Good app and great OBD2 connector. I purchased Toyota enhanced package for this, which provides access to all sensors. Only negative is difficulty of accessing customer service. They don't provide any phone number and you have to go through email over multiple days, which is slow and requires lots of patience. However, they were nice and through via email.
Reviews for OBDLink (OBD car diagnostics)
← Back to OBDLink (OBD car diagnostics)Great information. Connected to my G37 no problem. Config of dashboard is very flexible but the tradeoff is that it's a little complicated to use. When there's only one device available it should auto-connect. After auto-connecting to the device it should automatically use the correct car profile based on the VIN it's getting from the device.
Greed? Got this adapter because it was the best. Unfortunately no free lunch as enhances codes cost $9.99 per make, and per year!! I personally have several vehicles and it would be more coat effective buying an adapter with this support out of the box (nevermind if you buy a new car). Simple app and interface is just that but you can do the uaual check and clear codes.
OBDLINK MX worked well straight from the package. Uploaded my specific add ons with no problem. Still getting used to the features. Bluetooth set up confusing, make sure to press the little button on the adapter to link to your phone or device. Does not say that in the instructions. other than that great product. Still need to test on a vehicle that has Check Engine Light.
When it works awesome. However I used it a few time no issue. Pulled it out maybe a year later and keep getting this persistent error message thing. It would force close on my phone. I grabbed my chomebook and was able to get it to connect and there was a firmware update. That fixed the issue it now works. So try either your phone or a different android device that has Good strong internet. It made me register device and it fixed itself with the error msg.
This is the second device I have used. The first one was bricked after I followed the prompt to do a firmware update. The customer service was excellent, and they sent a replacement to me quickly, without requiring me to send the bad one back. It will occasionally lose pairing. When that happens it pairs again quickly. It won't pair with 4 digit Bluetooth code. Because of that, I have to use the app on my phone instead of my car stereo receiver that runs on Android OS.
Overall, this is a fairly decent app and device. My only complaint is that it didn't detect any additional items from my vehicle, but since Jeep (or any Chrysler product for that matter) doesn't get the enhanced features. Guess that only comes from the manufacturers and I won't hold my breathe on that happening. Other than that I've enjoyed it.
Buy the tool for almost 100 then they want you to pay for more. Crazy. When I first bought it most of the information was included after a few updates and passed time more and more data has been put behind a paywall. It's like buying exercise equipment for a couple of grand but you still have to have a subscription to use it. People stop buying into this trash and take back ownership. If you just bought this, take it back because they will want more money.
Update - It connected and started working properly the next day for no apparent reason. Rolled back and reupdated the firmware for safe measure. Old - Used to work well, aside from occasionally needing to repair the Bluetooth connection to my phone (annoying, but I lived with it). After last app update (or firmware update), the app won't connect even though the phone shows the adapter is paired. Yes, I uninstalled/reinstalled app, reset adapter, repaired Bluetooth multiple times with no luck.
I'ts alright... My most annoying issue is when and at random times I'm using my phone or tablet, making calls, sending texts, you know, doing every day things, and I'm not even using the OBD App... a message will pop up saying "Loading Vehicle Data" and its frustrating because the app for some unknown reason I know it's open and running in the background somewhere. (Yes, I even have forceclose it) What I've been doing is installing it when needed and when done uninstalling it.
Missing the mark a bit... To be honest, for a paid app, the interface needs to be better. Only 4 PID values can be charted at a time, and there's no export utility. The font size on the performance screen is too small... Also, the process of creating and adjusting the dashboard gauges is tedious and desperately needs an "edit" mode or similar. Otherwise, the app connects reliably to the official adapter,
Always seems to update and disable the firmware when I need it and don't have access to wifi. Would rate it much higher if they had a way to do updates that didn't disable the device in the process. Updated my review because this issue still exists. Updates still render the app useless at times when I need it the most. Works great when it's working. Unfortunately it's usually not working.
Sometimes it's a pain in the butt to connect device and I always hated that you had to buy a seperate piece depending on if you had apple, PC, or android. As a developer myself, I feel that is ridiculous. All 3 devices are capable of Bluetooth communication and my PC communicates with my phone regularly over Bluetooth so why not be universal? Money? Regardless this app has been good to me over the years so 4/5.
Down voted. last update made us to manually turn on Bluetooth. No more auto enabled Bluetooth. This obd link lx Firmware should be updated to work on iPhones. & it still has not been fix. It's just programming so You guys can do it so why not? I know other obd has iOS but not Android. Need to make capable of apple iPhones and Androids phones. Not one or the other. & don't tell us to buy your other product that has only iOS. That won't help. There are lots of cheaper Obd devices do same thing.
Loved this until the most recent update 8/24. For some reason a back button and menu button were added to the top of the dashboards which serve no purpose as previously you simply hit the phone's back button and had access to the menu options. All these did was compress all the display icons and make the usable space on the dashboard smaller. At least give people the option to hide/remove them. Also miss simply being able to connect and hit the display allowing it to connect automatically.
Annoying and unnecessary registration requirement. Since a wifi OBD2 device is used as the default gateway, you can't connect to the internet to submit the registration! Regardless, there's probably a play store API for getting customer demographics and you can whitelist the supported devices ... your developer should investigate how to make this work and not hassle the end user. No other app that I've used has this "feature". It's not a great customer experience.
The app could have more tools for a "paid" app (after buying a $100 adapter, which is really expensive), so it should bring all options without paying extra for everything. In that case I should bought a 10 dollar adapter and use it with a free app. the more new the car is, less sensors is going to read. What a boomer.
Once I purchased the $15 enhanced features for my Prius, this is the ONLY non-Techstream app I have found that can pull, view, and clear ALL codes. Incredible value. Now, if only it could provide... * Ability to display a couple dozen sensor values on a single screen report * Ability to attach different ECUs to different display pages, to make it easier to look at various data sets. I can get all the data to be sure, but it is not easy.
Tool has worked well enough for 5+ years. Intermittent connection issues here and there, learned a few things. Can't seem to use mobile data while connected to it... On any device. MX Wi-Fi Version I was hoping for firmware update, but it appears to be pretty much unsupported at this point. Still works with this app, I'm just factory resetting the device nearly everytime i need to connect to it. Still useful and well supported by the application. Best money I ever spent. Thanks for the product!
Doesn't actually read the correct PID for my mass air flow sensor (with respect to fuel calculations). I get valid data from the sensor, have no means to tell the app to use that one for it. I have to use intake manifold pressure method instead, which relies on knowing the volumetric efficiency of my engine. This data is not available, and the default is clearly wrong because of a large mismatch between the app and my car's own mileage data. You also can't input formulas for dashboard items.
