Reviews for NZ Topo50 Offline – South

For the cost this app is quite disappointing. The maps seem old and outdated, multiple huts that are shown have since been removed. Some trails have details but its only about 50% of them. I've found Gaia to be about just as useful in NZ

Great app, use it all the time when hunting. But, the points or POI need improving. When creating a new point, there should be a 1-touch manouvre, which should mark the user's position, and not the 'cross' position. Also is there a way of displaying the point names on screen. ALSO, the top menu should default to distances instead of coordinates. Who uses coordinates?

Great app has worked perfectly for me so far, it would be great though if you could add an option to put an overlay over the map showing doc land and national parks like on the online doc maps but go one step further and have an overlay for public and private land as well that would be absolutely amazing.

Gps and tracking is very accurate. Topographic map is OK. There should be an option to change from "north up" to "track up". Also being able to create way points by tapping on the screen would be handy. I only managed to store the way point of my current location. The compass doesn't work. Turning west over North the N symbol turns to W and vice versa. It tells me from North to East is a 120 degrees???? The degree number seems to be ok. An option from true to magnetic would be good too.

Super good. My wish would be that we could switch on overlays with general public land parcels such as DOC areas (not just hunting areas), and also regional reserves and parks. Banks Peninsular is a great example, many public reserves there and tracks that we can't view on this map.

Works well. Would really love the ability to download high res satellite overlay for smaller areas. Zoming in on the current satellite image can be poor quality to see small festures. Also the ability to import images with gps data as waypoints would be usefull. Overall good app that i use alot hunting.

Would be a great app but some basic functions don't work for me. E.g. tracking stops after 5-20 minutes (so i cannot track walking progress at all), cannot mark a place (strange, on my partners phone it works both androids). I also don't understand why it so clumsy to find my location on map, pressing to buttons. Otherwise it would be great but because of these problems I would rather choose to get my money back.

Super handy app I have been using this instead of a GPS for hunting. Seems very accurate I find the DOC hunting block boundrys very useful particularly in the molesworth and Stewart island where the blocks are small and difficult to identify. Also very handy how you can add points for marking animal sightings camps ect. One feature I would like to see if possible would be the ability to see/download a Google earth/satellite image overlay to certain chosen parts of the map. To aid planning.

Uses about 2GB of storage (just for the South Island maps). If you have the spare space on your phone then this is nicer to use than apps that allow you to manage offline downloads of maps manually. The interface is nice and simple to use, personally I prefer this app to BackCountry Navigator. Unfortunately this app forces itself to fullscreen and has no option to disable this. This makes it difficult to switch apps if your phone doesn't have physical buttons.

Travelling around New Zealand and completing a couple of great walks, including on Stewart Island, this app was invaluable and saved buying numerous paper maps. It accurately located us, relied on GPS only and never let us down. It provides precise co-ordinates and bearings at the top of the screen and indicates phone orientation. We used it mainly while tramping. Excellent bit of kit.
