Just updating my previous rating of 3 stars back to 5 as I've found the previous issue I had had nothing to do with the app nor with Nord's VPN service at all (and I managed to fix it separately). Not sure if their previous reply offering help remains after the review update, so I'd confirm they also offered tech support (which I didn't use because I mistakenly believed the issue to be a standard limitation of their service, but it wasn't). So, again, great service and everything works fine.
Reviews for NordVPN – fast VPN for privacy
← Back to NordVPN – fast VPN for privacyWell... it's a VPN. On the bright side, it's protected me from lots of trackers and sketchy sites. On the not-so-bright side, I constantly have to go into the app to reconnect to a new server since I constantly get disconnected. For context, on really bad days, I'll need to refresh it multiple times in a single YouTube short. I've had a Nord subscription for around a year now (if memory serves me right) but I feel like it has gotten FAR worse as of recent. I hope they can fix the disconnecting.
Every time the app needs an update, its shuts off my connection and I get an error message saying that my "account limit was reached" and that I need 2 sign in thru my Google Play account. I never made 2 separate accounts: my email and Google Play subscription should all be associated to the same account. This is the 3rd time this has happened in the last few months, after never having any previous issues with it. Their support was also completely useless and just repeated the same thing.
I run NORD on a variety of devices including my Android phone, a Chrome Book, several Fire Sticks and 2 Windows computers. I have found the security it provides comforting. I have had to open a number access points for a number apps that do not work through a VPN. I have also had a number of issues on my desktop with reports of a file with multiple file extensions, but it will not assist me in locating and dealing with that issue. I would recommend Nord VPN if you have security issues.
This app will shove ad notifications down your throat. Literally every day I get emails (not a big deal) and notifications (a deal-breaker) soliciting services and products I am not interested in. I have very few notifications on my phone and only want to receive them if they are actually things that require my attention, not yet another way that companies bombard me with ads. I am paying $99/year for this service. It is not free. It should not be ad-supported.
It was a 4* app. Worked for what I needed, even though it slowed down my connection 20% and is not the easiest to set up on multiple devices. Now that they are getting rid of meshnet I won't have use for the app as those were the best features that were hard to find anywhere else. It was good while it lasted...
I live in Germany most of the time; when I turn on VPN there, Frankfurt is selected for me—that's understandable. But if I'm in another country, Finland, Spain, or even the USA or Vietnam, and I turn on a quick connection, then for some reason Germany is selected; that's definitely not the best option. If I turn on NordVPN, the speed immediately drops significantly. After a year of use, I canceled the subscription
this app is horrible!! it did not perform as intended. it was significantly slow no matter what I tried. & they DO NOT reimburse you if you request refund, unless bought from actual site. if downloaded from Google play store they'll tell you you don't not fall under the refund policy. this is in regards to the phone app. I can't speak for PCs
I was offered a 3 day free trial with a discounted yearly rate. after accepting the trial it immediately charged my account for the full year at the full price. I tried getting a refund when I noticed a $100 transaction hit my account 2 minutes later but it was denied. I will never use this service again. not even during the year I was charged for.
Truth be told, this app SUCKS! Works nothing like the PC version. It won't allow connectings to anything from Amazon, bank apps, store apps, or games. You have to constantly pause to gain access. White listing these apps defeats the purpose of masking my IP address. Needs a lot of work. Unstalling until they get it right.
Nord has removed their "Report a problem" link from the app and I have spent the last 10 MINUTES on their Help site trying to find out how to open a case! "Contact Us" just leads back to Help Center! Enter email to start chat gets "(ErrorPrefix) This doesn't look quite right" but it's my Nord login email! I've been a paying customer for YEARS but if this doesn't get resolved I won't be for much longer.
It will randomly get stuck "connecting", blocking all notifications and, occasionally, even texts. The VPN connections are hit or miss. They'll randomly slow down, and I'll have to refresh my connection. The mobile version is garbage, honestly. It works fine on my computers. I would have switched providers a long time ago if I hadn't paid for an annual subscription. I highly recommend going with a different VPN provider.
Easy to use but the phone app doesn't allow or show which state is in use. That addition would be great. Thanks. This is an update on the desktop interface. I do not like it because you can't open the different regions and countries. Please back the old interface it was better thank you. Another to update... I reinstalled from the website and the original interface shows all the processes. Much better.
I'm leaving feedback here for the desktop app because there's no feedback option anywhere on it or on the webpage. The UX of the desktop app keeps getting worse. The map was way more useful than a search bar. The new drop down to pause the connection which HIDES the disconnect button is the last straw. There are two main functions that should be front and center in your UI connect and disconnect.
EDIT: To those who end up with the same problem, go straight to the Help Center LIVE CHAT, skip going to the other stuff, and they'll settle it quickly. They handled my issue in like five minutes. OLD REVIEW: It took my payment but it is saying I am logged in on a different account than my Google Play so I can't use the features I paid for, when I AM on the correct account. It's just randomly decided that it wants to stop working now.
Really annoying that I have to turn on notifications to get my connection status to show in my notification bar, but then i get constant obnoxious marketing notifications that I do not want to receive, and I can't enable one without the other. edit: down to 1 star, every time I open the app it asks to enable notifications now. every. single. time.
"Voicemail error". What a doozy, I've not received any voicemails for the past week once I installed this. I put two and two together and realized this started once I installed the app. It works great on laptop, but a big NO on my mobile device. I turned it off and all my voicemails came flooding in from a week ago. Edit: In case anyone else has that issue. I'm new to VPN for mobile. "Split Tunneling" is the answer. You can exclude apps you don't want the VPN to interfere with.
This service does what it says. My ISP was randomly blocking stuff I normally use or access for NO REASON and with no warning. The only issue I have with the app is that it gets stuck on connecting and stays there. This is a common known issue that Reddit forums have been talking about. I don't think it's my connectionn which is extremely stable and fast. A good feature would be one that allows the app to recognize its stuck on connecting and to change servers after, say, 30 seconds.
Excellent fast connections the vast majority of the time. On the rare occasions you connect to a dragger, it's quick and easy to reconnect for a better speed. But you should be able to turn on automatically when you connect to any wifi BUT my home network. I know *my* wifi is secure, any others should be automatically VPN protected.
It definitely slows your connection down. Also... You want the notifications on so you know what's going on... But they take advantage of that by bombarding you with promotional ads via app notification. Every day I get 2-4 notifications about promotional pricing (I already signed up for a year), dedicated IP, whatever else they want more money for. And you can't opt to turn them off without ignoring the entire app. Pretty shady really, definitely not re-upping or telling anyone to subscribe.
