly forecasting. - your choice. Very easy to use and understand whether you're a spotter, a Mom, a commuter, a tech junkie or a kid wanting to know if it'll rain!
Reviews for NOAA Weather Unofficial (Pro)
← Back to NOAA Weather Unofficial (Pro)Great brief summary (in words) for each day and night for 7 days. The hourly tab has a graph that some may not like, but the icon in the bottom right changes the format to a more common hourly breakout. Seems to be more accurate than many apps other people use. I traveled two states away last weekend. This app said they were getting 3 inches of snow. My friend who lives there said the tv news claimed they might get a dusting. They got 3 inches that night, and more accurate all weekend.
First the Good. I like that this app gives both verbal and graphic representations of the forecast. Now the Bad. The app should allow me to enable real time alerts since it uses NOAA weather. It would be much more useful if it sounded and alarm for the same weather alerts as I get on my old weather alert radio. Also, the weather maps should allow me to watch the upcoming predictions, not just the weather that has already passed. For an example of what I mean, take a look at the Windy app.
Used this app for years and always find it to be more accurate than all other weather apps, probably because it pulls from NOAA. It's a shame that NOAA doesn't have international data, as I have to rely on less accurate apps when I travel to EU. Wish the history of hourly stats feature would come back. It's been unavailable for several months now and I miss being able to check historical data for my saved locations.
My preferred app for weather. UI/graphics & widget need some polishing. The line graph allows you to choose which weather elements to show (temp, precip chance, cloud cover %, etc.) and displays them all at the same time, which is great. Other apps have similar graphs, but not as good. I've used many weather apps and prefer this one specifically because of the graph feature.
NOAA's satellites, dopler installations, and computer modeling are the basis for nearly all other weather apps, television meteorologists, etc. NOAA does the heavy lifting while the rest just add "window dressing". The interface is simple, the customizable maps and graphs are useful, and the NOAA forecast "discussions" are a great way to become familiar with meteorological terminology. I don't do anything outside without checking this app first. Buy the paid version for the best experience.
This is an actual weather app, with accurate predictions from real meteorologists and any weather data you could ask for. This is NOT a weather company's ad revenue vector (like the weather channel). Update: I've been using this app for an extraordinarily long time and, while it is relatively functional, the past year or so the radar has been very spotty, Not loading in the majority of the time.
I now have to preface my review to warn that I repeatedly have to re-upgrade. Upgrading once wasn't enough for them. App frequently blocks access to my additional locations unless I upgrade - AGAIN. Making me pay each time. It's unfair to make me pay repeatedly.... It's DISHONEST. Otherwise, the app has been excellent, but I'm not sure I can actually recommend anymore. Maybe just the free version.
Excellent simplicity! This app has a widget which shows the current temperature. With one touch on this widget, I get a graph showing temperature, cloud cover, wind, and other quantities of my choosing extending over the next hours and days. I've tried many other weather apps, but none have delivered such a clear, cogent, and concise interface. A joy to use!
This is the only weather app I have, and I've had it for years. The graphic and the headings for each day give me a quick picture of the next few days. Then I read the text for more accurate info. I have both the free versions and the paid. I like that the pd. Version can have many locations. I use that mainly when I travel. But I like the radar graphics on the free version better because it's ts easier to see my location. This is a great weather app.
The best weather app around. I recommend it to friends and family that are still using alternative apps, websites or (ugh) the local t.v. station for their weather needs. Being able to seemlessly switch between the 10-day forecast, the precipitation/temp/wind graph, and the radar is fantastic. The app also allows you to save a other locations so I can easily check the weather where my parents live, for example, or the job site I'm working at for the next 3 weeks. Sometimes it's a little slow. 🤷
Love this app. Easy to quickly get the info I need. Is actually updates and has accurate forecast (US). I was an avid Weather Timeline user for years, but got tired of inaccurate forecasts and the weather not updating. The only thing this is missing is alerts for severe weather. It shows them in the temperature notification, but you don't get an audible alert. It does tell you that in the description though, so I knew this going on. Perfect app!
This is the app! You found it! It has no equal! Quick, concise, and to the point... It's my go-to weather program on my handheld! And developer attention to detail and timely updates are absolutely unparalleled! Not to mention the way he sneaks in cool new features every now and then as he constantly adapts to different data feeds and formats. Outstanding!
With the recent update, they are FORCING me to receive weather alerts! I don't want any more damn alerts on my phone and I PAID for this version of the app! If I don't allow alerts, I can only have a single weather location. If I tap the screen to see my other locations' forecast, I'm taken to their permissions screen to allow alerts :( Also, current conditions have rarely been visible for about 10 months. Figured they'd fix that by now, but no.
This is an excellent app. The options of forecast, hourly, and map are great. Having the option of adding multiple locations is nice for traveling and keeping track of weather details in selected other places. you're informed by warnings, watches and forecast discussions. You can choose the weather details you want to monitor. My only complaint has been the color used for humidity and dew point on hourly. I'm red/green color blind and cannot read the data on the dark background.
I have used this app for years. I finally added the pro app for a vacation with multiple locations over several weeks. I love it with only one small gripe. When I look at the technical weather reports, some of the abreviations I don't understand. That is not the fault of the app. Even the newspapers have degraded to less information than the app provides.
Just realized I've had this app for like 10 years over four separate devices and have never had any major issues with it. The one time I did have to reach out, the developer was quick to get back to me with very detailed help. I've always had two weather apps installed; this being the one that is consistently reliable, hasn't drastically changed up the UI, etc like most apps tend to do. I'm now without a 2nd weather app because this is the last good one left for my needs. It's perfect.
I like the paid version of the app. (no ads). The weather is really unpredictable in Michigan. Instead of relying on a local weather news organization where their are a ton of ads, I've come to use and rely on the weather forecasts at NOAA exclusively. From past experience, I would give them a 95% accuracy rating. Their not perfect by any means, but I can trust them when I need accurate information.
It's good when it works properly. The current conditions feature doesn't update for weeks at a time for some reason, not even if I manually update it. Come on guys... maybe if that's due to a specific weather station being down you could reprogram the app to search for the next closest station that actually has data to report. Also, could you considder adding a lightening strike feature option to the live map???
I enjoy the app to some degree. but the mapping weather is not accurate enough to use for planning my route. also there's no future prediction in the map. that is a very useful feature that other apps have. I also question how accurate current temperature are. they don't match other apps. I love the graft though. and I like the hour to hour.
